The Renault engine is less reliable than the Volvo (the Focus has a Volvo engine with over 20 years of refinement) and the build quality is not as good as the Ford.
Some people have put the RS on the rolling road and got 280 bhp, maybe this one is down in power a bit. I've also seen some making 315 bhp on the rolling road.
People just love to hate Ford, I love both cars, sure anyone can see that these guys are bringing down a landmark in motoring history just to prove a point for Renault and Superchips that you should buy there car! These guys dislike the FRS and that is their choice, it would not have been very clever if they did that test, FRS won because they would just say Renault good, but not as fast as the FRS..... Superchips would be upset with that as it does not sell the product!
After that I had to check, the (corrected) £455 upgrade for the FRS gives it 347 Bhp and 496 Nm........ Who needs the rare as hens teeth RS 500 (which would be no contest). Gents lets face it, the biased clip that we have seen is flawed and without doubt biased towards Renault, otherwise they would have used a correctly tuned FRS or even considered using an FRS with the Superchips upgrade also.

@fredbikers yes your point is?????? The focus RS is making 301 and 440 Nm but is a little heavier to be fair. Look on bluefin website, exactly the same upgrade is available for the FRS, not to quote me as I'm not current but it takes it to something like 340 BHP and 460 Nm. As I said before, these guys are biased anyway
@Emrayee don't go do extreme, the RS 500 has more "in gear" acceleration than the Subaru CS400, superchips do exactly the same £425 upgrade for the focus, I'm sure driven fairly on correctly configured (standard) focus RS things would be different. I had an R26 for three years. Got it delivered with 50 miles and sent it back with 96500 miles and it was fine. There were two issues that I got fixed under warranty but apart from that it was solid as a rock. In my experience Renault are making some fast and reliable cars. I'll definitely be looking at one of these next year when I change my current car.

@Twixx32 not disputing that,y point is that he said in 3rd I'm pulling way, that would indicate that the focus is roughly in 3rd and that would explain why it is backing off. As many others have mentioned all other tuning packages aside superchips also do a £425 upgrade for the FRS giving an extra 40 BHP. If the used a full powered FRS in the first place it would have been even closer anyway. As for French cars, I have had various Fords and a mixture of tuned Peugeots and Citroens, all lovely
Did anyone else notice that this FRS is a 09 plate, this car has not had the "Hard brake pedal" remap that Ford had to do to all FRS before Dec 09. This remap was because cars were only pushing out 275 BHP instead of 301 BHP....... The fault was with the Ecu holding back on boost pressure around 3000 rpm, especially affecting power in 3rd gear. Funny enough the video says "in 3rd the MRS3 just pulls away" funny that?

The Escort RS Cosworth, Sierra RS Cosworth, RS Capri, and now this remarkable piece of engineering. In fact, Megane RS 265 version is almost 30 seconds a lap faster at Nurburgring than Focus RS. And its STILL more comfortable, nicer to drive, better equipped, more fuel economic, and it has an interior with much higher quality feel, unlike the cheap gray plastic you get in Focus.

you have to chip the rs otherwise it is not as it fast as it should be.. but nevermind. it is still stunning. I've got an mk2 rs and I know the megane is fast for its price but I just want enjoy the whole fun of a car and there the mk2 is better. still the megane is nice to suprise some opponents. but I just love more the 5V 2.5l rs engine :p

I have an RS it's awesome you always remap it I have already done so and supercharged the engine it's awesome what you can do to cars these days it has a monster energy paint kit a carbon fibre wing and a sport pack only cost about £35,000 I don't dislike Renault but ford are more popular especially the focus zetec it's everywhere

@Autoexpress My concern would be the fact that's an 09/2009 RS. Early RS's ship with a faulty ECU calibration that only develops circa 270bhp. I'd be keen to see that done with a 10/60 plate car that definitely runs the proper up to date ECU calibration.
the Focus RS has 278 bhp, its meant to be 301 but no dyno has shown it hit the 300 mark yet, the megane RS has 270 bhp. and its lighter, produces no torque steer, has CHEAPER insurance, and just plain looks sexy. The RS looks like a nutter, which if your int he mood to be ragging it is fine, but i just like the sexy look for the megane, which IS the best hot hatchback around. I live in the country in essex, and the megane would rip the shit out of the focus on these roads.
@JosephW1989 Are you sure about the Focus RS not producing 301??? I've seen some on dynos that have produced between 310 and 330 as standard. Mine produced 307 before I had the Mountune kit along with the plenum and exhaust which is now giving me 378bhp. Think you need to stop watching Evo videos because if I remember, they had a early Focus RS that didn't have the factory recall for the updated map.
@Akshole The updated map was to solve problems with Braking and power issues. Customers would get around 280bhp from a dyno and were not happy hence a updated map that made the engine produce closer to the claimed power. But like any turbo car, power will always vary on dynos.
@mattsnell89 Since 2005, Renault has adopted a program for improve the quality and reliability. Now you can see in de ADAC Pannenstatistik inform, how the new Renault models, are in the top of reliability. The results of this program called CONTRACT, are very brilliant.

