  • Any chance you know of any free instructional videos for this song? I'm learning from the tabs in earl's book. A video to play along with would be very helpful.

  • Great playing Sean. Your style is not only clean, but light and effortless. The dynamics are great too. Thanks for bringing the tune to life for us all. I pulled out the Scruggs book right away.

Haven't bought my new banjo yet. Went back and read my BHO thread and noticed you had commented. Funny since I love the inlay on yours .

Thanks again for posting great vids.

  • i love this tune,i'm gonna learn this one,chum!

  • Well played!

I'm about to start learning this tune from my banjo learning book :P

One of the things I like about the banjo is that when playing a certain tune slower it sounds like a completely different and awesome tune :D

  • Say.... That inlay looks familiar, do you by chance play a Washburn B-16?

    Nice playing, well done.

  • @downhill5150

No this banjo was built by Frank Neat of Russell Springs, KY

The inlay is Gibson's classic prewar "Flying Eagle" pattern.

  • Hi, ludwigtrap!

I stumbled right into your trap and now I am stuck with your fine way of playing.

But as I am a bodhran player, I try to join in but am always stopped after only one minute. Could you post some longer vids, just to enjoy?

    Thanks

  • @eva1965 A bodhran player! Do you play Celtic music?

  • Great stuff.

  • Typical of you tube, I stumbled on this several links into looking for something else.

Very close to the way Earl played it and the inclusion of the backup, which very nicely approximates Earl on "Foggy Mountailn Banjo" is a big plus.

I'm sending my students to this link, There are some weak 'lessons' on this tune out there. This isn't one of them! Very good job

  • Man that neat banjer is kickin' man...I think I want one lol. That's my favorite inlay pattern

  • That's a mighty fine sounding banjer ya got there! Love that Flying Eagle inlay.

  • @banjovi1953 Banjovi this is where I learned the up the neck part of this song :)

  • thats great! is this the same tab as whats in his book... Earl scruggs and the five string banjo isbn... 0634060422?

  • The lead tab is very similar to the Earl book. The main difference between that and my tab is the backup is included in mine.

  • thats fantastic........

  • Dug out the Scrugss book. Thanks for the inspiration. One picture is worth a thousand tabs!

  • great vid . Any chance of showing us how to do the Flint Hill Special "C" lick , you know the one where you alternate the middle finger between the 3rd. and 4th. string while in the "c" chord position ??

  • Wow, thanks for posting this. I'm to the stage of learning some good backup licks and the phrasings you put in really helped me pick up some ideas and how to move around on them. Appreciate it!

  • The world of backup banjo is wide open so I'm glad to hear these few licks helped spark some ideas.

  • great videos everytime! It really gives you an understanding of the correct phrasing when its slowed down. Im using the Scruggs book to play from the music but music doesn't really give a good indication of general phrasing, accents etc. THANKYOU!

  • love it. its one of my favorite songs. i have an acoustic but i hope to get a banjo soon.

  • Smoove! Just like Earl fur sure! Great sounding banjo too!

  • I listen to this song almost every day on the way to and from school. And you do it just like it :D, and btw, FIRST!!! llol
