  • WW I deserves an "epic" treatment on the big screen. I honestly think Jackson might be the man to do it based on this trailer. I wish to God he'd directed Red Tails.

  • I'm an American who is planning a trip to New Zealand because of Peter Jackson's footage. Where can I find this in full?

  • where can i see the original short movie complete?

  • Does ANYONE know how to get this on DVD? I cant find it anywhere.

  • I really really want Peter Jackson to make this as a full length movie now. This trailer whetted my appetite. I'm convinced that if anyone could make the definitive World War One epic of our time, it is him. It's been too long since we've had a proper, decent WW1 movie.

  • i want to be a new zelander.. is there any family where i could spend my holydays? ( please forgive my bad english). nice trailer btw

  • Just to be clear, it was "shot" in two days, not produced in two days. In other words, it took a much longer time to setup, cast, rehearse, obtain/build props, set up blocking for shots, all the post production involved, etc.. In other words, it took a lot longer than two days to complete. So, future filmmakers, don't be discouraged that you couldn't do something like this someday. Don't give up.

  • filmed in 28k, only in 480 p <3

  • @Pwn9Gaming looked this up for a class, is 4k same as 28k? My studies only showed 2k & 4k :/

  • @kryption82 The RED EPIC 617 Sensor/camera shoots 28k

I don't know if he had the cameras at the filming of this.

    :D

    And 28k is around 28,000 x 9,334

    lol

    the short answer is...no

    <3

  • @Pwn9Gaming No, it wasn't filmed in 28k, this was actually the first film to be shot on a RED ONE, an alpha version of the camera in fact. The camera had not been released at this time and the alpha model could just do 4k, at 24fps. This short was shown at the camera's launch expedition. And btw the Epic can do 5k at 48fps, not 28k...Look up RED on Wikipedia :)

  • @MitchAndo96 I know know, a noobish comment. But the RED EPIC 617 sesnor, completely different than the EPIC, shoots 28k look it up.

  • @davcas113 I find your comment about New Zealanders being "dumb" highly insulting and ignorant. NZlanders are actually ranked 4th in the world for english maths and science according to the world education rankings and we are a highly innovative nation. I bet you didn't know that. Who's the dumb shit now?

  • oh to be an extra in this ....

  • Mr. Jackson, Please make this film.

The story has waited too long to be re-told and the lessons re-learned.

  • Wonderful clarity of picture for the 460 resolution.

I don't know where the film is set (Ypres? Somme?), but it gives me shivers thinking Granddad was the one yelling "bayonets!", and what it means to yell it.

  • is this song from kingkong?

  • Why do a see several pages of comments talking about Avatar here of all places? Seriously what does this camera test promo have to do with Avatar? Also do we really need to bring nationality elitism here? Seriously shame on all you who look down on others and who put your own nationality at the top, the way I see it you're embarrassing your countries by using them as petty stepping stoles to boost your own egos. Please if not for your own sake at least STFU for the countries you claim to love.

  • what is the soundtrack called??

  • @SNFozzy919 Ah a sensible question if not a common one here and luckily an answer to it surfaced not to long ago. Ok the 1st part of the trailer is taken from a part of "Its Deserted" from the King Kong soundtrack by James Newton Howard ( I do believe if you start playing the song around 1:50 into it you'll hear the clip used in this trailer) the next track used in the trailer is "Dethroned" (I think its from the Instrumental version) by X Ray Dog. Enjoy

  • im going to download this because is from peter jackson

  • The songs are xray dog - dethoned and james newton howard - its deserted

  • it took PJ 2 days to make this. imagine what he could do with it within a year...

  • wat is this rated?

  • @WadddellStudios This is a short film that was made in two days, because Peter Jackson was testing a new camera. I do not think it has a rating.

  • Where I can watch the "full-length short movie"? Thanks...

  • We need this on DVD. And Peter Jackson Needs to make a full length Motion Picture about the war.

  • The full film is about 10 minutes long from memory and is brilliant. Shows an allied soldier chasing a photo of his g/f that blows out of his hand, and a dogfight where a pilot loses his mascot teddy bear. The trailer really doesn't do it justice.

BTW, Jacksons CGI on aircraft is at the point that the real ones can be in the background with the CGI up front and you can't pick it. The WWI air combat footage at the Australian War Memorial is a real eye opener. The CGI is nigh on perfect.

  • It's great to see old fashioned WW1 aerial battles with real planes, not the CGI crap we usually get.

