Hi looking for a new NAS. Today my Netgear ReadyNAS duo 2TB NAS device seems pretty broken and I can't access the files any longer. Have been getting errors since day one as well. Anyhow, I wanna know if this one can carry 3.5" HDDs and if there's a limit on how much capacity it goes up to. Is it also easy to setup and use for the average user? I'm just gonna use it for movies and TV shows for my Boxee Box. Is it okay to let it be turn on 24/7 or does it needs a rest every now and then?
If you just going to use it ONLY for movies/tv shows then this is one is to much for your needs. Just get a network HDD or something. If you want to do more then this is a nice contender, but do you really need 4 HDD drive bays? Look at the qnap with 2 drive bays. You also have an compare sheet on their own website (qnap.com) of their own products of course.
@N1mro8 Well, I like to have my movies in quite a big collection instead of just downloading it and then watch and after that delete it. But it's already too late anyway, because I made an order yesterday that includes Synology DS1511+ with one WD Caviar Green 3TB HDD and one WD My Book Live 3TB. I figured that it would be nice to have a backup and I don't want to mess around with RAID. With a backup on an external HDD I can take all those movies and TV Shows with wherever I go.
@N1mro8 And the Synology DS1511+ seems really easy to use and their customer support is really great and their DiskStation Manager looks really good as well. It's a bit expensive but I think it'll be worth it.
I have tried with torrents nzb emule , but it makes the 419 very slow . Even with twonky media . Just use the Qnap only for data storage . Also 1 of my music directory's has over 1 TB of mp3 files . When i open this music map my qnap sounds like a disco , it take's over 7 second's to show to contents of it . If you have a lot of files than be aware of the loading time .

@baleric00 419P+ is a new model and does NOT have lockable drive bays. This one is older 419P which has lockable bays.

@itaktimi
You now have the 419PII, is the newer model. But I don't think it's worth the money over an 419P+.

Hi... How is the behavior of this NAS with torrent (writing 3.2mb/s, reading 500kbps) and streaming a 1080p in the same time ?

Thanks for the vid! Just a question as I'm planning on buying this one. Have you tried downloading from NewsGroups? eg nzb files?

@prickskytte thanks for the info.

@prickskytte Having lots of files (thousands) in one directory is always slow. Thats not specific for this product.
