government incentives is what they call it. there can be many which is how and why this state of our country, tricked by the corporations. they will dump them too when they have nothing to own, they will be in the same line as they people they sold out on.
Has the consumer in America considered...oh, I don't know...cutting back somewhat? But then again, that would destroy our economy, our wasteful wasteful economy.
The US should end the barriers against Brazilian suga-cane-based ethanol, which is way more efficient, it's cheaper and does not take away food crops.
Corn is just a different form of petroleum from its use as fertilizer, pesticide, and fuel to run diesel tractors. Subsidizing is the biggest boondoggle I know of and it only delays the introduction and focus on cellulosic sources for ethanol to the detriment of the economy and ecology.
if the demand increases, the price increases. this is economics 101. your statement is equivalent to saying that because people hurt themselves falling, gravity should be done away with.
my statement means that capitalism is not fair and it creates a society where few win and most fail. it also creates a society where solidarity and compassion are hard to develop towards others without considering economic benefits or drawbacks. why would you keep falling knowing gravity exists. stop being clumsy and take your time. capitalism again. run rush and make that money.
i already agree with you, in part, about the problems with an ayn rand economy.
but what would you propose people do in this situation instead?
anyway, i don't understand what the problem is. if the price of food goes up, then that means that the poor farmers in developing countries will start making more money.
Very true. I'm not a fan of free market and capitalist THEORY, but those concerns are in a large part separate from the problems with what America calls "capitalism".
This is one of the biggest scams the farm lobby has ever pulled off. Ethanol can be made faster and cheaper from sugar cane and would not need any subsidies.
yea, sugar cane would be better... but the US doesn't grow a lot of it.
if the US is going to spend money on energy and it has a choice on whether to spend it locally or abroad, obviously it's going to support its own people!

Wow, no grain for livestock. Maybe this will encourage more grass-fed animals? It's not like these animals would depend on corn in the wild.
What about switch grass?

Hemp seed oil is more efficient as well... but has the anti-marijuana stigmatism against it

This isn't capitalism. American subsidies on corn-based ethanol is ruining the free market to determine prices.
