The South lost! The Union eradicated the United States slave vermin which were the Southerners! Dixie ceased existing forever! Lincoln always in our heart!
The South of the United States remained traditional and very preserving. A black friend that I know, was in Alabama last year, and in a restaurant the waiters refused to serve to him because it was black! It is lamentable! Shame on you! The South will be never independent!
The pro UNION attitude doesn't help. Want to understand the South of the time? Substitute "Corporation" for "Plantation". It's not "Southerners" who supported slavery, it's the owners of the Plantation economy who did. The 1% of the time. They employed the poor(who they KEPT poor by hogging all the good land) as thugs to manage slaves. Then sent the poor to war with lies. The South working class is still brainwashed into thinking the Old South cared about them. It's sad.
@NYmovieGirl As a matter of fact, I have read Bruce Catton. One wonders if you have. Every single issue related to the outbreak of the Civil War arises from the slavery issue. No serious scholar of any repute suggests otherwise, regardless of your snark. Back to Nancy Drew for you!
@BlackNine313 And "State's Rights" is another word for "keeping slavery." If that professor meant any other thing, he was a revisionist liar. Even the documents of the day bear out the fact that the war was about slavery. The "Lost Cause" myth was created subsequent to the war, itself.
Oh, for pity's sake! The rebellion was about slavery. Period. Your saying otherwise doesn't make it so. Even the southern leaders admitted it was about slavery. "The Lost Cause" was cooked up by sore losers who should've been hanged after the war.
@HORNHost I had a history professor who said "if you put anything but 'State's Rights' on the exam, you'll fail. Period." Here's what happened:
Missouri wanted to join the union. The Federal Government said "ok, but no slaves." At the time, it was up to the States to decide if they wanted slaves. The South said "hey, lay off. Let them choose." The Feds said "HA! Good one." Then the South Attacked.
@HORNHost Why don't you read "The Civil War" by Bruce Catton, I should warn you it's not in the children's Or the YA section of the library and its over 600 pages and covers everything from the leading up to to the aftermath of the Civil War
@SuperFinkle well the Unification War, that Mal and Zoe fought in, was a lot like the American Civil War, Joss Whedon actually did that intentionally, he came up with the concept for Firefly after reading The Killer Angels
I think it's funny how people say,"You lost deal with it." When the South won almost every battle in the east. The South killed the north for the first two to three years. The winner writes the history book.Every history book says,"The South fought to keep their slaves..." When most southerners fought to defend their family, homes, and the South itself.People also think Southerners are ignorant.Hardly any northerners went to school either. It was too expensive!!!!!!
@3MusketeersMovies we learned that in NINTH grade, but still, loving your state is stupid, same as loving your geographic region, think about it, the US wouldnt be as great without you and the southern states wouldnt be as succesfull without their US goverment, and i think public schooling was offered after the war of 1812 or the civil war, [i forget]
LONG LIVE THE USA!!!!!!!! [including the southern states]
@3MusketeersMovies As a Canadian, I wish the South had won. "Slavery", as if it was about that. I'd like to see a second sucession honestly, the southern states shouldn't be soiled by the acts of burocrats.
@canuckleful Looks more likely every day my Canadian friend. People are sick and tired of being controlled by a Government that has grown far too large.
@3MusketeersMovies I knew that and I'm a born and raised northerner. In fact the north bore more animosity toward blacks before and after and more violence to them during the war.
@3MusketeersMovies I understand you won more battle than the Union, trust me, I do. But please understand this, militarily, it's the war itself you have to win. Most battles can be made meaningless if the important ones are lost.
@3MusketeersMovies would you mind educating me? i dont know anything about the southern mentality as to why they fought if not for slaves?im actually curious, no harm meant.
anybody that says the south was fighting for slavery is WRONG! most of the confederates that fought didn't have slaves. They were fighting for their homes their family, and most of all THE SOUTH!!!
The so called Civilized Tribes-the Cherokees,Choctaws,Chickasaws,Creeks and Seminoles-sided with the Confederacy. On October 28,1861,the Cherokee Nation issued the Declaration by the Peaple of the Cherokee Nation of the Causes Which Have Impelled them to Unite Their Fortunes Whith Those of the Confederate States of America,The Confederacy was delghted to have the Indians' support, and even promised them their own state, not mere federal reservation.
Somebody knows where can we find Dixie's piece of music which is played with the violin? It is a rare version of the music Dixie Land. Thank you for helping me.
