The intensity of the sound gives me goosebumps. Thrilling to hear orchestras play. Small pauses give it a frenetic feel, which always delights me in a way, especially when in the mood, but this is definitely not easy-listening. An interesting experiment nevertheless, and I'm glad I could witness this even if I weren't there for the live act. :)
this could easily become the soundtrack to the eeriest scenes of Stanley Kubrick's films. plus i wonder if anyone in the audience imagined being in Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind around 6:09
@yapira3d He's using visual cues to control the band. They are dependant upon him in order to play. He is, in most senses of the word, controlling them.
yeah you have to watch more than the first 5 minutes to really be able to criticise it, after that it has a cool atmosphere although it probably does need to be worked on a bit more
Wah, I'm an aphex twin fan and I'm an entitled twat. Wahhh I can't be bothered to research similar concepts like Xenakis or Stockhausen wahhh classical music is for homosexuals wahhh.
The man owes you absolutely NOTHING. I for one liked the concept and thought the sound was unique. How many other people do you know that midi control an orchestra and make it sound interesting?
Bunch of babies complaining on the internet. Go make your own music instead of whining about someone elses.
I'm sick of Aphex Twin getting away with such horrible bullshit crap and then saying its artsy and intellectual. This is stupid and everyone knows it. Its bullshit.
@vectro242 Nobody ever said it was artsy or intellectual. It's no less or more artsy or intellectual than any of his other songs. It's just that this is an experiment, achieving an atmosphere rather than a conventional melody.
At least we know that AFX is not dead :D Now seriously, don't forget that this is an experiment, firstly(read the description about remote control, headphones and other stuff). So deal with it. I think he's just trolling around to let people know that he's still making music. That's all. Lazy bastard made money in 90-s and 00-s so why can't he do things like that? :D
Big fan of AFX and of 20th century classical, but this isn't great. Cool concept, but needs a lot more work. It is unclear how this benefitted from the introduction of technology.
clearly some first-time aphex twin listeners here. were you expecting an immense symphony orchestra? from what i've heard of his work, there's maybe one or two albums at most i enjoy, but you have to approach it all with the mindset of him doing whatever he wants. what he did here seemed fun, it sounded like it was his stuff too, and it created quite the atmosphere. liking even somewhat experimental music does not make the hipster

It an idea. Further investigation needs to be made. But not by Aphex Twin. Preferably a musician.

It does sound terrible, but I though it was a really interesting experiment. I don't think it was ever meant to sound good.
