damn it man, you're stealing my niche!! :P nah, good job man! it's a lot harder than you'd think, isn't it. i've actually found that playing with a backing track helps loads with the overall effect, which is what i'm doing at the moment. i played my piece at an open mic not long ago over here in britain without the backing track, and i must say that when i played it the next week with, the overall audience response was MUCH better! keep it up though, coz we could be onto something here!
@JackyRowe Thankyou! great minds think alike!!! It's by far my all time favorite song. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, but violin is the one i currently play the least. This was not a very good performance. But within the next year I will be recording this song with accompaniment in the studio. I have noticed that unless the listener knows how to sing the song, playing without a backing track, no one knows what song you are covering. I'd love to hear your version!
@Xhell420 I'm a multi-instrumentalist too and violin is by far my best (also playing mandolin, guitar, harmonica, bass, piano, didgeridoo, bodhran, mandola, bouzouki amongst many others!!) And that's exactly the problem with doing this sort of thing solo. I don't play this song actually, but i will upload what i do very soon. I'll add you as a friend here on youtube, and i'll let you know when it's up. as a floyd fan, you should like it!
@Xhell420 and i do!! well bloody hell! There's a band over here in the UK called The Levellers. they've done some great folk-punk stuff, with fiddle and didgeridoo. i seriously recommend listening to this, wacking the quality of the video up to top notch, and booming this song out, it's bloody great!! and the atmosphere at this place they played called glastonbury (the biggest music festival in europe - the equivalent to your woodstock probably) was just incredible!
@Xhell420 /watch?v=tG-PafaMcA0 I AM NOT BEING SPAMMY!! This is my own version of comfortably numb on the violin (the first song) that i said i'd show when i got it up. so, now it's up, here you go!
This grew on me as it went on. Kind of like the very sad sounds you find in chinese martial arts movies, as the unrequited lover dies in the snow.
Especially liked your slow glissando downwards, a sort lietmotif by the end.
