  • I graduated from Luther High School North ('81), and yes it did suck there. Way cool to see all of these familiar landmarks.

  • Gene and Jude's but no Thirsty Whale???

Lol. Thanks for the slideshow. Haven't seen a pic of the old Montclare theater in maybe 20 years.

  • I was born & lived in Chicago for 35 years & left it in 93...Now after over 17 years I'm coming home in Augest. I loved your video but don't you have a teeny tiny picture of the old Buffalo's ice cream parlor that was there for years on Irving Park & pulaski? Can't wait to get back & hope Vince's pizza never closed!

  • Memories, thanks for sharing!

  • They tobaggans were called Jensen Slides and were crazy fun pre- lawsuit days...

I have pics of the Patio Theater marquee lit up at pre dawn circa 1992 if Mr Jackrangel is interested in adding it.

  • did the toboggan shutes have a name? and where were they located?

thanks so much for the memories...

  • Too bad Toot's is now closed D:

  • I have been to almost everyplace in your in your video. Grew up at Shabonna and Bell parks, cosuins owned the foremost and franksville. This was great.

  • I grew up on the Northwest side! The best side :) The pictures of the Blue Angel restaurant brought back a lot of memories, my grandma and I went there and it was always a treat! Thanks for the memories.

  • Awesome edit, Jack! Brings so many great memories back.

  • Remember THE PICANINNY{!} Restaurant at Madison St. near THe Marboro Theater ? How times have changed.Completely unacceptable name today. but then nobody thought anything about

  • Lockwood Castle and "The Giant Killer"...basically a 9 x 13" glass pan loaded with ice cream, sauce loads of whipped cream and nuts and bananas! As I recall, their menus said "A stomach pump is available on call at all times"... !

  • I was so happy to see Mister Steer; my gramma used to take me and my sister there for lunch when we were younger. Love this city!!

  • I lived at Belmont and Lowell. Went to Alvernia H.S. Just loved these pics! But what about Lockwood Castle and the Buffalo? Ice cream is one of the major food groups, isn't it???

  • Lived at Nottingham and Grace. Bridge school and Steinmetz. What great pictures! That neighborhood rocked!!!

  • BORN AND RAISED IN THE GREATEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!

  • Go to the Facebook groups,"I Grew up On the BEST SIDE of Chicago, The NORTHWEST Side" and "I grew up on the Best Side of Chicago, The Northwest side II". A lot of the pictures used here by Jack are in the photo groups there. Last time I counted, there were over 3,800 pictures between the two groups. M.O.M. Mayor of Montclare, Mike H.

  • Oh wow, I lived on Kostner and worked and saw movies at the Marbro theater and the Paradise theater..I wish there were videos, pics, and stuff for the West Side area.

  • Lived at Motrose and Kostner- St. Ed's. Nice shot of Gompers Park and Portage Park, where I guarded a few years. Missing Lochwood Castle, Oddo's Pizza and Skip's. Can't put everything in, I guess

  • too funny all the places i went too ...well almost all of them...i went to riis park with my family every labor day for years for a huge family picnic......blackhawk park swimming and of course riis park......yojos and so many eating places...shopped at belmont and central and 6 corners .....foreman h.s. great vids keep up the great work

  • OMG! Absolutely loved it...made my week. Sooo many wonderful memories. I couldn't help but notice so many taken around Harlem/Irving/Addison....especially the pic of Bruce + Ken's...I lived in back of Bruce's all my life...went to kindergarten at Bridge and then St. Priscilla's, then Steinmetz. Would love to find out if you were from this immediate area...so many of us are connecting on FB. Check out the FB Page..."Northwest Side, the best side of Chicago"...great videos there too.

  • Wonderful video. I especially loved seeing the old electric buses. I lived by Blackhawk Park., went to the Will, and ate at Central Gyros. I now live near the late great Elliott's. Still a Northwest Sider.

Thank you for the memories, I would love to see more, like Blackhawk Park, my old school St. Stan's, home of the best carnival and Foreman (74) High School.

  • No one I know remembers the coca-cola plant that I toured with the "Brownies" around '58. After doubting my memory, I'm happy to know after all these years, that I am not losing it, as there is someone else out there who also remembers it! Where else would I have gotten that cute little 6-pack of glass bottles filled with Coke as we left the plant??

  • Great photos from the best of times!

  • Great. I grew up on Normandy between Diversy and Grand. The platform on the end of Normandy was from the days that factory made radar gear the test platform long before it became a home improvement store. I remember drag races on the street. The only thing missing was a picture of the Coca Cola plant at Narragansett and Fullerton. One last thing; only us Chicagoans can say Northwest Side. I have been corrected Northwest is a point on the compass not a side.

  • Thanks, from a NW sider who grew up there in the 60s!

  • bridge school

  • This is GREAT..I was born and raised on the Northwest side. There was a pizza place on the corner of Kostner and Armitage named "JoJo's.Best pizza in town. The Congress theater on Milwaukee and Rockwell.I went to Lane Tech High School. The Fireside bowling alley on Fullerton Ave.So many memories.......

  • Nice job with this video.

  • SO MANY PLACES LOST PRETTY SOON IT WILL ONLY BE THE MEMORIES IN OUR HEADS,BEFORE WE GET DEMENTIA THAT IS.

  • trying to figure out some of the bus stops and parks. great job!! fun memories.

  • I lived at 2414 Normandy across the street from the "bridge that went nowhere"

Went to St. William (68) and St. Pats (72) I still live in the neighborhood. . .

  • I knew many of these places. What fun to see them.

We lived right near Neva and Diversey where the bus turned around. Used to be a pizza place there for years. The smell of that pizza on a cold winters' day was great!

  • @GlennGalen Geo's Pizza. Still there on Harlem and still the best pizza around.
