I want to know.. Who did Bill study to learn wet on wet? Bill may have refined some aspects of wet on wet for modern painters but he by no means invented it. Wet on wet is known as Alla Prima and has been around for centuries. Many of the great renaissance painters used a wet on wet technique. Wet on wet as we have it today was developed by many people over centuries. I don't trust any one man who claims they invented wet on wet and there are many of them. So I ask.. who did Bill study?
@TheElectricRider Bill taught himself to paint and only had a small amount of formal training. When I say that Bill invented wet on wet, he invented the wet on wet method that we know today. He was the first to use big brushes, modified palette knives, white and clear mediums and firm oil paints. He combined all of those things in to what we know as "wet on wet". He did not invent alla prima, and nobody ever claimed that he did.
Hi Bob Thanks for posting my great friend and mentor Bill Alexander.I have a lot of his shows. If you go to my tv series in here under my name you can contact me through my website. I actually have a video of Bill on the Johnny Carson show..Alexander Certified Instructor. Jack Kolber
Search for "the magic of oil painting" on google. You'll find a link to electrotherapymuseum. A small gallery is hosted there. I'd post a link, but apparently we're not allowed to do that here.
Hope everyone enjoys the video. I love watching Bill paint, even thought I've seen very few of his shows. I was too young back when his series was still on the air, and now that I'm older all I can find is a few videos and some pictures, and his books. It's too bad that more of his instructional videos are not available. He was truly a great painter.
