It was a straight ad for the times ... Why was it "Odd" or "Funny"? (BTW, If you were born after 1975, don't bother answering unless you have an intelligent, coherent answer. )
Funny thing is, we were a much more disciplined and effective Air Force back then. We knew what was important and concentrated on those things rather than all of today's silliness.

@lucabrasi1337 That is definitely gives the AF a lot of credit. But I knew veterans from that time period of service who told me that the quality of life was in the shitter. "You DON'T want to know what it was like then," they told me.
We should have retained that discipline and effectiveness. If it has helped drudge through the Cold War, wouldn't that be worth keeping?
This commercial is from 1955. $5000 back then, adjusted for inflation, is about $36k today. Throw in an officer's commission, travel and a marketable skill afterwards, and that is still an attractive deal.
Thats not alot at all. And yes, you can. Kinda. Its really hard to get into the United States Airforce Academy, though. I've passed the IQ part of it. I still have to take a physical portion of the test though.
That's why the Air Force is gay only made 5000 a year go navy

Men, i think this spot must be from the early 50s ( cause the Jet in the Vid is a B-47 which was replaced by the B-52 at the middle/end of the 50s ).
So 5000 Bucks maybe was a lot at this time....
