  • I just got goose bubs.

  • I may sound like a pussy, but this music scares the be Jesus out of me.

  • I also ran from getting off the bus to see this show after school too ! Barnabas wasn't a pretty boy or classically handsome, but the show was inexplicable in it's ability to draw me in. Loved it .

Now I hear Johnny Depp will be prtraying Barnabas in the re-vamp (excuse the pun) of Dark Shadows. Hope he does it justice.

  • I have some of the Dark Shadows comic books that were made back when this show was on.

  • Tim Burton this Piano Piece I've written would be perfect for your movie.

    It's called Nocturnal.

It's a dark dramatic piano piece.

Check it out on my channel.

  • This was appointment afterschool tv for us kids back in 1967-70

  • I have always wanted to go to Maine..And this is the reason why i want to move there. I need a vampire in my life :p

  • Burton-PLEASE don't fuck this up---PLEASE!

  • I Cannot Wait For The Johnny Depp/Tim Burton Film. I Hope It Captures Perfectly The Series' Iconic Gothic Atmosphere & Sense Of Dread. I Also Cannot Wait To See Or Hear As I Should Say, Danny Elfman's Take On The Classic Theme Song. Here's Hoping The Film Will Go A Long Way In Resurrecting The Franchise & Erase The Bitter Taste Of Twilight & It's Ridiculous Bedazzler-Vamps!

  • Does anyone remember the opening credits where there was a hand coming out of the ground? I can't find that anywhere. It used to scare me so much I'd cover my eyes, of course I was only four or five at the time.

  • I was a kid when this was on. It was really unique. A vampire soap opera. I never got into it, but I had friends who did.

  • damn! can anyone tell me where can I see this online?!

  • i remember faking i was sick throughout elementary school just to stay home at watch these in the 90s.. hahah

  • MF DOOM!

  • I am Donna Wandrey! I was on Dark Shadows (later than this opening of course)! Anyone wants to converse with me email me at donnawandrey@yahoo.com!

  • Barnabas, Count Yorga, Dracula, and Blacula can kick the current vampires playing on tv and movies any night of the week.

  • Like Barnabas Collins? Try Sebastian Vasilis: "Last Rites: The Return of Sebastian Vasilis"

  • fuck tim burton

  • @metallibanger fuck you :)

  • reminds me of(say it with me)THEEEE EDDDDDGE.....OF NIGHT!

  • this is from the 1960s, not 1970s

  • @LOLFanme You are correct. It actually ran from 1966-1971. As a kid I watched this in the early 70's.

  • USED TO RUN HOME EVERYDAY AND HOPE THAT IT WOULD BE ON CHANNEL 9 OR THAT WE COULD GET CHANNEL 9.

  • For all of you Dark Shadows fans, you can find the reruns on Hulu.

  • my mom watched this all the time and we're from maine where this show took place..

we also live on the coast >.>

  • ever since i heard tim burton was directing a movie about this, ive been reserching it n learning what its about. he'' do this justice this is right up his ally. give him planet of the apes he'll fuck that up but something like this hes good

  • ~ Hunnph, it's far interesting to watch such shows with some knowledge of what makes a real vampire, the various leads from the old world at different levels of ED of the cosmic natural laws; Things like PSEM (Psycho-electromagnetism) - my own interpretation this day, in the human body and how it's channelled like in becoming a Saint as the same source energy for becoming a vampire.

  • can someone tell me if this was the show with a store and a spoky house that had tunnels and had scene abut the tunnels?

  • Same here but it aired at 3:30 on the west coast. Such a great show, I didn't know Tim Burton was planning a movie version. Hope he can do it justice.

  • I loved this show as a kid. Of course I watched the reruns being born in the 80s, but it was an awesome show.

  • I can't fucking wait 4 the tim burton version!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing how ABC marketed a soap opera about vampires to late '60s TV audiences. Equally amazing is how so many of the show's most rabid followers (no pun intended) were children. With all the remakes and movie versions of classic TV shows over the past 20 years, I don't understand why this one hasn't been a part of that. I think they did a movie and a made-for-TV thing but that was about it. I even remember seeing a thing about Jonathan Frid in Tiger Beat back then!

  • @elc1960 it will be made next year with director tim burton and johnny depp as barnabas collins :)

  • @YourOasis97 No surprise there - Depp is a perfect Barnabas Collins.

  • @elc1960 i don;t know about that, this show was WAY before my time so i've never seen it but I guarantee Depp can play ANYTHING. So I'm sure he'll pull this off. :)

  • I grew up in a small town in Maine and believed the show, since it took place there, was actually filmed there too. I never missed an episode.

  • I remember rushing home every afternoon after school to watch this!!!! In my hometown in North Carolina, it use to air @ 4:30 pm and our school bus would arrive at our stop at that time! WOW!!! I use to run home to try not to miss the first 5 mins.!!!! What a POWERFUL show!!!! Love it til this day!!!!

  • Cool. I too am from NC and used to do the exact same thing. It was always kinda spooky cuz mom and dad had not gotten home.

  • @Thebigbadwoof Same here lol

  • @MrJamie1932 LMAO I'm from Cherry Point, NC and did the very same thing lol

  • @MrJamie1932 I grew up in NY and also use to run home to watch everyday at 4 pm...I loved it.

  • I love this series, it's probably the only soap opera I have ever loved. I really miss watching Dark Shadows. This opening is a classic! : )

  • One of the best TV openers ever! The combination of the dark, crashing waves, the howling wind and the dark silhouette of the house (with those three windows) with Cobert's utterly perfect music... just completely sums the whole series up in 30 seconds. I think I like this B&W original better than the revamped colour one, though.

  • I used to play on those very rocks as a kid!

    ... spooky indeed.

  • Never missed it. Even had the Barnabus Collins game!

  • I was in the 3rd grade when this show was on.. My mom let me go home from school with a friend every day for an hour or so, but she sure wouldn't have had she known I was watching this EVERY afternoon.. LOLOL

  • best soap opera EVA!

  • Where's the updated version? In later years, the title floated & curved around the screen for a few seconds before settling in the center.

  • The D and S is the Olde English font.

  • THE BEST!!!!!
