well my friend, Oblivion was waaaaay ahead of its time graphically. So much so that Fallout 3 used and enhanced version of this engine. This engine still gives modern day PC's a run for their money at full graphics settings and AA applied with HDR! I love this game and it will always have a place on my Hard Drive. First: You dont need to "walk everywhere", use Fast Travel.

Second: If you turn the game to Hard, you will find more leveled enemies, you can also check Planet Elder Scrolls, and look for OOO a mod that adds a lot of nice stuff to the game.

And dont complain if you dont even know that you can change the dificulty of the game.

Why would u want to fast travel all the time when walking you see NPC's for quests, you gain loot from raiders, you discover sites to explore that would have otherwise gone unnoticed or taking you forever to find a quest that brings you to that cave or somewhere near it. Plus you gain EXP from walking and not fast traveling all the time. Those with short attention spans seem to think fast travel is the only way, when walking and exploring the country side is the better way.

Theres a time for fast Travel and theres a time to Explore, when is like 2 am and you are super boring, that is one of the best moments to explore the world but if you are in the middle of a nice quest you dont want to kill wolfs/ogres every 10 or 5 minutes in the road, you ahve to repair you armor all the time, waste arrows ...nah}

i can see if your a leveled player with all the powerful weapons and armor and loot, along with all the dungeons and caves to be discovered, then ya fast travel- but if your just starting a new character with low level abilities and items, then exploration is a great way to level up your combat skills quicker while at the same time charting your map with significant locales. The game was designed that way, your not "wasting" arrows if your using them on enemies but gaining exp.

What the guy above me said: cool your components. Heat kills performance rapidly.

At those specs, you have to be able to play at the highest settings. I have an e6400 and 8800 GTS G80, subpar parts compared to you, and I run it at these settings.

If it's not the cooling, then I suggest you also check your power requirements.

You know what I hate about Oblivion? The leveling system, if you don't meticulously keep track of your leveling stats you get WEAKER than your enemies as you progress levels. Very stupid design. Hopefully the next in the Elder Scrolls series will bring more of the soul of Morrowind and merge it with the graphics of Oblivion. Also, at least add an option to REMOVE the voice acting.

RAM might be an issue. I know OB specs says you only need like 512 RAM or something, but try to get another GB of ram. RAM helps with everything really, so the more you have it, the better - although having insane amounts wont benefit you as much as youd think :P

But anyway, just get to 2 GB RAM. You should notice an increase in performance.

I did play it maxed out with 1GB RAM and the framerate was fine, 2GB wont really improve your framerate THIS MUCH, as he says he cant even play it on low. With 2GB of RAM you will just not get any slow downs. Obviously for you its the videocard. The 2600 isnt really that good but it should handle it on low pretty nice. Try a driver update.

you can go only as far as far how much RAM you got. with 1GB of RAM you can run this game with a good G-card 1000% flawless but more RAM wont help unless you have more games running at the same time

Chances are it's your CPU being the bottleneck or your PSU rating doesn't meet the requirements of your HD2600pro. What's your PSU rating btw? It should be at least 300W. Ignore all the RAM comments, 1GB RAM is already enough to run this game properly unless you insist on having background programs running as well.

Two things I cant bear in Oblivoon although its my favourite game -

-The Jumping. It looks so tacky and cheap... and when your in the air you literally look like a balerina.
