Everyone, including Horowitz, plays this piece at a plodding, almost funereal tempo, dutifully following Moussorsky's "Andante" marking, but I think it sounds much, much better and conveys the impression of fast-moving clouds casting ever-changing shadows over moonlit ruins if it is played about twice as fast, albeit still very light, very soft, and very spooky. The "walking" of the andante occurs with just one step per measure, not two, at that faster pace.
I cant find the further parts, but this is great. Andsnes rules this work though, not saying that Horowitz was great - he is one of my favourites

I´VE HEARD THIS PIECE SINCE CHILHOOD, I DIDN´T KNOW THERE WAS AN
ORCHESTRAL VERSION. IN HOROWITZ HANDS, THE PIANO IS AN ORCHESTRA !!!
