  • SPEAKER POLICE! love your vids ,..........but the sound on this one ON MY!its AWESOME!

  • Thank you! :3

  • BTW this is not exacly a mac notice the flared radiators some railfans includeing me like to call it the inbreed of a mac and ace we call it a mace. :)

  • This is a second generation SD70MAC. Earlier designs had flat radiators; when the horsepower was increased on the later variants, the radiators were canted outward to add cooling capability.

  • @SpeakerPolice ya ik it just sounds cool to call it a mace lol

  • Sounds kinda funny x3

  • -.- sounds like a class 66-67 from england. why!?! they have the same engine!

  • Indeed, same EMD 16-710G3 engine.

  • @SpeakerPolice sorry to tell you this but it looks like a mac cause its far from sd70ace...

  • I never said they were SD70ACes. 'SD70AC' is CSX's designation for the SD70MAC, because their numbering computer can only support up to six characters.

  • why the locomotive in not moving

  • The train is not ready to depart just yet.

  • @LiviuJETIX They might be warming it up before they go

  • The train goes..."Wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubdubadubadubadubadubadubadubaduba..."

  • okay, i just take pics of trains for something to do. so im no foamer or tech savy person. is this in a high idle or in neutral in higher gear to charge the air brakes?

  • Technically, those two are the same thing. The engineer has the reverser in N (neutral) and the throttle somewhere above 4, on a scale of 1-8. He is probably doing this to pump up the trainline air, yes. :)

  • @stormspotter67 EMD engines, 60 series and up have computers on board that monitor parameters like main reservoir pressure. After startup, if it's lost it's MR pressure, it'll idle up the engine to turn the compressor faster to build air. The diesel engine crankshaft comes out both ends of the block, one side for the main gen and the other for the compressor. There are EMDs out there with electric compressors, but they're not common on our line (CN)

  • Nice locos and diesel sound. Thumbs up! :)

  • Thank you! ^^

  • Would have loved to be there when this happened!

  • It was amazing. 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice where was this at?

  • CSXT Taft Yard in Orlando, FL.

  • No, but I can imagine! :3

  • Just wait until you hear it from inside the cab... 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice no...

you try to walk through the engine room of an MP40PH-3C, you'll be wondering if you're gonna make it over to the end of the train in one piece...

  • I don't know about you, but I'd be enjoying every second of that. x3

  • @SpeakerPolice are you replying to me?

  • Indeed I am! :3

  • It's a much BIGGER sound... :B

  • @TrainHistorian

You can, go to Best Buy, they sell external sound cards for PC. Uses USB connect and has a line out and RCA inputs too. You can jam on home stereo from PC

  • This is music to my ears!! an I agree, this would sound AWESOME thro subwoofers!!!! Im sick of the loud-ass mufflers coming from kids cars outside my window...

  • Oh, MUCH better-sounding than those mufflers, I bet! xD

  • Who is saying "We are go for launch"?

  • That would be me, of course. :B

  • @SpeakerPolice alright

  • Hey, what about the days when the lightning bolts under the window indicated "radio equiped".

  • I miss those. Like on the Lehigh Valley and Rock Island!

  • EMD two-stroke > yapping dogs. xD

  • Music INDEED!

  • You're tellin' me!

  • sd70mac yes

  • That is correct.

  • that would be a SD70M

  • SD70MAC. Check out the AC lightning bolt under the cab window.

  • i love that sound its so cool i like the sound of the 8-40CW

  • Different sounds entirely, but both cool nonetheless ;)

  • i love that sound its so cool

  • listen to this video with earbuds!

  • Don't break 'em. xD

  • Way up with speakers and such it sounds like the train is in my freaking bedroom

  • I remember hearing the start up of a CSX Dash-8 40CW in YN2, it sounded so wounderful and POWERFUL!! >:D

  • What, you mean like the video I shot of exactly that? ^^

(Check out the 'Suggestions' column next to this video, tenth video down!)

  • i love this sound .. hay man u need 6.1 super bass tube with your system to enjoy this sound its rely awesome ..

