@RestinPeaceChris me too he is a real wretler thes guys up jerry lawler in the hall of fame the only thing i ask for mysself is for why benoit dont is in the hall of fame too he deserv you dont agrre ?
@NathanArnoldCharging Well, as I said, I only added the Champions before NWA, the NWA Champions until the withdrawal from WCW, the WCW and the WWE Champions. I had to draw the line somewhere. Rick Rude held the WCW International Heavyweight Title, which only existed for a year. As for Randy Savage, I would have added him, but he died after I made this video.
However, this doesn't mean I don't respect them. I made a video about Curt and added him, Mike and Rick in my video "Remember".
That was fantastic. Wow, somebody who actually knows the history of pro wrestling prior to the WWE television era. At least the first 7 of those guys were from the days when it was 100% real and a few others though into the kayfabe era were still real wrestlers. I'll say this, every one of those guys deserved to be the World Heavyweight Champion.
Ali Baba (Harry Ekizian) was my father-in-law. He looked just as strong when he was 80 years old as he did in this photo. He never stopped exercising. I have so many wonderful memories of him.
@RestinPeaceChris I used the same picture of Chris Benoit that I did in MY tribute video entitled "Tribute to the dead WWF/WWE Wrestlers"!! But you missed one thing, in WWE on March 14, 2004, at WrestleMania XX, Benoit won the World Heavyweight Championship. So he had a two-time world title reign. But other than that good video.
This is a very nice tribute! I have studied the history of the sport, and mentioned many of these great champs in my book: "Wrestling Analyzed". It is mainly about the amateur sport, but i described how the amateur & pro versions of wrestling had common roots...Believe both Londos & Thesz won titles earlier; Lou may be the last undisputed World Champ in 1937.
I also liked the words of Mr. O 'Connor's daughter, that her Dad was a real athlete, not steroid-induced like many of recent years.
Great choice of music for the video...I've actually got the Nocturnal Rites album. I am familiar with almost all of the wrestlers here, but Dean Detton and Dave Levin are new to me.
Bronko Nagurski had to be the toughest. Played both offense and defense for a full season of pro football and wrestled a full time schedule to boot!
Thankyou for these pictures.I have a copy of Lou Theszs' book ' Hooker ', and in it he talks about a lot of these older wrestlers, and it's nice to be able to put faces to these names. And by the way, George Hackenschmidt is pretty impressive for 1895.Once again , thankyou.
@Dshed1967 Now that I know this book exists, I'll have to get it. It's great to see a video like this by someone who knows the history. Hackenschmidt, Whipper Billy Watson, Thesz, Strangler Lewis and on and on. The days when it was mostly actual wrestling.
@5297669 Yes, Kevin is the brother of Kerry von Erich. Kevin had four other brothers, Jack, David, Mike, and Chris. One of them died as a child, the other three in their twenties, and Kerry only became 33 years old. Kevin is the only surviving brother of the Von Erich family.
As one of Pat O'Connor's daughters, this was very very touching. Also, I might add - and this is only my opinion - these wrestlers were the "real ones" - no drugs, steroids, etc. Back when we were young and watched Dad wrestle, it was more athletic and not a 3 ring circus as it has become. Thank you so much for including Dad in your touching video.
You do not need to thank me, Erin. Your Dad is a part of our history, a former World Heavyweight Champion, so he had every right to be included in this video. But thanks a lot for your comment, I'm glad you liked it.
As for your opinion, I'm not old enough to remember "the old days", but I think you might have a point here. Drugs and steroids have indeed become a huge problem in wrestling.
Btw, does Pat have any grandkids, and have they shown an interest in pro wrestling? Just curious.
It is good to have these pics but it's shame Youtube wasn't invented 20 years ago because I imagine lots of clips of the early 20th century champs has now disappeared
In my opinion, Chris Benoit was a great Champion, and as far as we hear from everyone knowing him, he was also a great human for 40 years. What he did was horrible, but these were only the last 3 days of his life. And since his brain was in a very bad state, I think that he didn't know what he was doing when he did it. The only one who can judge him, because He knows what really happened, is God.
However, since you voiced your opinion in a polite way without cursing him, I won't delete it.
The band is called "Nocturnal Rites". I had not known them either, but when I stumbled across this song, I thought it would fit to a tribute about our World Champions.
As I said in the description, I only added the date of their first Title win. Otherwise, Lou Thesz' picture could not even be seen because of all the dates I would have added. ;-) And I think it would be too confusing to add all of their reigns.
