Good thought about associating the personality with the body from lifetime to lifetime. I've thought that the personality always continues on, in regards to reincarnating or energy recycling itself. But, one of the problems I've always had with many reincarnation case studies is when people would associate themselves with someone in the past and recall names or the place they were from and all the detail recall just seemed to accurate to seem real. I think it seems more real when there are gaps.
