personally, i think gerry butler was much better as the phantom than michael crawford. he is way more intense than crawford and more menacing

Okay, time for me to revert back to nitpicking. I'd actually have preferred hearing Butler in this bit - the music isn't so demanding that his singings's unpleasant and I like his speaking voice. But it probably would have jarred with replacing his voice in other parts. And after all his looks and the nice voice of Carlotta and Raoul are still there. (Love Carlotta. That's the sort of woman who'd survive in an Opera without the backing of Giry, an aristocrat and a ghost.)
