I have been trying to upload a performance of Venuti from the same Tv show but I have been unable to upload any videos to youtube for a few days. For some reason when I try to upload a video the space bar showing "uploading movie" just freezes and doesn't complete uploading the video. I don't know if it is a problem with my computer, my internet service or youtube itself. Until this gets corrected I can't upload any more videos.
@jazzgirl1920s This is wonderful!!!! I have some Venuti stories of my own (handed down from my father). I hope that your uploading capabilities are now in order. i would love to see the rest of this show. And so would a lot of people, I suspect.
I bet Roy Rogers was a little bit upset with Venuti's aggitating of his horse in a most unusual way. Also glad you enjoyed this clip of Venuti on Cavett show. I found a video here of Venuti doing Sweet Georgia Brown in Italy. I enjoy all of Venuti's records. I uploaded a recording of Venuti from a radio transcription from 1934. His band is playing a Hoagy Carmichael medley. Venuti had Louie Prima in his band on those radio transcription recordings from 1934.

I was lucky my husband taped this off TV on his old beta machine. Don't know if you knew this or have heard it but a collector told me a guy named Tom Stewart recorded hundreds of hours of jazz live at clubs and off the radio on a wire recorder and his kids threw them all out after he died because they had no way to play them. The guys wire recorder had broken and he he threw it out years ago but he kept all the wire spools. He had live recordings of Louis, Duke, Basie no one else had..
I thought the story about the flour in the tuba was really funny. Also Venuti mentions Whiteman was the biggest joker in the band. Must have been interesting to hear Venuti sing when he couldn't play his violin because Paul Whiteman had placed some rosen on the strings. Venuti told other funny stories during that interview. I will have to upload some more of the interview if there is interest.
Thank you for sharing this clip!
