It wasn't a bad experience, but when you go around the city you'll see places that don't seem to have changed much at all since the seventies; those areas gave me a creepy feeling and I couldn't help it.
Charlotte, a city that Richmond is at times compared to, looks much more modern and up-to-date.
i think at :59 is "gracie". i lived next door to her on north harrison in 74-75. she was the sweetest little woman and she knew everyone. she had to be near 90. i need to watch the rest. thanks for posting.....
hey woodewood--- thats a pretty incredible detail -- i spotted her in the film and thought she looked like a charming little old lady taking her afternoon stroll.. nice that you remembered her.. thanks for the comment! im so glad people are adding details like that.. i guess this is pretty historic footage at this point... : )
Thank You. I was there 1976 - 1980. Saw the beginning of the change - from a pride in the funkiness of VCU to a more mainstream college experience. Pity!
hey henhousered.. thanks for the comments.. you are pretty much right on with all of these observations i think... and it's cool that you were able to mark the spots here in youtube... i figured this was an excellent film to share with current richmonders to give people a sense of how much things have changed... and what has remained as well... take care and thanks for checking out the video
I was recently a resident of the Richmond area.

Richmond has changed, except for the sidewalks! They are still crap! :) LOVE seeing the films. It's like a time machine.
