  • A LOT! What ever it takes.

  • How many FPM are you divin' it in there?

  • I am retired now but was flying Piper Aztecs, Cessna 402, Beach 18 and DC-3

  • Hey Paul, what aircraft do you fly? If its the DHC6-300/400 Twin Otter or C208B Grand Caravan I will be very happy. I have flown the C208B and it was very responsive for its size isnt it?

  • 1000 ft.

  • Nice landing Paul. Do you happen to remember what was your altitude at the beginning of this video ? Thanks

  • love it....nice one Paul..Bravo

  • Sweet!!

  • Soooooooooooo Cooooooooooooooooolll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kind of surprised they don't just use float-planes here. Twin Otters and Caravans can be easily equipped and it would make the island a little more accessible.

  • dude you really messed up th approach

    1) you barely flred

    2) you almost hit the cars ala you were really too low .

    3) because of 2 you touched down too early.

    4) im going to have to report your actions.

  • @ypaul123

Sorry dude, you are wrong, the guy is great.

He did not "almost" hit the cars.

    Was a soft land.

  • rude.

  • @ypaul123 your a wanker. Armchair keyboard warrior as well as armchair pilot?

  • what plane???

  • This airport is really some thing usually 3.0º is normal down slope but this airport has 10.0º down slop it is just insane.

  • Hey Paul!!

Supposed to touch down AFTER the displaced threshold...:)

  • When was the last time you landed in St.Barths?

  • About 20 years ago I guess...How's Margaret?

  • @N2107P Great landing dude

  • @roffe135 this is NOT a runway you want to go long on. I'd much rather drop a few feet before brick one than anything past it. And he almost shacked it anyways. Nice job.

  • Beautiful landing man! Do you or anyone else watching this vid know the ICAO code of the airport? Thanks

  • I think it is TFFJ.

  • lol that's crazy

  • You are one lucky guy.

  • Not hard at all.

  • you don't happen to be the one who went off the end about 2 months ago are you?

  • NO!

  • i've only seen 2 videos now of this airport, and both landed on the displaced threashold. you're trying too hard! lol.

  • there is no threashold in St.Barts. and the runeay is pretty short too there are trees all over the place and two very nice beaches there is a big hill wih a highway/street just before the runway too so its not that easy and the landing was not hard at all 5/5!

  • What kind of plane exactly?

  • A Piper Aztec. I will be putting another one with a Cessna 402 one of these days.

  • It does get easier.

  • It is the scariest landing I ever made. After the first time, it wasn't so bad.

  • You looked way high there for a while and then put it down ASAP on the runway - nice job. I won't be landing my twin cessna there anytime soon.

  • confirming: "...which is called Belo Horizonte..."

  • But my dream is to fly in Caribbe and if I had a oportunit I wouldn´t hesitate, I would go in the same time...Do you think that they could alow me to fly there? How can I comply for a job, as co-pilot or as a pilot helper?

  • You can fly there but you must get a special check-out for that airport by a appointed instructor. I do not know how you can comply for a job. You must check out with the airlines in that area.

    Good luck

  • I heve been in St Marteen in January 2006 with my family but I heven´t been in St Barth...And It was fantastic, every day I was on the head runway of St Marteen...I am Brazilian and here I´m Commercial Pilot and I´m starting my flight instructor Trainee program, I will be a flight instructor here in my city, wich is called Belo Horizonte...

  • Good Job...What about the descent rate on final? Do the passengers support it or they complain about?

  • They love it.

  • Nothing wrong with that landing... though the video made me sweat... thanks!

  • GOOD JOB PERFECT LANDING!!!

  • It's a perfect landing bro. Don't mind what they say. I have been there and if you missed it you have to do a go around which is waist of fuel. You have got to be experienced pilot to land there 1.01 and 1.04 fun. give gas to not fall from the sky.

  • You sound like a smart ass. After owning my own airline for 35 years being the Chief polot and check airman and flying another few years before that including the Coast Guard I think would qualify me for the time. Read the regulations and find out what the max flight time for a commercial pilot can fly per month. I can assure you that I hit max many months and year totals. Anyways, who gives a shit what you think. P.S. What is wrong in using only half the runway?

  • and also you only used up about half of the runway

  • somehow I doubt you have 28,000 hours, for example, it says you are 67, if you got your license when you were 18 that means that you have been flying for the past 49 years, that means about 571.5 hours per year which equals to 1.565 hours of flying per day, each and every day.

seems a bit unlikely to me, 2,800 hours seems more likely

  • On the keys !!!

  • No, you never land in the displaced threshold, generally the concrete isn't stressed for landings.

  • Where did you ever learn that from?

  • Dude, you landed on the displaced threshold.

  • Have you landed in St.Barths? Better to be safe than sorry. No problem!!

  • Twin Otter or BN-2?

  • If you are asking about the type aircraft that the movie was made with, it is a Piper Aztec. PA23-250. I have another one with a Cessna 402 which will be coming out one of these days.

  • Oh, I thought it was either a BN-2 or a Twin Otter, thanks for clearing that up. Must be pretty scary going "downhill" like that.

