The Zombies were the only band from the British Invasion that had full-blown virtuoso in Rod Argent. No offense to Jeff Beck, who soon became one, but not quite at the very beginning.

Senior year-traveled by train to memphis to sing with the CBC college. There was a
dance on friday night. The band played this song several times. After going home to Chicago, It haunted me to find out who did it. One night at a dance "Denny and the Decades played it and I asked Denny who had recorded it. Come to find out, I had it all along-it was on the flip side of the 45rpm: "She's not there" by the Zombies.
You know I listened to the "B" side of every record I ever bought after that!
Every so often I Google "Denny and the Decades" and until now never got a match. I was the organist and singer for the group and often wonder what happened to Denny. finding your post was fun. Until now, I had forgotten this song, let alone the fact we performed it. Wonder if you remember where you saw us? We spent a lot of time playing the Holiday Ballroom, but played a lot of venues during the mid 60s.
@westhetenor I saw you guys at the "Way Out", on Dempster, c'66. Another night there, I saw Denny win a drum-off with a sales rep from Ludwig(?). Supposedly he won a drum set. I never heard if he really got it.

@wes: Denny was still drumming, writing, recording & singing 15yrs ago. He's disappeared since. I jammed w/him regularly c'73. My brother played w/him c'87. After "The Decades", Denny replaced Phil in "The Mauds", & was a founding member of "Aura" aka "Giant City' w/Al Lathan, singer from "4 Days & a Knight". They had a contract w/Mercury Records c'71.
What a voice, what a melody! It'a great song and one of my favourite from Zombies.

Good band, but I liked the Buckinghams' version of this song better.

Looking at the cart I seem to recall Boris Karloff's real name was William Henry Pratt.
