I've always thought the song was about Haley giving up on love since she has seen what it can do to different people when it fails and that she would make sure to herself that it would never happen to her and how that she will make sure she is happy with loneliness and how she will get through life without anybody.

But when she met the man she is singing about in the song, he has made her believe that there is a good side to love.
