This is one of the best god damn movies ever, EVER!, made!

Also Robert, the character in this scene, had earlier shoot at a Hind with an RPG to draw the attention away from his fleeing comrades and knew that it didn't matter if he would hide or run since the hinds would keep comming at him until he was dead and maybe find his friends while they were hunting him.

So, he decided to sacrifice himself and go out while showing his defience against the invading army. That's how i view it.
