I agree to some extent. If we are talking about adults who are well adjusted then yes it's ridiculous to suggest they would be violent just because of TV. It's true children used to see violence at cinemas but that would be about once a week. The problem is children are seeing violence on television every day from a young age. When a child is 2 years old they don't necessarily understand that television isn't real and children learn by imitating adults.

If people are watching TV in a room try to speak with them, it's difficult to get their attention even with the volume off, but if you switch the picture off totally then it's easy. That proves that TV has some hypnotic effect on people watching. The theater or the circus doesn't have the trance-like effect of the flickering screen of the cinema or TV.

The violence in the media has always been a debate from an older generation to a younger generation. Remember those bohemian books back in the 50's and 60's? Sure that was sex, but that's even more taboo today. Speaking of which I should start reading those again

The difference in what I saw growing up, and what kids today is like night and day. We never saw blood and gore in the sixties. Kids today accept it as normal, and even imitate what they see. There are totaly desensitized to it.