  • I think you all just need to enjoy a short trailor which was shot in just 2 days with very little CGI, the only CGI would be the muzzle flashes and that would be it!

  • This short film was a test for the new RED One HD camera prototypes.

  • 1:34 what song

  • when does this movie come out??

  • i like the part where america joins late

  • @dumbcheese123 how come

  • doesnt seem like much story line to it.

  • @Kokoda144 Ya right dude! How can you tell by a 2 minute vid anyway!?

  • @KINGJADEX because i didn't see one person talk during the whole thing.

  • Does anyone knows where can i download the movie?

  • whats the name of this song

  • WOW portrays WW1 in all its absurdity.

  • what song is this? its awesome!

  • you know Jackson is going to find a way to make this an "Action/effects" film.... the trailer alone looks hyped up. :-(

  • Who's the cinematographer?

  • Landship owned that sniper!

  • While I still prefer the look of classic film, RED ONE looks fantastic. Very nice.

  • This was actually not a short film - and is not available. It was merely a trailer shot, using the RED ONE camera system (to display it's abilities). I would love to see a movie like this produced, but as of now, its vaporware.

  • Let's not forget Neil blomkamp's part in this.

  • Does anyone know where this Short is available in full?

  • @strangentertainment

It is a short, What you saw was the full film. Was made to show what the Red One digital camera could do.

  • @Wailwulf it means that the hobbit is going to be a very beautiful film

  • @strangentertainment when it will be in the 100th anniversary of ww1

  • lol king kond music

  • 1:05

only a monster could take that shot

  • RED ONE is cool, specially the how the effects and Landscape is portrayed

  • I want a red one camera system.

  • when does it come out?

  • I know that this is a worthless comment, but wouldn't it be weird, if they were having a giant fight like they were in this trailer and someone pulled out an AC-130? or Apache?

  • @isision Not weird at all, but fucking awesome!

  • The Sniper was realy suprisied by that metal box!xD

  • this was shot on the RED, it looks simply amazing

  • What is red one? and what is this? plz reply!

  • @comeondown123

RED ONE is the future of digital cinema IMHO

Go to red dot com for info.

This is the "camera test" Peter Jackson did on two early prototypes of the camera, back in 2006. The film (short) was shown at a few expos in 2007 to show off the new RED ONE camera.

This very moment, dozens of movies and tv shows and hundreds of commercials are being produced on Red One - including Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

  • red one will buy hollywood

  • The download link doesn't work. Where can I get the full version please?

  • omg the look on the guys face when he sees the tank is fucking hilarious!

  • Very similar music which plays this video X-Ray Dog - Dethroned

  • @AntonPanzer I love X-Ray Dog so much =) Got excited when I saw your comment.

  • @AntonPanzer well they used the same track for the King Kong trailer too, so makes perfect sense there...

  • @AntonPanzer same with a company of heroes video]

  • PM a link anyone?

  • i cnt get the download page to work

  • I want to see that because of red one :)

  • red one camera!!!! it,s the best!

  • Anyone Noticed that this used music from King Kong?

    Looks awesome though...

  • @HiveFleetDerilect

It sounds like from the spider pit sequence, while the music during the battle is from the trailer. I THINK the man who yells "medic" was in the movie.... maybe the police man at the end? It's been a while since I watched KK.

  • @knightflyte Its a bit of a mash up but the main part is from when they first step foot on the island and the rest is Trailer music used for various things. I think your right that the "Medic" guy is from king kong.

  • is this a recent movie of his, I never heard of it until now. Did it go straight to dvd or was it never completed?

  • @2oneessay

it's a short film directed by peter jackson

  • Is there an added title to this movie? I can't find it on Netflix. Or did it ever release?

  • i have my own personal opinions why the US can make films but it would just create a political feud, its just that Spielberg wanted Saving Private Ryan for Americans, especially for the veterans of WW2, now films like Avatar was widely accepted was because of the graphics and there was no nationality bias even though, the characters except for the navi were aliens, also there is the language barrier and culture barrier

  • well its kinda an allegory to the Americans taking advantage of the native americans

  • yes true, but isn't that what the French, Spanish, British and Dutch did when they discovered america?

  • @davcas113 dont forget starwars ;)

  • @davcas113 What exactly are you getting at here?

