in case your are interested the bulk of Ray's Salford exhibition is travelling down to us in London - opens June 18th. Similar to up North only bigger plus contributions from the likes of Tracey Emin, Billy Childish and Harry Hill

Hi Tricia,Tony, well to say the news is a shock is a massive understatement. Ray to me was a man of immense talent, fierce intelligence, huge compassion and humility. I will always remember the many journeys we took to see him up in Rawtenstall and Waterfoot and the crazy escapades that ensued. I am privileged you introduced me to such a wonderful and talented human being and will never forget the happy times we all shared to together. RIP Ray ave a drink for us..
Shocking news, Tony.He designed the best ever cover for the best ever rock n roll album and that`s only scratching the surface. You`re blessed to have known him so well. Not much else I can say.
watching this in new york. Thanks for posting. I used to read his cartoons in the NME on the bus going to punk rock gigs. Brings back lovely memories. It's a joy to see his paintings and that he had a go in colour. Am sad. Would love to see more close ups if possible. God bless.
Ray was the man, man. His work needed to be seen and just when it was...how like him to leave the stage before the applause. Good night Ray - yes, I loved you - you knew it.
Great art work, great video and awesome tune...everything was so creatively put together and entertaining..damn I'm jealous, I love art galleries..wish I was there to hear the conversations!!!
Thank you so much Rose, this is one of the best comments I have ever had I think. This is actually a small portion of a 40 minute piece I did about the exhibition which I am thinking of expanding into a full hour documentary in the future.
If you liked Rays work and want to hear more about him listen to my radio show tomorrow night at 9pm on Salford City Radio 94.4fm. You can hear it online.
I'm gonna be in the city tomorrow night, but if I get home by 9 or a little later, as certain as the Pope has a balcony, damn straight I'll check it out!
Tony and Tricia, thank you so much for the tour through the exhibition. 'fraid I got here a bit late as I live in american and you may have heard, we are "falling apart," he he he. Good show and the music was perfect for the trip! Dig it that one can take music which appeals to our "ear" and translate it into a painting which captures our "eye." But, actually that always happens I think; when I hear music I "see" images.. but I just can't capture it in art, even my stick figures look funny!!
Better late than never my dear. I agree with you about seeing images with music, I do it all the time which can be a problem when I am driving the car.
Yeah, I understand completely..I was listening to a song I heard on YT called "One Sore Pussy" while driving to work one day and the "images" in my mind were so "interesting" that I did not see that Hummer coming..it wasn't pretty, the guy in the Hummer didn't look too good either..!!! oh well.
ahhrg, couldn't understand what that guy spoke about Ray Lowry, he said something that he takes the music into the painting? Very nice exhibition! you are a busy man!
Hey fantastic to see what you were working on. Great interview. I didn't really go with the intention of doing any video. I just used the compact camera to put the Crimpolenes on youtube to share with them. It was a great night despite the rain.
weel done mate, and great to hear Johhny Green! being roadmanager for The Clash is godlike status for me, and about time Ray got some recognition, hope it all goes well! top shelf video sir 5*****
This was the first time I have ever met Johnny, but we have been in contact on and off for a few years now. A real larger than life character and a good geezer.
Thanks Bobbie. Yeah! Johnny is one cool guy, I noticed the socks too, well It was hard not to really. Only someone of Johnny's stature can carry that one off like he does.
By the way the music is American and we English can't take credit for The Band. I guess you knew that though.
Keep pausing to get a good look at the paintings ,only really seen his cartoons before. You`re right about Johnny carrying style off, would`nt see him in Matalan.Excellent
I agree with you Carl, this video is very well done and I enjoyed it a lot. It's an excellent footage worthy of skyARTS, BBC4 or other Arts & Culture channels. It was also great to hear and see Johnny Green, as well as to take a look at Ray Lowry's works.
Thanks Coconut, It was my pleasure to show you around. I would have got you a beer too had you been there. It was free but I would have put my hand in my pocket for you no problem.
