no, she is a hedgehog in the early games and comics, (i think) but then they changed her appearance. also, she has not got the same abilities as sonic or shadow. plus, sonic silver and shadow all have protrudent noses, whilst amy's is more snubbed like blaze the cat and doesn't have any signature spines, they are more like hair. :]

I think one of the reasons as to why Sonic doesn't care to date Amy isn't just cause Sonic loves adventure more than anything and doesn't want to be tied down, but also cause he's 15 while Amy is 12.

Amy is an idiot though, she expects that Sonic is the only, as you said, Super-speed hedgehog, and she still fell for the coloring even though she has seen sonic before this. It could have been a mistaken glance from far away but that would have been easily thrown away by the fact that she looked at him before the hug. The resemblance between the two are top notch in a silhouette from far away but this might also lead to the conclusion that many characters in the sonic universe are colorblind

Put yourselves in the place of the people in Sonic's world. There is a reason why Sonic is confused with Shadow. It's psychological; We can tell Shadow from Sonic only because we know that he's Shadow, whereas in Sonic's world where Sonic's the only known super-hedgehog, people just can't tell the difference. They just assume a certain "Super-speed hedgehog" to be Sonic regardless of his color. I bet if we didn't know the truth, we wouldn't be able to tell them apart either.