  • @Fwack0ff

that some people don't like certain films because they see too many political references in movie, Avatar was successful because of the special effects and 3d hence the rush for everything being 3d

  • @davcas113 , never mind what forces put men to war....the dead civilians, lost family members...profits of arms dealers...as long as the heroism continue....but there will be a price to pay ... one day. And that day is coming very soon. Those behind this curtain will be revealed. Who makes the political feuds?

  • @davcas113 "alien" means intruder, so the humans were the aliens in avatar...

  • @davcas113 There was an ideological bias behind Avatar though.

  • @SirDanielHayesMBE

yea you got noble savage mixed with green movement in there

  • @davcas113 im american and i can't stand Avatar.

  • @davcas113 yeah too bad the man who made this film is from new zealand lol. dumb shit.

  • @TEHWEEZY

ok, considering that I doubt you went a year ago in the comment section to even read what I was referring to, you shouldn't even comment, yes I know Peter Jackson was from New Zealand and this was also filmed in New Zealand, so again don't be an ignorant fuck and comment about something you have no knowledge of

THE MORE YOU KNOW : )

  • @davcas113 and avatar was not accepted by me.

  • @davcas113 btw peter jacksons from new zealand :)

  • Toy Soldiers...the movie!

  • looks interesting.

  • No FLYBOYS! No RED BARON! I want this!

  • Comment removed

  • @madorosh we would if we had the money that americans have for their movies...the most expensive canadian film to date is Passchendaele and it was only 20 million$

  • In response to Shadoweye, maybe more British, French, Canadian, and Australian film-makers should make movies about themselves and stop whining about why the Americans won't do it for them.

  • I agree that's it's always interesting that MAJORITY of these movies is about the Americans who always show up late in the war, and the movie almost portrays them winning the WHOLE war, when in fact they just more or less finished it. I would like to see more British, French, Canadian, and Austrailian based story line.

  • They had one with Mel Gibson way back in the day I forget what it was called but if you look him up on IMBD it should be there. It was alright I guess

  • @sundancekid9000: are you talking about Passchendale?

  • @sundancekid9000

    Gallipoli

  • The problem is that all war movies seem to be make by americans. Spielberg pretty much made WW2 about americans vs. germans in Saving private..., completely ignoring the fact that canadians, Frenchmen, British and Australians died in Normandy too. The question is: Why we Europeans buy those films??

  • Well let's not completly demoniz Saving Private Ryan it was a good movie. But your point still stands WHY? Well the only reason I can think of is the same reason we Canadians buy them, the graphics. the graphics completly outdo our own, on top of it all we become tired of trying to compete with the Americans especially when their movies come out better because they can put more money into them, and the Americans again disreguard our movies as "False Glory Films" or "False Pride Films"

  • @Shadoweye12 Canada can make just as good films as the US but the film industry is run by the government and is constantly trying to shove Canadian content down people's throats instead of just letting films be films.

  • @damnthisthin I agree, but unfortunatley to make good movies requires a lot of money, of which few people are going to contribute mostly because the ones who do have money move to the US, and the US has the best movie making studio in the world. The government doesn't so much make bad quality as much as bad funding, thus there is no competition.

  • @Shadoweye12 It's mainly because most of the studios in Hollywood are in fact international ones. Even directors from other countries often end up having their films distributed largely in the US. Roman Polanski, for example. Because of the studios' location, they wind up drawing a lot of attention towards the US. It has nothing to do with disregarding other work; however I don't completely disagree with you either.

  • @1965Channel thanks I guess, but that is definitely new information to me that studios are international in Hollywood, I never knew that, I had just assumed that hollywood is an american studio and just simply remains at that, but does do work on other countries history so that is definitly something good to know.

  • im not trying to be racist or anything but we just fought most of the war and the majority of the people who fought were Americans, British and Russia(not counting th Axis) that and we have really good green-screen

  • i think its funny to see the movies are always showing the americans winning the war and not the british of the french sor for bad english

  • I hope the American wins. If not he's liable to napalm something (joke). This film looks great by the way (not a joke).

  • eny 1 ho can tell me were 2 get the sound track from this ?

  • Sorry for interrupting your delicious conversation, i'd like to know where i may download Crossing the Line since the links on the right aren't working anymore. Thanks and, please, stop being racist.

  • I don't think it's available anymore, it's only a short test film and it's over 2 years old. I've looked it up on the internet but couldn't find anything about it anymore, apart from the information about the new camera. And it's not my intention to look racist, it's the anger of being repressed

  • @slayerfromabove & Genessender

Breaaaaaaaak it up you two. The rest of the world agrees that both of you guys are nationalistic pricks.

