a year later....(i know i know) just letting ya'll know i Resolved "Bonkers Screen" i had a beta win 7 disc in the drive my machine was booting from even tho disc drive wasn't in the Boot Order
oh well....simple fix.

that's horrible :( Have you tried a Linux Live CD (like Ubuntu or Linux Mint) to see if you get any graphical desktop at all?
I've heard that the T61 versions using the nVidia chipset seem to share the same problem with burned out GPU after a while. I think it can be repaired by the Lenovo service team.

I don't think its graphics, the card shows the graphics before loading windows... Your installation is corrupt.. re-install
