  • The 1979 version is better. I love Isaac. It's crazy how we have got more advanced yet performers seem unable to reproduce the disco sounds of the 70s??? I don't get that?

  • It's a great song! It was released in late 79 and hit #18 on the charts in early 80. I like the longer version better, but this is a very good performance though a bit on the fast side as some commentors have said. :)

  • M9awed right on Iwouldn stop for million box caus lavie sow I girl Wilin love you

  • I was in pure joy when i discovered that Chef in South Park was an real singer

South Park showed me more culture than school, this is wrong.

  • This is tight but I hate it when a band plays fast. Doesn't sound as good...

  • I sure miss Isaac. He's great!

  • thats the shizzle!!! :)

  • Just amazing!!!

He was a lord we know, and still now he is,will be forever...

  • hahahahahhahaha. the man.

  • I lyk dis man

  • 5 people didn't like Chef's cooking.

  • Boy,

you watch today's black artists, & their performances are so boring compared to something like this.

The energy level is thru the roof.

  • Chef is the man.

  • bien plus rythmé que la version studio... un vrai bijou!

  • Roy Hamilton version is much better obviously, but its still good.

  • @Moaradin Roy Hamilton version was the best. I haven't seen any film footage of that though.

  • @Moaradin But the fact that Isaac wrote the song in 1958 makes it all the more special!!

  • @recovering16: The original version was recorded in 1958 by Roy Hamilton and was a smah hit. In '58 Isaac was only 16. Hayes cover in 1980 was the second biggest selling of the song, it was written in 1958 by a group of writers: Robert Lange, Bryan Adams, Gretchen Peters & G. Greenway.

  • @leesterg Thanks for the correction. On another site, I found the composer for "Don't Let Go" was Jesse Stone, who also wrote "Flip Flop and Fly and "Shake Rattle and Roll" (two other favorites of mine, by Big Joe Turner. Well, at least now I know Isaac Hayes didn't write it.

  • someone needs to release the full 12minute version, had an awesome slap bass solo & rap

  • There isn't much that IKe did that I do not enjoy to the enth degree! His music was real..not canned! With a voice that rivalled no one else! I ran through 7 copies of his Chocolate Chip vinyl!

  • i just love live soul music

  • SONGS LIKE THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT NOT DEGRADING WOMEN OR TALKING ABOUT SALEING DOPE OR KILLING EACH OTHER!!!!!!

  • I may be a white female, but man, I am crazy about Isaac Hayes! He had a very commanding presence with both his persona and his music. Man that music still moves me today! So sad he died! RIP Ike! I love you man!!!!! I'll always love your music and will never forget you!

  • @Pilotpatty1 I don't get the "white female" remark...

  • Isaac you're gone, but you were the shit motha clucka !

  • Get the funk out! Isaac, my man!

  • its chef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can't stand when artist speed up there music...

  • live performances SHOULD be on steroids...especially for a dance band.

  • he dead :(

  • he died

  • its chef!!

  • why can't music be this fun again. are we all so uptight and repressed that we cant have fun any more????

  • unfortunately, it's easier to mass market a product to a consumer that believes true talent appears a tv show based on text messages. what else is rather pathetic, is that live instruments are being phased out video games(ie; guitar hero, rock band).

  • @AvEryBadApPLe I think you're right. I was a percussionist in school. I think we need to get the kids more involved in music again. Not this ring tone crap. I mean real music with instruments, reading and writing music.

  • it would be awesome, but it seems like this has become nothing more than a gizmo and do-dad age.

  • That's what happens when we let the government run our lives and telss us what we cab and can not do. It's time for a funk revolution!!!

  • Hell Yea!!!!!

  • I just watched Blues Brothers 2000, the other night. Unbelievable how many of the musical performers from that movie are gone. Bo Didley, Billy Preston, Isaac Hayes, Grover Washington, Lou Rawls, and James Brown immediately come to mind. RIP.

  • This is a perfect example of this man's talent. Unlike the artists of today, Haynes could sing. He could REALLY sing. He wrote. He captured us with his presence. He was an amazing conductor. He was an all-around artist and actor. His voice was powerful and easily recognizable. I am hurt as if I knew him. This is a great lose, but heaven's gain. Blessings to his family, friends, and fans. I have said a prayer for you. Love.

  • Rest in peace, Isaac. We will miss you.

  • this is so very soulful! Hail Issac!

  • Wow! So gooooooooood and deeeeeeeeeeep!
