I'm looking to open a home photo studio next year. My main question thus far is do I need something like a Nikon SB600 Speedlight in order to take decent portraits? Or will the lights I'll be using - two 650 watt lights with barndoors - be enough. Thanks in advance to any responses.

I agree with one comment--the info is super good stuff....but, the photos are very bland and non inspiring. Still, I've learned a LOT from watching the series. We could use a little less hand gesturing, btw. I know, I know, it's the way things are done in video.
Simplifying the technique for newbies obviously will have this kind of effect on the photos. The tutorials require your own personal artistic input for real world applications.
Good job. I referred a photographer to this site. I have taken studio lighting 5 years ago and learned a lot. But I like the way that you break things down. Fine job.
hey mark !!u the best ever ,,, learned a lot, thanks for these awesome vids!!! i think every aspiring photographer has gotta see these ... 10 stars buddy! lol, n keep em comin;0)
I ave seen A LOT of videos and you are by far are the best on youtube! Thanks so much for your videos. Your content is fantastic and you are extremely easy to listen to, great personality.
While this lighting setup is well over 4 digits in $price, most of this could be done with a few SB-26s ($120 or so on ebay). Just sayin, the equipment is between the ears.
9 feet is high enough but you won't have as many options as a 12 or 16 foot ceiling. I know a lot of people who shoot in living rooms and garages. It works. :)
It has only 250 pages, but hardcover has 300. I hope they didn't throw out something usefull.
Maybe you can take a random photo from that book and recreate for us on some episode. That would be great. My book will only arrive in late November. Thanks for sharing with us.

Please tell me the minimum height that a hair light should be.
I want to use my 9 foot tall garage. Is that tall enough?
Thx
