  • Thanks to Emily Deschanel, I watched this documentary. Very thorough and informative. I've already cut out most animal products from my diet (apart from fish), and am considering a vegetarian (or even vegan) diet when I'm old enough. I think it's horrible what is happening to the environment, as well as the impact high levels of meat consumption on our own health. I hardly knew about the process of producing meat before watching this documentary. Thanks for the upload @heylover3 :)

  • @Chookie369 Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you found benefit from the film :) Feel free to ask any questions you may have about being vegetarian. Its actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

  • @Chookie369 I agree, I've read she watched this become and veg. and after a vegan. I recently become a veg. and I mean RECENT lol... After watching this video I can never look at a piece of meat the same way ever! I like milk though I'll cut that out too but just not yet. I too would like to thank, heylover for uploading this. And Emily Deschanel for bring forward this message I don't think I'd ever watch this if not for reading about it from her. ;)

  • @asomra A good way to cut Cow milk is to try Almond Milk (vanilla flavor) available at most grocery stores. You get the necessary fat without the hormones, environmental impact and no cholesterol.

  • @Chookie369 I watched it because of Emily too! I'm already vegetarian but I was considering going vegan when i'm older, but from watching this i've decided to go for it now. I still can't believe it when people say "getting milk and eggs from animals doesn't harm them at all!".. it's crazy. and thank you @heylover3 for uploading this! I was desperate to watch it and couldn't find it anywhere else! :D

  • I recently cut waaaay down on my meat consumption and I was suprised at how easy it was. I feel much better for it. Whenever I do eat meat now, I can't stop farting.

  • I don't care about healing myself, in honesty i'd like to die early, but I want the best for the future, and i'd like to heal the world. I wish things could change.

  • I loved the journalist that revealed the snake oil this idiot was selling along with his conjectured philosophy. I rather eat steak than to look like this guy anyday.

  • The populace with the longest lifespan live on the island of Okinawa, Japan. Their diet includes fish, chicken and many fruits and vegetables. Also, very important to measure the variable of genetics when it comes to health and longevity. It is not rocket science to know that eating fast food and processed food reduces life span. However, the Ice Cream Man does not inform you how to properly measure ANY theory for constant and erroneous variables.

  • One thing that has not changed is that there is always somebody trying to sell some "snake oil" idea after they had some transcendental revelation of some sort. Why is it that in India the diet of the people there has been vegetarian for centuries, yet their lifespan is less than what it is in North America?? Oh yes, that is right! Ice cream man has not informed you about measuring the numerous variables that are involved--especially erronesous variables!

  • Became vegetarian in 97 would never go back....funny how the first few days your craving/hunger pains for meat are so psychologically intense! Now I would puke if I ate meat, I don't even like to look at it.....The book is much better than this video....I wonder now exactly how much it matters anymore........first the dead zone in the gulf from fertilizer runoff, now the pools of oil under the gulf--I wonder how much even recycling mattters anymore. It's depressing.

  • Must be nice to inherit a huge trust fund like John Robbins. I would be in great health, mind and body too!! This guy can afford to spend his life being altruistic and dream of philosophies. Get a real job!!!!

  • @chrisperdicaro apparently you dont know much about john robbins, or even watched the first part of the program, he denied the inheritance made his own way and lived on $600 a year for over 7 years.... get a brain, use your time in the internet for something useful.. or how about read a book, that's always a good idea.

  • @cjmattinson Typical of so many hapless sheep like you willing to believe myth, legends and sensational stories over objective science. And yes, I do read a plethora of books above the folklore you are familiar with.

  • @chrisperdicaro Robbins didn't inherit anything. If you are piss poor that is your own doing.

  • @Fodderingham Please, I beg you, do not make it that easy for me to make you look like a hapless fool. Speak for yourself. Please make a decent attempt to debunk my claims. If you are in abject poverty, it is most likely you are reading the wrong books.