  • Sorry, but I enjoy picking on Nazis. They deserve the worst.

  • looks shit

  • ...

You joined in 1918, there was barely anything left to fight! the least fallen soldiers, god...

there is no culture of the united states because it is a mix of every other culture in the world, there are no true americans left, cause you butchered them all. there are only immigrants who have settled in the 'new world'

  • You're clearly ignorant of the "Kaiserschlacht", aka the Ludendorff Offensive. It was Germany's last great effort before the weight of American manpower and materiel become overwhelming. The Germans lost.

As for there being no true Americans left: We're all true Americans. But there are still millions of American Indians around. I think they'd be offended by your ignorance.

Also, your inability to spell telegraphs your lack of education. You should stop posting and read some books.

  • I know about the Kaiserschlacht, the Spring Offensive or Operation Michael. I've done a thesis about it in school, and therefor I also know that the Germans could never have won the battle, as their offensives of the previous years had destroyed the terrain, sharpened the Allied defences and exhausted their men and resources.

And about them natives, since when do you give a damn about them, you butchered them, drove them off their lands to claim them your own, it's sick how you abuse them now

  • Just googled it, did you? If the Germans could never have won, why did they start?

As for "them" natives, a lot of them are doing very well these days, what with their casinos. We butchered them and they did a lot of butchering themselves. Who used to live on the land your hovel is on?

  • I have it right here: my thesis about the great war, in which my great-great grandfather died. your question is rediculous, you could just as well have asked why you invaded Iraq when you knew there were no nukes there. And the Indians are doing great these days, but that's because they are completely independant of the US government, they live in communist-like societies, and you have nothing to do with it.

And my home is build on the land on which my family has lived for the past 2000 years!

  • If the US has no culture, why does the rest of the world insist on copying our clothes, our movies, our music, etc. etc.?

  • cause u're imperialists, it's called neocolonazation. After the industrial revolution in Britian around 1750, the world started to copy everything they produced, the same happend when the post-industrial revolution started in the sixties in the US, we don't want to copy it cause it's yours, it's just the best way to make fast money

  • Right! It's the way to make fast money because it's what people everywhere want to buy! Blue jeans everywhere, photos of Michael Jackson, Madonna and Britney Spears. American movie stars, American movies. Blues, Jazz, Rock 'n' Roll, Rap. American culture has conquered most of the world. People fight and die to immigrate here and get away from where they were born.

And here you are, sucking up on the American YouTube. If you really had any pride, you'd boycott it permanently.

  • As I said before, the Post-Industrial revolution in America in the late 1960's allowed America to produce goods on a massive scale, their economy had devellopped the most in the 20th century, as they had suffered the least from the wars. The European countries didn't have the money and resources. And the the imperealism kicked in: during the Cold War, America tried to gain influence over the entire world, seizing countries of their own before the communists could do so.

  • Doesn't explain why you're wearing blue jeans and listening to rap, does it now? The Nazis tried to seize Europe, but it didn't have Europe listening to polkas and wearing brown shirts, did it? It's sad that you can't get past your jealousy.

  • I don't like rap...

The nazi's tried to seize Europe by force, you try it by fake politics and diplomacy.

And I'm not jealous, I'm sick of u american gits feeling superior to the rest of the world because you invented friggin' cola, everything you ever learned has come from us, Europeans who were the bricks on which the White House has been built, and still you think you just popped out of somewhere and got the world on a silver plate.

  • Ah, you're a brit. That explains the your sense of inferiority and jealousy. And the White House was built by Africans, not Europeans. And when they get here, they're not Europeans much longer. And Indians don't live in "communist" societies. You're profoundly ignorant.

  • I'm Flemish...

You always have to put the rest of the world in boxes, don't you? god, I curse the 4th of July 1776

  • what?

  • Flemish? HAHAHAHAHAHA! You're a nationalist who doesn't even have his own country? Gotta share it with those pesky Walloons, right? A Belgian Nazi. That's -- sad.

  • where did you get the nationalist from? I said I'm Flemish, because if I said Belgian you'd call us a shitty country and think I speak French. Flanders and Brabant have existed since the Roman ages and, although repressed multiple times, our people has always lived here. Why is that nationalistic? Because we love the land on which our ancestors have lived for thousands of years? why does that make me a nazi? I don't think Walloons are pesky, they just have more economical problems than the north

  • this looks beautiful! the red cam all the way

  • I think if Jackson did a film about Gallipoli it would be awesome. He's already entertaining the idea. It wouldn't be like Peter Weir's film, but rather span the whole battle, where Weir's film only spanned a little portion. Jackson said he would also present it from New Zealand's side, and not just Australia.

