I'm surprised no one mentioned the wind, which is obviously blowing fast in the same direction as the plane. This means it needs much more runway length to stop, so the pilots needed to touch down as close as possible to the beginning of the runway !!
How can you say this is a normal landing? Are you blind? If a bus would've been on that road, there would be a major collision. Hope you're not a pilot on any of my travels.
@arayashikinoshaka the airplane isnt low if it flew higher it would overshoot the runway. You people think you know what youre talking about. And second you dont drive a plane you FLY an airplane suckers
@henkiehenken we are not professionals, we are not pilots, but we like to have fun about everything that worth it, and planes passing at 10 Mts. over a beach, damn that can be soooo fun... don't hate, you are stressed...
@FSXHowTo No. it is not! The airport is on a small island witch is partly a part of The Netherlands. And KLM (Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, Royal Dutch Airlines) is a Dutch airliner. But it are still very dangerous landings!
This was KLM Jetcode PH-BFG and he nearly took the fence with the main wheels.
There is a pic on the internet, showing this landing from the other side. At the fence are two people wich threw themselves to the ground. The wheels hover some 1 to max. 2 yard over the fence. In the Background you see the red 4x4 and following the grey car.
MUCH TO LOW, KLM Cowboy..... is this a new Van Zanten ???
I've see many videos of planes landing here but that was WAY too low. If you pause the video it only just clears the fence and the cars!!!! Almost a disaster.
imagine, at the old airport of la palma ( canarian islands) they had to block the street each time a plane was starting or landing ;) thats nothing compared with it. and btw, this is a tourism meetingpoint! people go there and wait for a 747 ...
@metalfist616DOCUs ..... this is NOT a normal landing. Compare it with all the other existing videos or go and see by your selfe as I was lucky to do. This KLM Cowboy nearly took the fence with his wheels. BTW ... Two AIR FRANCE Jets allready made that. Yeah, right... they took and dragged the fence with them.
@metalfist616DOCUs ..... you're just a fool. I was there and have seen enough Jets fly in. And this one was to low. Now go and wank if you dondt understand it at all.
heey dit staalt nergens op en is geen crash dit is op sint maarten de baan is daar van de ene naar de andere kant van het eiland dus moete ze wel zo laag hangen! this isn't a plane crash it is on snt. maarten de airport is at the beach there!
That is a low landing. for boeing 747 they have to land after the two solid bars which just comes after threshold. that was not little but too low landing.
I think this is the one where he touched the piano keys before runway threshold. No way should touch down be so close to the fence! Should of been atlease 50ft above!
@Pvjinflight it was a good landing but he was quite a bit to low not a little but quite a bit. almost looked like he was gonna hit the people but hey, thatd be their faults
@Pvjinflight No man, look at 0:20. Sint Maarten's runway's short that's true and approach has to be low to touchdown on the treshhold, but this was way too low. Very risky. Could've been an accident. Look how close the wheels are to hitting that car, what if it had been a truck?
@imanofficerable It may be camera zoom which makes it to look much lower than it really is. Anyway even normal approach to St Martin is so low that I wouldnt say this to be much lower than normal.
@Pvjinflight well, I appreciate your point but just look where the plane touched down. It never even made the piano keys; it landed way earlier than usual meaning the approach WAS in fact, dangerously low. The camera-zoom can't change where a plane touches down, can it?
You can't tell me normal approach specifies that a plane should be a little higher than that. I've seen tons of landings, including ones into St. Maarten and this is about the lowest i've seen a plane get on final approach.
@Pvjinflight not to talk about the fact that there was no landing flare. Usually aircrafts fly to the foot of the runway and maintain a flare for a few moments to decrease vertical speed on touchdown.
Did u notice how this one landed immediately? Like I said, not even making the piano keys?
Anyway, nobody got hurt but this was not standard procedure and I doubt it was on purpose.
@dunjak111 I know that. But what I'm saying is that you're not supposed to land before the threshold. The plane landed almost immediately after clearing the fence. That means that he was in fact too low otherwise he'd have had more space.
The airstrip's short; but if a 747-400 can take off from it again it definitely must be able to land normally with a lower approach. Not as comfortably as on a longer runway, but normally.
@Pvjinflight That's Princess Julianna Airport for you on a pretty windy day, so I think it's a pretty good landing considering the conditions. Maybe a touch low.
Dude that is fine there is nothing wrong with that if you see anyother aircraft landing in St Maartens it is fine

that plane touched down as soon as it passed the fence.

St.Marteen has only a short landing strip. Thats why an early touchdown is advised.
Looked like a well trimmed landing to me..