  • @Fodderingham That's funny. I read differently in a very trusted newspaper article. On another note, I am not piss poor. I do not live in America. I think that speaks volumes for the income that I have compared to Fodderingham's claim. If anything, you are "piss poor".

  • Eat less meat? Tried that. Ate a bit of fish with a ton of beans, whole grains, and veggies. Didn't have one menstrual period on that diet. My cycle resumed after I started pigging out on beef and butter with those plant foods.

Going vegan for our grand-children? Sorry. For children, one must be in good reproductive health.

Refined foods, including sugar and white flour, are our true food enemies.

  • Oh yeah, processed vegetable oils aren't our friends either.

  • @MissJemimaPuddleduck Wow! This is probably the most objective response I have read about this video. You are very correct! Processing ANY type of meat or vegetable is bad for the liver and the entirety of the digestive system. My advice to the man who has the "scoop" on all knowlede in the video is to consult with physicians who did not want a royalty associating themselves with the ice cream man turn celery stick.

  • If you find pain here, it would seem like an intelligent person would leave such a place. I guess that says a lot about you.

By all means, if you know everything and find this information invalid, then go shovel some fat, grease, and protein down your throat, just do it elsewhere. I'm sure your words of wisdom wont be missed by any of the viewers of my videos.

  • ...WHAT viewers, holy man?

    hey....pass that bacon sandwich.

  • This 8-part series was terrific. Thank you! I read Diet for a New America years ago; it inspired me to stop eating animal products. The research and information presented here is so complete there's really no further reason to think our modern meat habits benefit our health, or our country, or the world. I'm surprised at the negative feedback. The truth may seem threatening, but there's a delicious world of hearty casseroles, curries & stews that awaits those who are ready to take that step.

  • @s6u6r6f6

Of course we can change the environment by our actions that's nature, nor arrogance. Everything we do affects the environment, whether we intend it or not. I'm wondering what you are needing that causes your comment to be filled with so much pain.

  • While this is an excellent documentary it is somewhat dated and goes a little far for the shock value of making points.

What is happening in poorer countries and will eventually reach America is that raising animals for meat (especially beef) is just too costly in several areas and, out of necessity, a vegetarian diet will need to be adopted on a vast scale.

  • lets hope so

  • This documentary has certainly been eye-opening for me, and has made me realize that I should cut down on my meat intake. However, I don't think the overall point of this documentary was to show that becoming vegan is necessarily the ONLY option (which I think many people tend to believe after seeing this.) I think the video was only trying to show that simply cutting down on meat intake can help you become a healthier individual.

  • Becoming a vegan is not necessary in order to make a difference. But hopefully many people will WANT to become a vegan after watching this and reading the book. As much as I used to love, and I mean LOVE, the taste of meat (possible more than your average cowboy or trucker), it's just not worth it and I feel SO much better without it. I think everyone should at least try to go vegan for 30 days and see what happens. The first 30 days are the hardest but after a while, you don't want it anymore.

  • This inspire me to *slightly* cut back on diary and meat. But I must say, this video has many biases.

  • huh?

  • This documentary had a slight impact on my life, but I think it has much bias.

  • What bias?

  • Like, they only present one side of it, and some of the information is one sided.

For example, I thought the 8 pounds of grain for 1 pound of meat was bad. They forget you also get milk from cows, and obviously meat has more protein too.

Just as a side note, my biology teacher who agrees with this video even stated it has some bias in it. He agrees with them, but thinks they went a little far.

  • Well, I think their main point is the health concerns of eating meat and dairy, though I think the environmental concerns are very just as well.

I guess I still don't understand where the bias is. Maybe I am overlooking something?

  • I am just using that example. It's been over a year since I've seen this doc :P

That handy-dandy meat machine showed it takes 8 pounds of grain (food) to get 1 pound of meat. It fails to acknowledge meat has more protein and it tastes better.

