Geoff Edwards was probably the first game show host to not dress like he worked on Wall Street. His was definitely 1970s fashions - no ties and a lot of polyester in unusual patterns and colors.
I used to love Jackpot! I once had the home game to this show by Milton Bradley(now a brand of Hasbro). I no longer have it; it went to a yard sale. But there once was a Jackpot! home game. Look on eBay and you may find it there.
@Lupton2000 It does exist. You can find it in the World Series DVD/Video collection. My brother and sister in law bought it as a Christmas gift. This song is featured in the dvd/video.
this song brings great memories of baseball in the late seventies. It was always a great joy to hear the late and legendary Mel Allen's voice on Saturday mornings. I miss those days.
I second that. This is the entire soundtrack to that documentary under Joe Garagiola's narration. NBC had the world series that year so it makes sense this song was used.
One of these 15 people is holding the holding the jackpot riddle, which could win them up $50,000 in cash. So you never know when one of them will stand up and yell.... JACKPOT! And now, here's your host, Geoff Edwards!
It sounds like this music works okay on Jackpot! Very sophistaicated for a show taped in New York City & a tough riddle game. A little orchestra involved in a theme like this should make a game pretty classy & belongs on an "Upper Class" game; not sure if that fits for the 70's Jackpot! Leisure suits don't fit in with that theme. As for $50,000 a minute, I can't really imagine that theme fitting in with someone winning the $50,000. This theme needed another game show besides these. 3 stars.
This was a great gameshow with broad appeal. Brought back by Global TV in Canada, this show could do well during primetime during summer repeat season.
Sounds more like the theme show to a '70s police drama. Too bad they could not reuse the theme when "Jackpot" (w/ Geoff Edwards of course) came back on American TV in 1989.
This song should be the official "Shit's Going DOWN" song, lol!

I barely remember Jackpot, but I certainly didn't remember its theme music. So for me, this music will always be associated with TWIB.

Remember when they used to end the show with everyone yelling "JACKPOT!" I used to get in trouble for yelling along with them. I was 4 or 5 then...

The was the orignal theme of Jackpot before they use the "Shoot for the Stars" theme for the Jackpot (Mike Darrow, and the 1989 versions)
KPCarter2000 3 years ago
The theme was also used for commercials for The Treasury, JCPenney's now-defunct discount store division.

This song either conjures up the voice of Don Pardo ("Jackpot") or Mel Allen ("This Week in Baseball"). Memorable voices both.