  • Yes, sounds great with a subwoofer. :)

  • @SpeakerPolice A MEN

  • I spent 6 minutes waiting for this thing to move. A few tantalizing sounds of what I hoped was brakes releasing, and... nothing

  • As per the title, this is a startup video. Watch part 2 to see the locomotives take off. ;)

  • power!!!!

  • Yes! And lots of it! ^^

  • love the video- you said your a "Railfan" and out at the yard? do you work for CSX??? wondering how youve liked it, what you do, so forth.... Im just finishing up my deisel tech training and got a whole bunch of apps out for CSX... Ive always like trains in my own way and wanting to work on them,.,

  • Woooa,,,sounds like the Space shuttle taking off,,,hahahhaa

  • HI speaker police i really love this vid ! the sound is AWESOME! its on my favs sorry if i upset you about a year back! with my comment ! i do like your vids regards raymondrayban , north london once again WHAT A SOUND! keep up the good WORK !

  • Not a problem. ^^

  • EU is jelous of these

  • Heehee, it's hard not to be! 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice Lol, in my opinion the EU trains look strange, theyre all round.. and yeah im a huge train enthusiast, I have a resteraunt near me that was an old trainstation, and the track is still in use lol, so the freight trains go right beside the resteraunt, everything starts shaking its awesome... I always make a reservation beside the windows next to the track :D

  • Epic sound! Love it man!!

  • Thank you! I SHOULD have more like this soon, including an SD70MAC taking off from a standstill to Notch 8!

  • @SpeakerPolice Awesome!!! cant wait to see it!!!!!

  • Should be up this week. xD

  • but you can not beat the BNSF

  • I think they take better care of their equipment, if that's what you mean. xD

  • Great diesel sound, power

  • Oh, yes. More like this to come soon!

  • I thought I Saw you on Roblox. I am Zeke74653

  • Nope, never been on there. xD

  • Fool...these engines turn 875 RPM. THey're two strokes, probably the last 2 stroke diesels you'll ever see new.

  • I am looking at my original EMD SD70M operator's manual right now, and it states that full load maximum RPM for the 16-710G3 engine is 904 RPM. It's rather ignorant to call someone that's been researching the finer points of railway diesel engines for the better part of five years a 'fool'.

  • @SpeakerPolice Not you...you're correct (although for longevity, EMDs like being somewhat under 900 for the most part). The other "fool" who said they spin up to 2600 RPM! EMDs have always been rated for 900 in stationary generator service, going back to the 567s, but on the rails they were 825 through 875. First one to go all the way to 900 was the 20V645E3 in the SD45X that went to SP. It was quickly derated, although that one had the rear main bearing webbing modification.

  • Ohhh, whoops. Now I feel stupid. ^^; Sorry about the misunderstanding! xD Those SD45Xs were something else. How I wish there was just one left...I wonder if that hunk of half of one of them is still rusting away in Kentucky.

  • @SpeakerPolice I think the SD45Xs went back to EMD fairly early and SP never bought them, but I'm not completely sure. The Xs, including the GP40Xs (which SP later bought and kept) were test beds for the failed 50 series. SP traded the GP40Xs for some GP60s later on, that much I remember. The big deal about the 45X was that EMD proved they could rate the 20V at 900 RPM (3800 HP) without it breaking a crankshaft. They also had the first radar anti-slip system and 42" drivers on HT-C trucks.

  • What really got me was those huge radiators with the four fans. I would have loved to have seen an actual SD55...

  • Still sounds the best.....beautiful and addictive.......but i'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing... as my kids think i'm a bit strange for liking these things.......mostly as i'm a female.. and.. i'm not gay, as far as I know.........but do you get that? is this weird?

  • It's not weird at all! These big engines have a certain allure to them that draws peoples' attention. I was hooked the very first time I heard one. xD

  • Wow only 904 RPM??? Well i guess it sounds like more because of the 16 cylinder arrangment. Iron splittin torque. I wish i had a diagram to see the drivetrain layout. That always interested me in how they got that to work.

