I'll never forget the first time I heard the Cocteau Twins. I was defrosting a butterball turkey and this song kicked-in on the radio. Suddenly I was traveling at the speed of sound towards a golf course. I landed with the raw turkey and set it free by a pond. As soon as it swam away I took off like a rocket and woke up in a Hospital.
@brsmith0898: God bless ya. Its good to hear someone of your generation can enjoy them. The lyrics are available online if you Google them. her unique style made me curious of what she was saying.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I'm 85 years old, and from the first time I heard Cocteau Twins, I knew they were speaking in tongues, and speaking to me personally. If you play their songs backwards, they're giving me instructions on how to fly, and when the end of the world is, and the best day of the week to buy chicken from my local grocer. Thank you Cocteau Twins for this useful information.
@brsmith0898 my friend although liz fraser did experiment with her own language for a while i really dont think that she was being as insightful as to inform yourself ofthe best day in which to buy chicken, if u truly r 85 and are hearing things like this i do think its time you spoke to the doctor regarding schizophrenia or such like! @greenerbug whats her face did that for that song in GLADIATOR, her own language for speaking to god: Lisa Gerrard, "Now We Are Free" is the song...
i've noticed that liz is completely uncoverable, she can't even do her best studio productions live sometimes (most times? depends on the song).. in fact some of her live stuff is just as whimsical and almost never as good as the studio release
that really can be the best art/music sometimes, experimental until u "get it right"...

this video was directed by paul Donelan ... and the animation FX done at Red post production London. I recal a meeting in which both the singer and guitarist were present. He was very protective of her and even in the quite confines of a creative meeting she was very, very shy. This might go someway into explaining why they appeared in public so little and perhaps why their music and partnership endured so long. Great track ... great fun to work on.
The Cocteau Twins where the most incredible band that has influenced so meany of the alternative & ambient music that we hear today . I was very lucky to see them live at the Cameo Theater on Miami Beach back in 94 ! What a concert that was !
@LazaroAmaralArt So true! Practically *all* of the kind of "designer dream pop" that is currently in vogue in alternative music now (just see the Pitchfork festival 2011 line up) owe HUGE debt to Cocteau Twins, not that any of those bands acknowledge it. + They have nowhere near the talent/spirituality/edge that Cocteaus had. Cheers, 1ofdiamonds