  • Yes, it does taste better to those of us who cannot give up meat entirely. (I admit it, I'm weak.) Since watching this series, I have cut way back on meat and I'm trying to cut back on dairy, but I love it all! I do, however, forward these videos to friends and family and try to encourage all to cut back, at least. But I think the main thrust of this story is directed towards those meat lovers like my ex who would eat pork, beef and eggs all meals and double portions at that!

  • Oh and BTW... now that I know what meat does to our insides....NO WONDER the old fart could clear out the ENTIRE BUILDING after he visited the toilet-at work AND at home!!! - and the toilet itself would need an extra scrubbing! Blech!

  • :P I slightly cut back for a while, but meh, if this vid says I need to stop completely, I am not following its message :P once in a while ill choose something else over meat / produce, but that's about as far as I'll go.

  • rats milk has 45% protein, human milk 8% protein would you drink rats milk? if its so good why dont we drink that? If you think humans could never survive without a cow always nearby thats complete rubbish and unplausible. why didnt we just evolve into cows then?

  • ah that was 12 pounds. meat has too much protein which is not needed and the body stores it as fat. it may taste better in your opinion but does that justify the 5000 gallons of water used for you precious one pound of beef (not to mention the animal auschwitzs all over the world)? hmm which would you rather 5000 gallons of water or one hamburger patty? what would you take on a desert island?

  • People did eat some meat throughout history but normally not alot of it. Now because of refrigeration technology we are able to transport meat like never before. If you looked at the diet of any historical people compared to that of the modern american the amount of meat consumption has increased drastically along with health problems associated with that especially heart disease obesity and some cancers.

  • Regular people are getting diseases historically associated with kings and queens because in the past they were the only ones who could afford meat on a regular basis. By the way meat was never a staple of any ancient community as it has become of the modern western culture

  • Hmm... 20 gallons for one pound of vegetables? I'm no farmer or agriculturist, but you sure it's that high?

If it is that high, your 5,000 theory sounds a bit more realistic. But 5,000 per pound? Sound's like it'd be more like 5,000 per cow, but I'm not sure how much meat one cow would produce.

  • watch it again carefully. countries which eat less meat and dairy get less osteoperosis, cancer and heart disease. Humans are the only animals that drink milk as adults and its from another species. It is designed to turn baby calves into big heffers in only a few years. Think about what is can do to humans.

  • If you dont think one pound of beef requires 5000 gallons of water to produce a more conservative estimate is 2500 gallons while most vegetables require only twenty gallons to produce a pound of them.If you cant believe this think about your own bias rather than the video. Even if you dont believe it wouldnt it make more sense to feed the people directly with water and grain rather than using cows as a middle man? That way we can make much better use of our resources and land.

  • If you dont believe one pound of meat takes 5000 gallons of water to produce think about the large amounts of pasture that must be irrigated for the cows to graze on when they are young and the grain which they are subsequently fed in feedlots to fatten them up. Most grain in the us is used for animal feed rather than humans. That grain and pasture needs water. Where did it come from?

  • Thanks for posting this. My parents are starting to eat less meat and dairy now, and my dad only ever buys eggs from a local farmer whose chickens live in his yard (they live in Amish country...farms really are quaint like those old children books). Dad called the local cheese factory to ask about the rennet they use and now has decided to try and purchase cheese made with microbial rennet. :) I'm so very proud of mis padres.

I'm so very proud to be a vegetarian. :)

  • Thankyou for uploading this.

  • What a weird thing to say.

You know meat must rot in your colon before it can be digested. Now that stinks!

  • Pull your head out of your ass and smell the roses buddy. Meat and Fish STINK!

  • Haha...good one cycimian. Very funny. MEAT IS MURDER.

  • Fuck You! i hope you burn in hell! vegans rule!

  • i completely agree, mu brother; we live in a world where either we live better or we die, die, die, cos we're killing the planet - the planet is a leaving, breathing entity, and we're killing it.!

  • yeah driving SUV's and putting more pollution in out air is in fact killing our planet.