Maybe in preparation for that film, he shot this short. Who knows.

  • Face it Europe, You need our help to finish your wars. You start them, but we finish them.......

    GO USA!!!!!

  • How do you figure that? The Great War did not need teh United States to intervene. Most modern historians contend that the US' contribution was negligable.

WW2 was a war that the US couldnt stay out of!

US history has largely been about staying out of European wars.

    So explain please?

  • you make it sound like the US never wants war, but the reason why you didn't want to help out in World War I was that the Isolationists didn't want to get entangeld in European politics, so we wouldn't mess with your's in South-America, in the end the cry for war from the common people was too load too ignore. And you would have done the same thing in World War II if the Japs wouldn't have been first to strike.

Admit it, it's just luck you joined in, we we're just lucky you didn't let us rot

  • The majority of US citizens did not want to enter the war, that was the ticket that Woodrow Wilson won on.

Wilson wanted to get involved but very few Americans did. The sinking of the Lusitania in which some US citizens were killed created a pretext and the Zimmerman telegram was the final cause that triggered US entry. Otherwise the US would have been content to let the europeans butcher eachother as the phrase went. (sic)

ww2 was the same FDR said he would stay out. US didnt want to ...

  • (con't)...enter. It was regretable in many americans eyes that the Germans were being so brutal however it didnt concern the US citizen.

Geo-politically a few inside the US knew it would be bad for the Germans to conquer europe. It must be remembered thouth that the US never declared war on Germany, only on Japan since the Japanese and American Empires were going to clash. Germany declared war on the US hoping that Japan would declare war on the USSR- a fialed gamble.

  • US declared war on Germany 12/11/41. You're loud, but you're ignorant. "Fial."

  • You cite one war of involvement and that is somehow indicative of the typical US expeireince?

Also I believe it is spelt 'Fail'

  • Just copying your misspelling and your own argument. And I believe it's spelled "experience."

  • and u joined in ww2 you self becuse japan attack USA at perl habor. and german said they wanted war from u.

  • lol, germany would have finished it, had not usa interviened ;D

  • If only this was a full length picture, it would probably be as amazing as Saving Private Ryan.

  • Peter Jackson is a great movie Director but Steven Spielberg Beats him by that much-----so close Pete. Go Mexico Go Israel Go New Zealand.

  • its funny how all americans love king kong and lord of the rings. but then diss peter jackson. a movie like wanted? cos thats something aint it...there is no history in a movie like that. its like ww1....the yanks beleive they won the war. they only joined in 1918...

peter jackson is very good at what he does. NZ pride

  • Have you ever heard the quote by William Blake "To generalize is to be an idiot."?

And the US entered in 1917.

  • there's a diffrence between declaring war on a nation and actually fighting it

  • @thatdownhillguy Every nation who entered played there part in that war... except Austria. They were a burden for the Germans.

  • No one of these links work to download the movie.

  • You dont half talk some shite...l am sure Peter Jackson is worried what the likes of you think...

  • seeing that it was film, produced and created in new zealand, that makes perfect sense that its an american movie.

  • You obviously dont know anything about Jackson. He hates hollywood. He hates the american film industry. The way him and his fellow new zealanders made this movie is the farest away from hollywood or america you can get mr. Watch Beowulf. Thats a really crap american turn around.

  • FANTASTIC movie when is it out??

  • the Great War(WWI)

  • mmm, RED

  • *pfft* what are you French.

  • You might want to get a bit more info on this before you say something like that. This is not so much of a movie as it is a camera test, its 15 mins long and was shot in just 2 days. It has a simple plot which mainly focuses on providing entertainment rather then facts regarding WWI which is the setting theme. After all, it was just a camera test but Peter Jackson decided to make it a epic camera test. You misplace expectations with this short film since you view it as more then it is

  • Wasn't it sort of a promotional thing for the cameras being used?

  • i love war movies!

  • German dude's like "LOL, FTW!!, wait..." BOOM

  • Good video, best music.

  • I'm pretty sure Neill Blomkamp partially directed this as well, why isn't he credited?

  • On IMDB, both Jackson and Blomkamp are listed as the directors. It was written by Jackson, though

  • And who the author of music ?

  • second part is by X-ray dog, but it's older than the film itself
