SC2K on the PC was soooo fun, i still play it today on my iMac, through Boot Camp on Windows 7 of course, and lucky me i future-proofed myself when i chose the more expensive version of SC2K, which was the special edition back in 1996 which came in a CD, and the standard version came in floppies.
if you have played simcity 2000 and now you play spore when you go to the centre of the galaxy on spore that spaceship apears..... oh by the way that spaceships name is.....steve!
great nostalgia,i remember building cities after cities, marvelling at all the great cities in the world,in short this game is rly good,it develops general knowledge and interests in cities arond the world, being from a single city country,im ashamed to say that almost none of my fellow countrymen know what is outside, its a poty, living in an ivory tower i guess?this game opened my vision to the world for me at a young age, thank you maxis!!!(:
ah the old games are the bests, in soundtrack, creativity, and many other aspects, no other sim city made me feel like SC2000, or SC 3000 the best sim citys ever maded.
If you mean Arcologies, you needed a very high population (I think 500,000) to construct them and it had to be far in the future, like 2100 for them to be invented.
I started playing this again during dull lectures. SC2K is a simple yet great game, easy to play and you can put it down then pick it up again anytime.
I don't mind SC4/SC3K:U; they have their own good points (graphics, cooler emergency dispatch, etc), but SC2K was mostly about the planning -- making you feel like you were a real mayor, basically ;)
Tell me about it, I quit playing this game a while ago, actually 9 years ago. Still everytime I watch these gameplay videos, I once a while play simcity 2000. Its like the game doesn't want to give up its originality. Its these unique aspects of the game that never leave your heart.
ya damn this was a good game. anyone want it? send ur msn name to alex.spalvieri@hotmail(dot)com and i can send to you for something. like friend request me.
its for computer and when i said like friend request me i ment FR me on msn so we can trade sim city 2000 for something and right as u open it boom the installer pops up. its virus free and works great!
@eckoguy72 I loved the "drive through your city" mode on that one ;)
Sure the graphics were poor but the idea of riding around your city was awesome! SC4 Rush Hour could have been also awesome if you drove in first person just like with SC2K.
Well, the PC version used MIDI for audio, so it depends on how good your PC's MIDI synthesis is. You could get a sound card with a kickass built-in MIDI synth or a good software synthesizer; either way, you could load different patches into your MIDI synthesizer to make it sound different.
Where can you find some patches? And how do I know if they're compatible with my soundcard. My sound card has SoundMax Digital Audio, does that make a difference in the compatibility in different MIDI patches? Or is it all the same? I'd like to know. <:)
There are many MIDI patches available online; just search for "download MIDI patches". Unfortunately, some of the better ones are not free.
I believe SoundMax is an integrated motherboard audio chipset, and those audio chipsets typically don't have hardware MIDI (MIDI rendering is done via software). In that case, you would need a good software MIDI synthesizer that lets you load patches, which might not also be easily/freely available.
Why does this sound different from the way I remember it? It's the same song, yes, but it's somehow off... maybe the Mac version was a little different?
sweet. I head the dos version and this sounds kinda familiar. Wanted to hear all the songs from sim city 2000, this is the first I found. I think I remember one from the PC version that sounds kinda like a WEEN song.
I also didnt realise that you needed electric to make the 3 sectors grow for a long time. I mustve been like 7 or 8(22 now) when I first saw this game at my friends house.
I love this song a lot. I was trying to find it on Sim City 4000, wich is the game i have now, but there is not this song. Thanks for putting it here. Yeah! Sim City is the best!
Oh my god. I used to play this game all the time, about 10 years ago. This song gives me goose bumps and reminds me of the first years in ground school. That was back in the days! <3
It's not your computer, the PS1, DOS and Windows 95 versions all had different versions of the same songs. And 95 had the shittiest. This is nice, but it's still not as catchy or clean as the DOS tunes (they were in .dll format for some reason O_O)
In the 90s music in computer games sounds like 80s music ^^
