Great video, Dorothee and Mark! And thank you, Myles, for sharing your experience and expertise on aquaponics. Your aquaponics farm is so impressively huge and the tilapia are amazingly healthy and big! Wow! I love that the tilapia are not hormonally manipulated! This video is so informative. As a Pioneer of One Community Ranch (an open source sustainable community), I and my group are looking for aquaponics experts to help us with our new way of life. We welcome you to our website! Thanks Myles
i am really impressed by this concept. i would immediately implement such a system but i dont have the capcities! any sugestions how to make a "small version" of this at a normal flat without access to garden spaces or other open areas?
would it be possible for the plants to survive without a considerable dose of sunlight?
I plan to deploy Aquaponics on my indoor fish farm as a means to filter out ammonia from the fish water. I deploy big fish tanks of 40 m3 water each. I need to calculate the optimum plant population as well as hydroton quantity needed to achieve perfect filtering of this water quantity. Is there a proven analogy (i.e., plant population and/or hydroton quantity to fish water quantity) that ensures a well-balanced nitrogen cycle? Your assistance would be invaluable.

@TZMSocialEvolution Omega doesn't work with aquaponics the fish waste would clog the rockwool cubes.
As far as the Agro-Industry, they pioneered hydroponics. Archer Daniels Midland was doing it already back in the 1970s when I was still in high school.
Here's what commercial hydroponics looks like today

Come on Doug if you're going to be a technical advisor for TZM the least you can do is get up to speed on EXISTING technology
@justintempler Hey Justin...who said I was the technical advisor? I may be the TZM Tech Team Lead, but I'm not GOD...with respect to all knowledge of all things. This is why you build teams. Ugh, why am I talking with you? It's pointless. All you want to do it bitch and moan and be a douche. Have fun with that.
I said you were "a technical advisor". Do you know the difference between the words "a" and "the"?
You are "the TZM Tech Team Lead" but you conveniently skip right over the technical points I raised. If it makes you feel better to call me a douche, go ahead. It doesn't bother me. I'm going to keep pointing the mistakes in your tech whether you like it or not.
AquaRanch sells to stores like Green Grocer in Chicago (on Grand Avenue), they process, package and market their own greens as well as the tilapia at their facility in Flanagan, Iliinois.
Thank you for the good work. I am going to benefit from it; hopefully for many others too :-)

This should be the farming of the future.

Now, put this setup in a 15 story building that's solar/wind powered and uses UV light for the plants. Huge yield on a small footprint.
Same idea with Omega Garden, which there is a video of also on Youtube, and is also an amazing technical approach to better, more healthy farming.
High tech advanced organic farming (hydroponic and aquaponic) is the wave of the future, but don't tell the Agro-Industry...they'll lose billions. ;)

I'm curious who they sell too? Do they package and market their own greens? Do they process the fish for the market there?
Great video!