  • They are hard to find, but they are out there. eBay is usually where I see them. xD

  • Wow...I plugged in a high qaulity headset to my laptop and MY GOD what BASS!!! MAN!!!! Nothing like a hard hitting diesel!!!

  • If you like the bass in this one, you should definitely check out my other SD70MAC starting and idle notching video. 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice I'll check it out....Man I'm amazed at these things. I know the engines only turn about 2000-2500 RPM max but Christ!!! it's so deep and loud!!! LOVE IT!

  • Not sure on the 710 series, but the maximum rpm on a 16-645E3 is only 904. xD I fell in love the moment I drove by my local yard for the first time. xD

  • Ain't nothing like the sound of an EMD two stroke!

  • Most older EMDs are started with a combination prime/start switch right on the engine block. Very fun to do, and I speak from experience!

  • Awesome sound from this SD70, my favourite american locomotive!

  • They are great fun to listen to. 8D

  • That was only up to about 4 or 5. Just enough to get the engine warm. ^^

  • That is a SD90 note the lighting bolt under the unit number, That is CSXs way of showing that that Loco is a AC-loco. SD90 is a bit bigger in size than a SD70. some SD90 were 6000h/p. UP reengined theirs to 4390h/p. A SD70m is 4000h/p and the new SD70ACE is 4390h/p.

  • This is an SD70MAC, which CSX designates SD70AC. CSX never had any SD90MACs; the most powerful AC locomotive they have ever owned is the SD80MAC, which have a totally different radiator section and never visit this area. ALL AC locos on the CSX EXCEPT the ES44's have this lightning bolt, including the SD70AC, AC4400CW, and AC6000CW, which has two.

  • @TrainHistorian

Helps build up air faster and build up heat. Low idle to long with cold oil can damage a engine. Higher idle helps pump more oil to warm it up faster.

  • My sub-woofer was working overtime ; )

  • Awesome. 8D

  • It's a combination of pumping up air, and simply warming up the engine to get it ready for service. ^^

  • using real player sp you can download them and burn them to dvd format or a formatt that will play on computer

  • Yeah =)

  • I might actually be able to do that. I have a CD burner and a program that extracts and exports audio from my videos. Now, I just need some blank CD-R's. xD

  • Already subscribed, saved to my playlist.

Really great sound(two throttle positions), playing my song...

    Good information, really great work!

  • Thank you! ^^

  • that engineer shouldn't have gotten out at 2:25...what if somebody trainjacks that fucker? does it have lojack, or at least "the club'?

  • @OCASSROCK "The Club". LOL.

  • @OCASSROCK the engine shuts it self down after a certain amount of time as a fuel saving measure it is called a autostart feature that starts the engine and shuts it down. to answer your question NO it does not have lojack

  • I don't think anyone could jack an SD70MAC in broad daylight, in the middle of the yard. They'd be apprehended and arrested on the spot. xD

  • Only the newest locos have that capability. xD You're right, that idle is to die for. 8D

  • I especially enjoyed the part at 3:29 .

  • I don't see anything unusual at that point.

  • They must be a good loco because BHP is standardising on them to haul 35,000 ton ore trains in 120F heat in Australia where I live. They have much bigger "winged" radiators though (SD70Ace).

  • i cant stop listening to this thing, thanks for posting. What camera did you use to get such great sound?

  • I use a Kodak EasyShare M1033. I love it! =)

  • the diesel engine (710 G) I do believe is a 2 stroke for this SD70AC. unlike a gasoline 2 stroke only air is drawn in and pushes the exaust out. and just like in a four stroke it heats the air via compression and then the injector sprays in the fuel. So environmentalists can actually enjoy these SD70's...no unused fuel escapes and the exaust is relatively clean. I absolutely love the sound of the 2 stroke 710

  • Yes, you are correct. the diesel two stroke cycle is different than that of the gasoline two-stroke cycle. And it does sound amazing. 8D

  • @SpeakerPolice though the sound of a 4 stroke 710 isn't bad either though.