Oooohhh my ears aand whiskers...So right you all are...Voice of an angel, lungs like honey dribbled on filligree gold....If only more of the 'younger generation' could be exposed to the genius that is the CT...Amen. Let the revival commence.
@DPwide I would be one of those a part of the younger generation. I was born in 1990. I got into the Cocteau Twins about 4 years ago, have every album. I'm absolutely in love with them. It's soul music.
Ah the CT memories....I was unfortunate that socially retarded trolls were squatting in the flat under me playing crap rave music high volume all night for 5 nights. No amount of police calls or threats would stop the noise for more than 5 minutes....the cure is in great music. I stuck my speakers on the floor, cranked the volume, put this track on constant repeat then left for 4 days. Got back to my pad, the trolls had gone. This is the power of heavenly music over troll music!!
@JeremyNichols777 Yeah I regretted it afterwards....they just didn't deserve to listen to this quality track for 4 days, in hindsight i should have played the birdie song on repeat instead!!
@grummreaper you remind me of some convenience store hang outs, the owner got tired of these SILENT BOB AND JAY types and pumped classical music into the parking lot and around the building... THEY LEFT... the vibes didn't reflect their self-absorbed sullen selves? the atmosphere became too enlightened and positive?
- hey at least they heard some nice stuff for days, could have been SLAYER!
@grum jolly good then... i lived in the STUDENT GHETTO across from a university for over 8 years, IMAGINE THAT! - so i had probs for sure, now have a chorus of 10 or so dogs around my property
americans are indulgent wasteful fools in love with their perceived privileges and excess - leaf blowers, loud motorcycles, grills (smell this time), loud trucks, dogs, cats (the fights are loud and wake you up), etc... i have to deal with this all in TOO crowded a part of the city... less music though
thanks to these video postings i have fallen in love with this band all over again 20-odd years later! just awesome. lorelei and bluebeard just superb singing. we should have 2 charts these days, one for the mindless dross that daytime radio plays and a REAL chart with REAL music. superb.
the more i listen to them the more the mystery deepens,i want to know every thin about this band, their origins ,musical influences, and nationality. what melodic influence caused them to create this sound, are they playing in open guitar model tuneings like many celtic guitarist do or what? what language is liz singing in? scotts gaelic or what? just facinating beyond belief.
@snapperjohn1000 Welcome to the club! You will find, as many of us, it will be bittersweet; you'll discover their sounds and stories and will be forever sorry that they are no together anymore. It's like beeing in love for the first time, you will feel miserable but lucky! :)
this woman has transcended far above the natural state ,and restraints of the human voice,as if she has attained some blissfull state of musical nervana . we all wish we to be in that magical place
Sometimes, I can't help but think that the human race is just not *worthy* of being graced with Elizabeth Fraser's talent.
For those 17 dimwits out there with a dislike...please introduce me to your parents. I'd like to know what in hell they were thinking when you were conceived.
Who are the 17 morons that disliked this? No matter how good something is, there will always be some who are completely lacking in taste. This stuff is genius.
@rsf1017 I wonder if maybe it's because they don't want it to influence youtube's already weird recommendations. I dunno if that would work but if you think something's alright but it's not to your taste I guess it makes sense, 20 dislikes to 1,112 likes don't mean much
She could always murmur, and she would still be gorgeous...
Such a shame they splitted, I still hope they get back someday, or at least she starts doing a proper work, the same way she did with Massive Attack, and Robin still does instrumentally solo!
Lord praise the Cocteau Twins for their timeless eternal work, since there is nothing like them since then even until these days....!
Nothing better than a lazy Sunday just letting Liz pelt out song after song on a neverending loop while you catch up on work or reading. It just feels good to spend a few hours listening to the Cocteau Twins and letting the music just play it's magic on you. Love this!
@redflare221 You're forgetting that Joe Public on hearing Carolyn's fingers would immediately feel personally affronted by the indecipherable lyrics! Bluebeard is one of relatively few Cocteau's songs with clearly intelligible vocals.
Saw her live with cocteau twins many years ago...the emotions that her voice gave me are not possible to describe. I was constantly close to tears because of her divine voice, which is even better live.
Ahh I remember going to the 4 Calendar Cafe concert--my very first concern and it was prom night and I didn't care a bit about prom and I will forever be glad that I was in the right spot that night. How I still just love this band but mostly Liz!
@centuryflower prom or cocteaus? no comparison there...proms are for those "winners" in high school who became the most popular, sporty, good looking and maintained the highest level of self-worth... losers, burn outs, dummies and ugly not wanted... punkers can stay home too... no goth please... and of course you are supposed to have a date... so if a loner, never mind as well...
Ela na pewno pójdzie do nieba za takie piękne śpiewanie. Choć, gdyby z jakichś powodów poszła jednak do piekła, to mógłbym jej słuchać wieki całe. Tylko czy to byłoby jeszcze piekło?
The best band to come out of the oil refining town of Grangemouth? Perhaps, however what cannot be denied is the influence Guthrie and Fraser had on the Indie scene during the 80's and early 90's.
I have music in my head constantly,I think Liz Fraser does also, and fortunately for the world, she knows how to let it out and exspress it in such a beautiful moving manner. I think those of us who are touched by this music, feel Cocteau Twins realize and make audible what we may feel, but don't have the ability to create or exspress ourselves. I speak only for myself, but I find their music beautiful and profound.I am falling hopelessly in love with Liz all over again.
Oh Lord, I Love Cocteau Twins! Elizabeth!!!!!!!! Proof of God? --Right Here -E. Frazier. what is more beautiful, melodious, soothing, cuddly, mysterious, friendly-sounding, awe-inspiring (esp. vocal-ability-wise) than this??? -Sincerely, Flabbergasted Fan Al XXXX OOOO
I saw them play at the Warfield in San Francisco while touring for this album. They played an unforgettable performance of "Summerhead" before exiting and brought the house down.
Look I really like, nay LOVE Liz and the Cocteau Ttwins, but I cant help thinking she looksuncomfortably like Ellen Degeneres in this clip, what with the collared shirt and daggy dance moves...
snowing at night, in the Czech Republik in the 90's... you had to be there to feel this as i did.

I remember thinking life just can't get any better.
Then at that very moment my door was kicked in and I was robbed at gunpoint by three dudes in Country Bear outfits.
so I really overall had a bad experience and have a bit of PTSD now everytime I hear it.

What else could we say about the "voice of God"?
She could always murmur, and she would still be gorgeous...
Such a shame they splitted, I still hope they get back someday, or at least she starts doing a proper work, the same way she did with Massive Attack, and Robin still does instrumentally solo!
Lord praise the Cocteau Twins for their timeless eternal work, since there is nothing like them since then even until these days....!

I love the Cocteau Twins more than almost anything in life. And yet... that hairstyle is a crime against humanity!

yes. why lyrics when the vast majority is contrived, commercial and ridiculous? fuck words in music if one can't write to save their lives!

Nothing better than a lazy Sunday just letting Liz pelt out song after song on a neverending loop while you catch up on work or reading. It just feels good to spend a few hours listening to the Cocteau Twins and letting the music just play it's magic on you. Love this!
MiaUntamed 10 months ago
Still as magical as the first time I heard it.
dma999999 10 months ago
Possibly/probably the Cocteau's most accessible song ever and none the less wondrous for it.

@MisAnnThorpe
I would say Carolyn's Fingers is more accessible to the general public.
redflare221 10 months ago

How I still just love this band but mostly Liz!
centuryflower 11 months ago
@centuryflower ilived in israel that time and i remember it well
auto2905 11 months ago

This is a top song in any language!
biggayone 1 year ago 3
@biggayone You should have a listen to former Grangemouth band Lowlife too, ex-Cocteau on bass......utterly amazing tunes......

Look I really like, nay LOVE Liz and the Cocteau Ttwins, but I cant help thinking she looksuncomfortably like Ellen Degeneres in this clip, what with the collared shirt and daggy dance moves...
And yes Liz.....I am the right man for you!!!
