There is something else people should know. They aren't just charging more money for cables that are gold plated or not. Usually the thicker the cable the higher the transfer rate. With that said the 30 dollar cables only transfer 4.25 gb of info per second. The 80 dollar cables send 10.25 gigs, the 119.99 dollar cable transfers 17.25. So why is that important? Well if you want to get a 3dtv anytime soon you can not use the 4.25 cable if you want 3d. Also gold is the best metal for conduction.
i payed 19.99 for mine at gamestop. im guessing the 34 dislikes were people who payed a lot of money thinking they were getting something better lol.
At 2:25 you read the facts off from a cheat sheet you taped to the side of your monitor. I knew you didn't know these HDMI facts off the top of your head! Good video though man :-)
? if i want to hookup a 2.1 surround sound with a hdmi is it possible seeing as how hdmi is made to output audio and visual how would that work? and if it is not possible how do i get the same picture with rca cables
People, copper is copper. those 50$ cables are essentially the same as the $2 hdmi cable i can get at my local dollar store. however unless your system has some analogue components like a turn table, the cable really had no effect. only thing that really differs between the 2 dollar cable and a 75 dollar one is build quality.
I agree, best buy you get it a fancy package, the package makes you think it's higher quality and of course that package adds to the price of the cable.
Great video, thanks! Just called BestBuy and they have a 24ft HDMI cable for $149 & HDMI to mini display adapter is $25, WTF! The 25ft HDMI cable at Monoprice (product #2841) is only $17!
This is dead right. Monster should be put out of business, some companies have ripped people of a great deal less and been banged to rights. Rip off merchants.
I buy all my cables at Monoprice. I highly recommend them. I bought a whole mess of different sizes, so that I could route my cables cleanly. I paid less than the price of one cable at BB. They have awesome prices on heavy gauge speaker wire also.
this is simply the best deal for hdmi cables...i just got a 6ft hdmi cable for $6.57 shipping included. If you go somewhere like bestbuy a 6ft hdmi cable ranges from $24.99 to $169.99..Ridiculous price
Wtf, i read a comment from below "gold is a poor conductor". Are you fucking stupid! Gold is the 100% best conducter. High priced cars like Paganis use it in thier electrical systems.
Today, I actually got a 4 ft cable for 10 bucks at Walmart, manufactured by Philips. It was a replacement for the old cable that cost $14.50 from Big Lots which broke within a week. I don't think the bandwidth on the old cable was very good, probably just standard definition, but this new cable is hi-speed with 3D support. I think I did decient, but I could do better, XD
I agree with you about most things, but when using a Plasma tv, especially for gaming, you need a cable that will match your tv or else you just paying for an lcd or led tv. When a tv transmits 3d signal it need more room for data to transfer, I always run audioquest hdmi cables and they do an awesome job. I have directly compared a "cheap" cable to an expensive one and the more expensive ones do make a difference in 3d and for gaming.
Thanks for this! I knew this already but it's great to hear from someone so informed! I subscribed to your channel as this was the first video I've seen from you and I love your ease in front of the camera, your intelligent and easy to understand information! Awesome!

I needed HDMI cables for a new home theater setup I've got goin' on and I'm dying to try it out, so I was tempted to go to Wal-Mart or Best Buy and buy a Monster Price Cable, but I ended up just getting 3 HDMI's (plus a 15' co-axle) for the price of 1 cable at the store. Only downside is that I have to wait to get them in the mail, it's all good tho 'cuz amazon had a deal (free 2day shipping) if I signed up for AmazonPrime trial.
@pringle2333 i had a 3dtv vizio 32 inch and i bought like 3 diffrent cheap hdmi cables from walmart and family dolar and it both looked the same the only diffrence with one it was darker so i guess its the same in all almost ..im not sure tho might look better but who knows
I love all sorts of HDMI cables. There are no differences in picture quality when using HDMI cables. A $5 cable will give the same picture quality as a $50 cable. The only difference in HDMI cables are the build quality and materials used in a HDMI cable. Just go out and buy a reasonable price HDMI cable and your good to go...no need for drama...
hey i got a new hdmi-hdmi cable and it works perfectly sound and all, but as soon as i install my GPU's drivers, the colour and general quality turns bad. I have a Dvi-Hdmi cable that works fine up to a resolution of 1360x768, any thing past that and i get the same quality as the hdmi-hdmi cable does with the drivers installed, any idea whats going on?
Can you please make a recommendation for cables of 30 feet? I'm going to have the components for my tv separate from my tv. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, this is great. I heard the same thing from one of my friend, but I kept getting sales pitches for more expensive cables from sales people. You totally solidified my choice.
i use to work at bestbuy and got complained to constantly about the price of hdmi cables. Shitty $2 cables are good for short term use. The most common cable we sold was the 6' rocketfish and customers were extremely happy. its the longevity of the cable that makes a good cable, rocketfish uses 4 gauge where shitty quality ones use 10 to 8 guage. they may be good for a year or 2 but they do not hold up down the line.
Nice to find someone who doesn't buy into the hype. This is all true and it is in a similar league to the "digital" TV antenna rubbish. There is no such thing as a digital antenna. Antennas don't care what they transmit or recieve and neither do cables. Provided they are in good physical condition they will work. It's just a way for businesses to take back some of the discount they gave on that new TV they just sold some unsuspecting customer.
What about the HDMI cable included in the online essentials pack for ps3? 29.99 online comes with giotecx Bluetooth headset, ps3 real triggers, and giotecx gold plated full hd HDMI cable? Is that a good cable and a good deal?
A friend of mine got ripped of when he bought his HDTV last year, he was up sold two expensive HDMI Cables. One was $99.99 plus tax, and the the other was $199.99 plus tax. I told him to return them and get cheap HDMI cables because there is no difference at all.

Instead, I stocked up on generic brand 1.5m (~>5 ft.) HDMI cables at a Fry's in their bargain bins for 4.59 each. Could've gone with full 6' for a little more, but I didn't need the extra length. They were CONVENIENTLY located far far away from the usual home theater section where they schill the Monsters.
I did get a 25' cable for 14.99, but that was for another room.

hey. to be honest i am a noob on this right now. i currently picked up a 32" lcd 720p hdtv. but i am lost on what would be the best hdmi cable to use for my playstation 3 can anyone help me with this one.
Saying all HDMI cables will do the same job simply because they will all pass a digital signal is like saying that all auto tires are the same because they will all rotate, contact the road, and get your car from point A to B. Is that also true?
Hey I'm about to get a 12' HDMI cable at Comp USA for 4.99. Does this mean it would be a great cable. Or a cheap one that doesn't give me great picture quality?
actually the part about if the hdmi cable is gold or the not, actually matters not too much though... because gold is a better electricity conductor than the other metal used for regular hdmi cables... but still it's not to much of a difference and I have the standard hdmi (no gold plated) doesn't mean you can't get either of them... either of them are fine.
I got mine free....

MrArmenian17 5 months ago
Saying all HDMI cables will do the same job simply because they will all pass a digital signal is like saying that all auto tires are the same because they will all rotate, contact the road, and get your car from point A to B. Is that also true?
TheAvphysician 5 months ago

Hey I'm about to get a 12' HDMI cable at Comp USA for 4.99. Does this mean it would be a great cable. Or a cheap one that doesn't give me great picture quality?

andyruffa21 7 months ago
actually the part about if the hdmi cable is gold or the not, actually matters not too much though... because gold is a better electricity conductor than the other metal used for regular hdmi cables... but still it's not to much of a difference and I have the standard hdmi (no gold plated) doesn't mean you can't get either of them... either of them are fine.
