Ferrando and Fiordiligi genuinely fall in love with each other in this version. It makes the ending even more disturbing and unsatisfying (and somehow more profound I guess).
I never get tired of listening to this duet, especially with this pair's performance. Lehtipuu and Persson are teaming up again in this summer's Salzburg Festival production of Cosi. The conductor will be Adam Fischer--Ivan Fischer's older brother. The stage director, Claus Guth ,is not known for his humor. I hope his new production of Cosi won't be as joyless as his Zaide, in which Lehtipuu sang Gormatz..
You should have them seen in Salzburg - outstanding. This is why I get to know Lehtipuu - and as a result your video. Great. Claus Guth did a very good job to get the erotics in Cosi high - exactly what Mozart meant..
On 3SAT they broadcast this performance on 15. August at 20.15. Very recommendable.
I just never get tired of Cosi Fan Tutte... Basta Cosi.
A Die-Hard fan since 1984..
Cosi Fan Tutte might be one of the darkest and most disturbing operas with a piercing and "Eyes Wide Open" cynism. Abd the beauty of this music is otherwordly...
They may say one thing, but the music offers a immaculate kalejdoscopic journey from innocence to corruption. From unity to disintegration. And deep sense of humanity and ambiguity of the "human condition" At 2:40, 4:00 & 5:45 my eyes get wet
This duet is the climax of the entire work. It reveals the "can't bear anymore tension" between the two and the tension dissolved when Fiordiligi says "Fa' di me quel che ti par" along with an exquisit sound of oboe. Ferrando might came in as a seducer, but in the larghetto session, he found himself truly in love with Fiodiligi and the music doesn't permit him to deny. This version is so much better than a lot of others for its accuracy on what the music is underlying. Long live Mozart!
This is a gorgeous Così. Well, the Rivenq´s D.Alfonso is poor, Garmendia´s Despina lacks personnality, but he "fab four" - Persson, Vondung, Pisaroni and Lehtipuu... uauu! They´re beautiful, sexy and, most of all, they sing so well!...
The DVD is worth the money ten times over. I bought it a couple of months ago and I think I've seen it about 20 times... I even ripped the audio and listen to it on my mp3 player when I'm away from my DVD player/TV :D
But the lighting is a tad irritating... it makes the focus a chore rather than what , perhaps, it should be! And while one might not have noticed at first, when you realise it, it is a nuisance!
I don't know...the lighting is pretty sexy to me! I think the other seduction duet in this production could have been a bit dimmer for that reason - but it was during the day, so yeah.
Does 'sexy' possibly mean 'confusing' or apt to be so? If so, then I quite agree. Day-time, so far as light is concerned, doesn't really make a difference if the lighting is dodgy. Yes/No?
Huh? Do you hate all the lighting in the whole production? I was just saying that the lighting is bright in Dorabella and Guglielmo's duet because it's daytime, and dim in this one because it's evening. I like the dim lighting. Agree to disagree.
What serves the story-line, the characterisation by way of music , is to be promoted: all else that detracts, whether lighting, day-time or night-time, gimmickery or whatsoever, is to be rejected. Already , there is only talk of lighting... not the art of Fra Iamplesi......
Your comment is still silly (even though true!) The singers are fantastic, and the music even better, how did you even notice the lighting? When she starts saying 'giusto ciel' it's like she has no choice but to give in. Amazing! My favorite piece of music now.

Se alguém puder explicar exatamente que significa essa magnitude
Por favor não fira os meus ouvidos, com palavras do tipo " é erotico "
É mais fácil ser analfabeto e não dizer nada!

Come on, Rivenq and Garmendia are also brilliant, as everything in this Cosi.

Persson and Lehtipuu are fantastic, as singers and as actors.
Plus: This is the best staging I have ever seen.
I think I'm going to buy the DVD.

Want to see "distracting" special effects and "gimmickery"? Watch the clip of Lehtipuu singing in Rameau's Les Paladins!

Imagine the exact same staging without the dim lighting, and then tell me my comment is silly! :P
