PS3 cant recognize ISO files because there is no loader. If we were able to get a loader and rename the extension while the file was on the PS3 it may be possible. Other than this PS3 hacking is not going to happen. Now that we have updates that remove the option of other operating systems on the PS3. Homebrew is becoming less likley. But the wierd thing is why did Sony remove the other os option. Maybe they discovered an exploit that allowed them to ether run copied games or other image files.

You could play a game in ISO , zip , or rar on your PS3 if you had Linux installed, and an emulator installed in Linux , how ever it would be slow as crap... you would be better off installing Linux , or just the emulators on your home computer, and use X-Box controllers with the USB adapters to play the game... and you could even hook it up to your tv... how ever you can only play up to PS2 files.

I don't think he meant convert. All you have to do is change the file extension to .mpg so the PS3 THINKS it's a video file. It's still the game's disc image, but with a different file extension.

Doing what's in this video won't get you any closer to your goal anyway because you can't actually boot the game.

The only way to play most games from an external HDD would be a mod chip that not only allows you to boot and run games, but also adds support for the NTFS filesystem because FAT32 doesn't allow big enough files. Before you go looking, no such chips exist for the PS3 yet. There are a few ways to boot games from a burned disc but they don't actually run, so you can't play them.

blu-ray disks can hold vast amounts more than standard hd dvds can. Sorta the reason Sony decided to use them for their games. Plus Microsoft isn't on the board of "Trustees" for the Blu-ray association and that is another reason why the gay box doesnt use Blu-ray

I added a movie of mine on my PS3 so that I didn't have to use the disc all the time and burn out my blu ray lens. Maybe I am paranoid of the lens but it did happen to my first one. I used PS3 media server from my computer to copy or stream the movie to my ps3. It sees everything on my computer and you can watch a full length movie that is a .iso. And no it is not a downloaded movie, it is a movie from my collection. All I know is that it works and I don't need to use my dvd disc anymore!!

Although if the file is of a format the PS3 doesn't recognize (ISOs are rejected by the PS3), it will ask for an external drive to save to. (Although you could mask it so it could look like a video file...)