    Nice vid!

  • my uncle lives there he work's at eden rock

  • Very nice place

  • im from portugal

  • im so glad they moved that road over. one time someone came in too low and punched their landing gear right through the soft top of a jeep and it killed the people in the plane and the jeep

  • That never happened. Where did you come up with that information.

  • locals. they know me well enough ive been going there over 10 years. guess they like rumors just as much as us americans. lol

  • I know of only one instant of someone hitting a car ant that was probably back in the 70's and that was Mr. DeHannen with a Cessna 310. It broke the landing gear on the plane and he went to St.Martin to make an emergency landing. No budy was injured in either the car or the aircraft. That was the only incident that I have ever heard about.

  • I will NEVER, NEVER forget this experience...ehehe...AMAZING..(now that I´m back home..;))

  • That's just like a controlled crash landing. Scary.

  • Man,very nice!!!!Fantastic!!!Congratulations!!!

  • I remember this approach and landing. It's an experience just like the rest of the island. Would go back there in a heartbeat.

  • Well it's a dangerous airport! High approach & very quickly you have to dive at the end. Lovely film anyway :-)

  • Wow what a wonderful view. The city looks very beautiful from the sky.

  • It is a lovely Island.

  • Yeah it is lovely!!! I think you like islands. You should visit splashvision . com for knowing more about islands.

  • Nice, What plane we're you in?

  • A Piper Aztec. I have landed in St. Barths with a Piper Tripacer,Cherokee140,Piper Apache,Piper Aztec, Cessna 402,Beech18trigear,Beech18Taildrager and last but not least a DC-3 which is the largest plane to land in St.Barths.

  • The threshold marks the start of the licensed runway. However, here the PA-23 is privately owned flying privately and hence it matters not one bit that the landing begins before the pretty white lines.

A good example of this system is this video youtube vid PD_i4Zmiozk where you'll notice the L-410 is off the ground before the start of the runway.. mainly because the runway is 300m long.

Mike were you the one with the Pprune thread?

  • no problemo ;) i just graduated in Aeronautical Engineering so im ''in the know'' LOL! just secured my first job with AgustaWestland :D:D

  • okok, maybe you arent supposed to, but if you notice...there is a SHIT load of other skid marks there too...so there are plenty of other qualified ppl doing it. The comment about the landing loads on the runway/threshold is BS....the runway is identical end to end. YOu can even check this video:

    htp://ww .youtube. com/watch?v=CwSjCm2JCL8&mode=related&search=

and see that the area before the threshold used to NOT EXIST and was actually part of the original runway

  • Thanks Mike. You said it all

  • Better to get down safe than not at all. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Nice video!

  • hey y u guys all arguing about it, wats the point

  • i tried doing this on FS9 but the runway is all wrong

  • what's the full nname of the airport?

  • St. Barths Airport.

  • you're not supposed to land before a displaced threshold because that part is not designed to take landing loads... if you were to do that in a bigger aircaft, you just might dig your wheels into the runway.

  • The runway is the same from end to end. You will not dig your wheels into the runway. If you do, you would not walk away from it.

  • ... which is why you don't do it. How'd you get a pilot's license, anyway? Even general aviation folk know what a displaced threshold is and why you don't land on them.

  • How many hours do you have? Have you ever landed in St. Barths? Maybe you should try it out. I think with my 28,000 hrs and being a french instructor before you were probably born, you should maybe learn more about safety.

  • decent arrival for that strip!

  • Isn't it illegal to touch down before the displaced threshold?

  • You try to land in ST. Barths. It is only a couple of feet short but gives you a bit more safety margin.

  • NO...not illegal.

  • Since when?

  • I see you just got your ATP...THEN HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY THINK LANDING BEFORE THE THRESHOLD IS LEGAL?????? MORON, turn your Ticket in and choke yourself.

  • You go and get your fucking license, Then come talk to the big boys, It is not illegal, They just want you to avoid it in case another aircraft is in position for departure, Then yes it would be illegal to crash into another aircraft, (If thats the way you want to put it)... And please, don't talk like that, No airline wants to hire some out of control, Immature person like you. Cya!

  • BS! What FAR says you can land in a displaced threshold? Your profile says you are 22. You have to be 23 to get your ATP! Are you sure you know what you are talking about Mr. ATP?

  • Well i have only 2 weeks till i turn 23 The day after, I will have my License in hand after my check ride, So I'm not really an ATP, I just like to believe so, And i am not saying that you can land on a displaced threshold, All I'm saying is that you will not be stopped, and be put in cuffs, They just expect you not to.

  • it not illegal, you just sholdnt touchdown before the threshold because its just made for taxiing and taking off

  • There are two reasons for a displaced threshold:

    1. To give an arriving aircraft clearance over an obstruction on approach (like a hill) but still provide a full length runway to departing aircraft; and

    2. because the condition of the displaced portion of the runway is no longer suitable to sustain landing operations but may still be used for taxi or roll out.

I do not know the answer for St. Barth's(perhaps the obstruction?). It is not in US jurisdiction-not sure what rules actually apply.
