gazelle planting its feet for the juke..low runnin, leaning into the turns..and finally extending its stride to pull away....nice endzone skipping too
Wonder how fast Gazelles run, because them Cheetahs can go up to 70mph. I'm guessing it depends on how hungry they are how hard they'll try to catch its prey.
@TomaCukor Yeah seems Gazelles if they are lucky to dodge the cheetah's attacks they can out last them. Most herbivores have high amounts of stamina because of their diet. Guess its the natural way of a meat diet vs vegetable.
@wannabethug7 Has to do with muscle fiber. Cheetahs are pure fast twitch muscles. Their leg composition is like 70% fast twitch, which is about the same as an Olympic-level short track sprinter. Gazelle has more slow twitch fiber like a longer distance runner would have, so they can go on much longer without fatigue or slowing down.
doesn't this remind of ice age, when diego was chasing this gazelle and he gets tired, and the gizelle starts to dance saying some thing like "tip toe tip toe my feet it on fie'" lol
turn to the left, turn to the right, and there he goes, 10, 20, 30, 40 yards, jumps and scoores, its a touch down, and he celebrates doing a little jumping dance, unbelievable!!!!!
When fleeing from a hunting cheetah a fleeing Thompsons gazelle will interrupt its escape with a number of high vertical leaps with its legs held straight and stiff beneath its body.
Just learnt about stotting! And this video was very helpful!
?? The thompson's gazelle is the second fastest land animal in Africa, reaching 50 mph, second only to the, cheetah which runs at 70, that's scientific fact.
The Gazelle outran the cheetah because it happens. All they show you on youtube is the cheetah winning, if you saw the other side you'd know this is not always the case, a normal cheetah only kills 50% of its prey, they have alot of unsuccesfull chases. An adult gazelle has as big a chance of escaping as being dinner.
they did not seem fully into the chase though, probably because their weak point is that they cant run at top speeds for a long distance. So they thought its pointless to continue, and search for an easier target
cheetahs usually go for the slowest, weakest, or easiest catch. They actually arent trying to run for that long, so if a cheetah makes the mistake of picking a fully grown in shape gazelle, the chances of them catching it are slim.
That little Thomie is prancing around at the end like "YEAH BITCHES!!" He probably went back and told his friends how he kicked the crap out of two cheetahs.
It's all about not expending energy. If they see a Cheetah and run all the time that would be a waste. The time to run is when you KNOW the cheetah is stalking you. That is why the Gazelles keep a substantial flight distance between themselves and predators.
It's a dance that's been going on for thousands of years. The cheetah's actually enjoy the chase. There are thousands more gazelles than cheetahs for a reason. The gazelle often loses that race. By the way, the cheetah is the fastest land animal and is quite good at zig-zagging, as they use their tail as a rudder. Cheetahs also run for short distances not just because they run out of energy, but because they overheat to the point where it's often life threatening.
They don't enjoy the chase. They do it for survival. When a Tommy is aware of a Cheetah the Cheetah will forgo the hunt completely to not risk energy expenditure.
Furthermore, on average Tommies escape more often than not. It is the Tommie fauns that are more susceptible to predation...Not the adults.
Sure they do. When you've worked with them for over 30 years you can see they really dig the chase. It's inherent to what they are. The adults are susceptible as well. Cheetahs are very effective hunters with a very high kill rate in comparison to other predators. They simply are not strong enough to defend their kills and they'd rather live to hunt another day.
Cheetah's are cool, I have to admit. But compared to African wild dogs, they are EXTREMELY un-successful, African wild dogs get their prey 9/10. But cheetah's do look cooler when they run.
African wild dogs are what you call successful because they work in packs. Cheetahs have a high degree of success individually and sometimes as small coalitions. Animals have unique traits that make them special. Cheetahs are all about speed, lightweight bones, extra large heart and lungs, flexible spine, etc, allows them in many cases to run over 70 mph. When you see it in person it really makes an impact on you.
Shit based on those horns if I were the gazelle I would have maybe given those cheetash a taste of my horns...those horns did not look insignificant to me. But I realize the impulse reaction of the gazelle is to flee.....The cheetah IS faster than the gazelle but the gazelle while fleeing has the advantage of zig-zagging so the cheetah has a tougher time touching it....and cheetahs can only pursue their pray for a minute or so before the cheetahs run out of energy and stamina.
Naw, Cheetah's can do better" Zig-Zags" then a gazelle, Cheetahs have their claws, and their always out like dogs, they use them for grip, so they don't lose speed on the zig zags
the cheetahs tail is its most important attribute when it comes to the zig zaging, it keeps them inbalance. also the gazelles do cut better than the cheetahs because of the hooves.
HAHAHA. Go my beautiful gazelles go! Antelopes rule and u all know. HA Don't make fun of those graceful animals. They beat all the animals in the worls. Cheetahs are just carnivores. They proved their point and now its the antelope's turn
The Tommys are nearly as fast as cheetahs.... if the cheetah maks just one little mistake with a healthy gazelle, the gazelle will certainly outrun it.
I like cheetahs but love gazelles. These gazelles deserve a lot of respect. Outrunning the fastest animal on earth is no easy job. So much is said about cheetahs and their speeds but so little about these wonderful creatures. I agree cheetahs are awesome but gazelles are no less skillful. Gazelles deserve life as much as cheetahs do. The Cheetah probably can go without food for a few more days or might even find food sooner but life once lost can never come back.
And why the fuck did that gazelle take so damn long to realize it was being chased?? It only started running when the cheetah was already like two feet behind it.
Thompson's Gazelle's and Cheetah's have amazing running technique. They both like stretch out their bodies when they sprintin and their feet are like almost always off the ground.
These 2 have just been left by there mother so they dont know how to hunt properly... Studies have shown that in the serengeti expierienced adults can catch up to 70% of there pray
nokiafan, sorry i do not agree with ur suggestion just because if we took all the buffalos out there would be 2 many plants and stuff of what ever they eat....
how i see it, there are hundreds and thousands of buffalos, gazelles, and zebras, yet there are only a few thousand of lions, tigers, and cheetas left..i say we kill those buffalos to feed those future-extinct lions and tigers
thomson's gazelles are too small to use their horns against cheetahs or lions. males use them to defend their territories and females to defend their babies against jackals and baboons
Tommy's horns are only for intraspecific conflict, not interspecific conflict. Male Tommies use their horns to fight for territory and the right to mate. The only defense a Thomson's gazelle has against its many enemies(Cheetah, Lions, Wild Dogs, and Hyenas)is to flee...And they do so quite well.
A female tommy will use her horns to fend of jackals or baboons that try to kill her fawn. males use them in fights. but overall an impala is too light and weak to use them against predators. they've got speed and stamina so they often flee. a cheetah needs to be within 30 yards of a tommy in order to catch it, and even still it can easily get juked by the tommy.