  • There is no such thing as a four-stroke 710 engine. xD

  • Man CSX is a great railroad! These Sound AMAZING!!!!! And you "Green" people need to chill! these are better than 100,000,000 trucks out there and yes it would be that many the railroads Haul Billions of tons! Without the railroads the US would be what it was before them!

  • I agree. ;)

  • Great video!

  • Thank you! ^^

  • He should Launch it!

  • Yeah. xD

  • These sound the best of them all I think

  • It is such a great sound!

  • Only one fucked idiots here, Baileygeep7

  • Why is it absolutely nothing? For those of us that enjoy the sound of a diesel locomotive idling, it was 6 minutes of awesome.

  • @SpeakerPolice I agree!!!

  • @SpeakerPolice exactly, nothing better then hearing pure 5000+ horses of diesel at idle.

  • Ist das ein Sound. Einfach herrlich!

  • @SpeakerPolice More more!!!! we need More!!!

  • I know, but every time I go back to the yard, there's only GE's D: The EMD's are hard to catch xD

  • Nice!

  • Thanks!

  • must be a detroit

  • It's not a Detroit engine. Electro-Motive builds their own engines; this one is a model 16-710G3. (although, the big EMDs are related to the smaller Detroits)

  • nothin beats hearing a train start up.

  • It's great. I have been growing fond of recording and posting locomotive startups lately xD

  • Ein Sound, der durch die Knochen geht ;-))

  • It' s groß =)

  • All I can hear is Wind noise

  • It was very windy that day. Most of the engine audio is lower frequencies, so if you're listening on laptop speakers, or low-quality speakers, you won't hear much else.

  • @SpeakerPolice sorry if I sounded rude, have you tried foam? It's a great video none-the-less, thanks for posting

  • It's no problem =) I was going to try foam, but there's really no way for me to attach it to my mic, as it's recessed inside a tiny opening on the front of the camera.

  • @SpeakerPolice fair enough

  • sounded to me like we was in 1st vs idling but his reverser was in neutral

  • Yeah, it's a similar sound.

  • high idle warm up?

  • Yes, they will also do that to pump up the trainline air for the brakes.

  • Great sound! Thats real power ;)

  • Thanks, I agree! =)

  • I wish I had a subwoofer on my computer

  • It is infinitely better with one. xD

  • man sounds like a rocket takin off...crazy

  • A wonderful sound... =)

  • yes indeed...we dont have trains here in newfoundland..so its a sound i rarely hear =(

  • Really? None at all? That's sad=(

  • yeah we had them back in the 70s and 80s...the government took them out in the early 90s...im not sure the reason why ...we used to have this steam train that ran cross island..called the Newfie bullet....i miss it..now all our frieght comes by truck..great for truckfanning =)

  • That's strange...I do wonder why. Are the tracks still there, at all?

  • noo they took them up when they took the trains out..there is still a monument ..the newfie bullet is presevered..along with a loco and plow

  • wait is that in canada and im sorry i actually live near a crossing an don get me wrong i love hearin all that horsepwoer but it gets a nnoying at 3 am

  • This is in Orlando, Florida. And I can imagine, if you hear it at that time of night regularly! xD

  • are just a rail fan or do work for the railroad

  • Just a fan. =)

  • NL? yes it is..and i know LOL..before i lived in newfoundland i lived in ontario...right next to the local trainyard...that was quite the pastime sit and watch the trains go by...

  • Sounds like fun!

  • That was awesome! Nothing compares to that sound...I barely had my speakers turned up and I could hear it on the other end of our house!

    5***** and Favorite!

  • Wow, really? That's kinda what I'm going for! =D Thanks XD

  • wow!!!!!! 100% pure power!! listen to the sound at 0.55 sec as it powers up....absolutely awe inspiring..... I want to take up train spotting as a hobby some day..what a find!!

  • Thanks! and I have to agree, there's nothing quite like the sound of an EMD engine. =)

It's not hard at all to start trainspotting, all you need really, is access to a yard! XD

  • For some ENGLISH 710 action, look up class 66, which is mainly frieght or 67, which although primarily freight, being a high speed locomotive (125 mph) can handle passenger work too.

  • I will have to look