I found the video very good as it showed that the remap gave a real performance boost which is the most important thing about the video. If you want a focus then you can get one but however they aren't being sold new anymore.

Golf R...I owned a M3RS and I have to admit (not on a track) that the GR is terrible with 4x4. The "worst thing" about the GR is the brake. The M3RS was just perfect. The GR gives you a kind of feeling very different.

Gents lets face it, the biased clip that we have seen is flawed and without doubt biased towards Renault, otherwise they would have used a correctly tuned FRS or even considered using an FRS with the Superchips upgrade also.

Look on bluefin website, exactly the same upgrade is available for the FRS, not to quote me as I'm not current but it takes it to something like 340 BHP and 460 Nm. I had an R26 for three years. Got it delivered with 50 miles and sent it back with 96500 miles and it was fine. There were two issues that I got fixed under warranty but apart from that it was solid as a rock. In my experience Renault are making some fast and reliable cars. I'll definitely be looking at one of these next year when I change my current car.

Fords Fiesta RS1800, Escort XR3I and current Focus RS. I love both cars but history has shown me the Ford lasts longer and hold value better. A friend had Renault Megane 230 F1, nice but fell apart and lost value too quick.

@Twixx32 not disputing that,y point is that he said in 3rd I'm pulling way, that would indicate that the focus is roughly in 3rd and that would explain why it is backing off. As many others have mentioned all other tuning packages aside superchips also do a £425 upgrade for the FRS giving an extra 40 BHP. If the used a full powered FRS in the first place it would have been even closer anyway. As for French cars, I have had various Fords and a mixture of tuned Peugeots and Citroens, all lovely

Did anyone else notice that this FRS is a 09 plate, this car has not had the "Hard brake pedal" remap that Ford had to do to all FRS before Dec 09. This remap was because cars were only pushing out 275 BHP instead of 301 BHP....... The fault was with the Ecu holding back on boost pressure around 3000 rpm, especially affecting power in 3rd gear. Funny enough the video says "in 3rd the MRS3 just pulls away" funny that?

In fact, Megane RS 265 version is almost 30 seconds a lap faster at Nurburgring than Focus RS. And its STILL more comfortable, nicer to drive, better equipped, more fuel economic, and it has an interior with much higher quality feel, unlike the cheap gray plastic you get in Focus.

@Autoexpress My concern would be the fact that's an 09/2009 RS. Early RS's ship with a faulty ECU calibration that only develops circa 270bhp. I'd be keen to see that done with a 10/60 plate car that definitely runs the proper up to date ECU calibration.

the Focus RS has 278 bhp, its meant to be 301 but no dyno has shown it hit the 300 mark yet, the megane RS has 270 bhp. and its lighter, produces no torque steer, has CHEAPER insurance, and just plain looks sexy. The RS looks like a nutter, which if your int he mood to be ragging it is fine, but i just like the sexy look for the megane, which IS the best hot hatchback around. I live in the country in essex, and the megane would rip the shit out of the focus on these roads.

Mine produced 307 before I had the Mountune kit along with the plenum and exhaust which is now giving me 378bhp. Think you need to stop watching Evo videos because if I remember, they had a early Focus RS that didn't have the factory recall for the updated map.

@Akshole The updated map was to solve problems with Braking and power issues. Customers would get around 280bhp from a dyno and were not happy hence a updated map that made the engine produce closer to the claimed power. But like any turbo car, power will always vary on dynos.

For the people saying 'tune the focus and see what happens', the stock megane is already faster around a circuit. /watch?v=voY2Eu4JzWw . This just makes it faster in a drag race and in-gear than the focus. Also it is a lot cheaper than the Focus.
I found the video very good as it showed that the remap gave a real performance boost which is the most important thing about the video. If you want a focus then you can get one but however they aren't being sold new anymore.
