Why when they show the new system working flying a plane with no hydraulics are the aircrafts flaps down, With no hydraulics there are no flaps so the testing was carried out at normal approach speeds and with a more stable aircraft, Some test eh?
Funny how the narrator calls them 'terrorists', whereas the real terrorists are the people who invaded the country, showered bombs, destroyed everything inside, killed the civilians, tortured to death the men, raped their women, dragged children to death, and what not... And all for the oil...
I was in journalism for 20 years; never got near a battle, but I am nonetheless baffled by the apparent confusion and horror of these journalists. "This is not the story they came for"??? Um, did you miss the part about this being a WAR ZONE?! Why would you assume, even for a moment, that people here are going to tamely fall in with whatever script you had?
Ever heard of the spiral approach for Baghdad International Airport landings? Why not use something similar during takeoff? Be around the airport where it's guarded while ascending. I know it would be slightly more difficult, but is there another more practical way ?
Whats up with second rocket fired by Terrorist? Right before the little break for commercials narrator says but then the Helicopter pilot discovers bla bla... And it hanst been mentioned since :p
I heard that "OH CRAP!" Apache Pilot! And that lady has to stop getting up! And who the hell would leave the landmines there? And I'm pretty sure a mine would fly in one of the engines!
@Lndmk227 Wot? Besides, it's completely false to refer ot them as "terrorists". Whether you agree with their tactics and strategy or not they are fighting an invading and occupying military force(s). The DHL is part of supply lines, imperialism and the workers are completely opportunist and reactionary in this instance.
@ButherLi55ett -- They attacked a civilian air transport. It's one thing if it had been a military cargo-lifter--that's a military target. Those people are trained and prepared to lay down their lives at any moment because it's EXPECTED of them. This was a defenseless cargo plane used in BUSINESS roles to shuttle goods. This wasn't a legitimate attack--this was a cowardly act of terrorism.
@Lndmk227 It's not 'civilian', whatever that means. Perhaps a small privately owned aircraft for leisure and travel? It was a plane owned/being used by a multinational company profiteering from war as part of supply to the forces which have killed about a million people and destroyed a country in the most barbaric way. The small number of workers are opportunistically working in this environment, for very good pay and are all foreign? 'Business roles' can you see the irony? You've no legitimacy.
@ButherLi55ett -- Are you ACTUALLY TRYING to legitimize what these people did? Are you sick? Businesses suck, sure, but they don't have any armed forces that came in and swept through the Iraqi armed forces. You wanna talk barbarism, look at what THEY did in shooting down non-military carrier plane.
I'm not going to condone America's half-cocked invasion of a sovereign nation based on a lie, but attacking non-military targets out of the blue like this is the lowest form of low.
@ButherLi55ett -- Furthermore, Iraq was ALWAYS a wreck--it's a third world country, always has been, and shows no sign of being open to changing for the better. These particular people seem to think the only motto to live by is, "DEATH TO ALL WHO DISAGREE!" and blow innocent bystanders who are simply paid to be there out of the sky, instead of doing something constructive--like build a hospital, or housing.
At least we're TRYING to help clean up the mess--if bastards like these would let us.
@ButherLi55ett -- I'll acknowledge America isn't perfect. I'll be the first to say that capitalism is utterly evil and one of the greatest contributors to corruption and greed in the world. But by and large, her citizens are good, hard-working people who go without so that the rest of the world doesn't have to. When there's a tsunami or massive quake, who is it that comes to the rescue? Not China or the EU. It's ALWAYS been America's taxpayers that pay, so the rest of the world can sleep safely.
@ButherLi55ett -- And you wanna know the secret? We don't ask anything in return! We don't get any kickbacks for being the "good guys". If anything, it catches us more flack from people like you who don't see all the good in the world we do. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but I can't control that. All I know is, is that it's OUR money that pays for world peace. And let me tell you--if we go down, then this world that has come to LEAN on our existence will crumble.
This isn't quite the first time crews have had to deal with a complete loss of hydraulic control. United Flight 232 was a DC-10 that lost its middle engine in 1989. The crew managed to take it back and although a lot of people died it wasn't a total loss and many more survived thanks to the coordination of the crew.
@mikeyoa They mention that it wasn't the first time crews had to deal with no hydraulics, watch the video before making such a rediculous comment. It is the first time though, that they got the aircraft down in one piece with no fatalities. That united DC10 crashed, and 111 people died in it.
@nightfox Oh, pardon me, I missed a little blurb in the 46 minute video. Well done, you managed to repeat essentially exactly what I said. "alot of people died..wasn't a total loss.... Yep, about sums it up. Also, this was a cargo plane. No passengers means no casualties.
@mikeyoa Congrats on pointing out that it was a cargo plane. What about the pilots? Wouldn't they be casualties had the plane crashed and they died? Regardless of cargo or passenger plane, this is the first plane in ever to land in one piece (albeit with a huge hole in the wing) with no hydraulics. The United DC-10 incident, had 111 deaths, and the plane was a burning wreck, JAL123 hit a mountain and over 500 died, between the DC 10 and the JAL 747 over 600 deaths.
@mikeyoa This DHL had no passengers true, but the plane still landed safely, and in one piece. I can tell you for sure, no pilot that survives a plane crash where any amount of passengers have died, wanted their passengers to die.
@titanic5577 It was sold to another company as "unserviceable". Then repaired but never flown again. See the aviation safety network homepage or search for the new registration info: N1452
I was station across from the airport in 2003 and 2004. I saw the DHL crash landing from my window. I was sitting at my desk working on my computer, then I saw a plane past skidding down the runway. I did not believe what Iwas seeing. I walked out side and looked across the field and notice it was a DHL plane. One of my soldiers wanted to document it because we are combat photographers. Because I did not know what cause it, I did not allow him to document it. It was like a bad dream.
It was kind of frustrating to learn that they did all those hard work, only to get told that there was an alternative way in which they didn't have to do all that... Rather, just press some buttons to command the plane...
I think this is one of my favourite episodes. That crew are simply amazing. Being able to do what no other flight crew has ever managed to do, and they were relatively inexperienced cargo pilots! Absolutely incredible.
Incredible flying! These pilots are heroes in my eyes.I work for TNT as Airport coordinator and contact every day with Belgian pilots/most of TNT fleet is Belgian/
