  • i wasnt at this concert but im pretty sure eddie's guitar melted after that solo =)

  • and if you think sammies songs suck then you are not thinking straight. this song right here is deep..at the same time dave is singing veautiful girls, ice cream man, hot for teacher, panama, california girls etc. those were great songs but more fun.

  • been a vh fan since 81' and have seen sammy and dave in concert. sammy is lyrically deeper and much better live. better voice by a long shot. he is a rocker and it shows.

  • マインオールマイン!!

  • King Eddie rules

  • Sammy always delivers 100%, the best frontman they ever had!!!! I've been to DLR shows and everytime he was half in the bag, struggling to finish the show without falling down.

  • "STOP LOOKING OUT, START LOOKING IN, BE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND, STAND UP AND SAY HEY THIS IS MINE ALL MINE"

Words to live by. LOVE this song.

  • song sounds so sick cuz eddie's playing the guitar instead of the keyboard like on the album version!

  • Van Halen..this song...and yup, we have reached..the "happy place" yet again..

    Oh yeah..that works.. ;).. lol..

  • This song kicks ass.

  • 3:06

  • I'm 51% Dave 49% Sammy. Dave's a better front man but I think Sammy has a better voice. He can sing DLR songs, but I can't see Dave singing Van Hagar songs (like he ever would). But Dave is not a ballad singer. He sounded damn good on the reunion tour. It's just too fucking bad they kicked Mike out! That's a black eye for Eddy. If Mike was back, & somehow Sam & DLR could share the stage on tour...holy shit! Wha ta show that would be. Nobody would even come close.

  • @JensenDR5150 I agree with you man. I wish more then anything though that Anthony would somehow show up for VH their next tour as a surprise guest.. The roof would blow off the place.. Can you imagine?

  • they were awesome then. WOW

  • Sammy es un pedazo de cantante y quizas Dave es más espectacular, pero peor cantante

  • My God I Love This! Kick-Ass Awesome! Then again...VH always is ;)

  • Wow, they're really firing on all cylinders here.

  • i dont understand how people could where tights like that i mean wouldent it hurt?

  • Haha, still cracks me up right after the solo when Sammy realizes he needs to sing and runs back quickly to sing late

  • @TOPmusicman8 .... Yeah... fucking Sammy!!!... So full of energy!!!.... in those years, Hagar looked like a fuckin` athlete... I mean.... like a singer and frontman!!!

  • Damn thats a tight band...

  • According to Sammy Hagar, none of this recording is live. They messed around with it so much they had to go back and re-record almost everything in the studio and dub it. Still a great band though

  • @jjim0437 according to Sammy's book, it's the "Live:Right here, Right now" live album. This recording is not from that album or concert!

  • oh God, I remember this song. and yeah I think Sammy Hagar bring VH into whole new level of awesomeness.....too bad he's not with them anymore

  • @payutubee Got that right!!!! Hagar gives his fans 110% on stage, you'll never see him struggle on stage. DLR was drunk everytime I saw them.

  • Thumbs up if you think this live version sounds better than the album version!

  • you guys better give me somethin!!!!

  • eddie's solos went to crap after sammy joined

  • Donald Duck Shirt FTW

  • sammy looks so young..and as akways, lyrically masterful

  • Fantastic lyrics.

  • after 25 years....still get goosebumps when Eddie breaks out into that solo! EPIC!!

  • THIS was the REAL VAN HALEN... in Eddie`s words (1986),... and I`m agree. I mean,,,, what quality in musicians!... what a fucking energy!!!... Great lyrics!!!

This is real music... not all that crap in radio nowadays.... this world is in decadence...

  • @carensaldi

There was decadence in 1989 to, in Lifestyle in Pop Music (look at the Budget of Jacksons videos)

Ok in 1989 there was no Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber...

What i really want to say is there is still great music these days for example my Fav, guitar player Paul Gilbert

check his Songs: Bliss, Radiator, You Kids

and American Beauty by Mr. Big ( from their new CD )

  • @Zappafan1980 .... Yeah, shit has always existed, and good music too, but these days, this new century... the 90% in music is crap... I`m tired of all this electronic-pop-hiphop-rap-plastic-puke!!!.

Maybe because I`m getting old (41)... but that`s why I`m here in youtube.... watching all my old bands....thanx for the tip on Paul Gilbert (great player)... just waiting for the new Chickenfoot material.....

  • @carensaldi

Believe me it has nothing to do with age i am 29 and started to seriosly listen to music in 1998

I was 17 my Friend learned Guitar and he gave me a CD called Images and Words by Dream Theater

i thought OMG this guy plays better then Slash

and then i learned about Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Andy Timmons, Matthias Eklundh ( of Freak Kitchen )

    Kiko Loureiro

    Thankfully we got youtube

  • @Zappafan1980 ... Hey, good for you... you know about good music!!!... but you believe me, I`m getting old....

I like Zappa too, and all that weired things he did...

  • @carensaldi

Yeah Frank Zappa is the Man, he kind of invented complex rock music by combining it with Jazz and Classic

My Favorite CDs by him are Joes Garage, Roxy & Elsewhere, Zappa Live in New York, One Size Fits All

I am very happy that his Son plays his music Live i hope i can see them this year or so

Check Black Napkins 1977 on youtube,

Zappa plays Zappa also made 2 new Live CD s

  • Japanese fans are great. VH (with Roth or Hagar/Red Rocker/Cabo Wabo) still sell a lot of records in Japan.

  • 2:22

  • This is absolute peak EVH, and all the true afficianados know it!

  • unfortunatly, sammy has put on a lot of weight since this was filmed

  • nice pants sammy

  • After watching videos like this one and stuff from the DLR years(early and reunion), I can't understand how people can slam these years. The band is so much tighter onstage and Sammy never seems to be struggling with his vocals! The band just delivers!

  • @dferris7767

Exactly. Roth was good in studio, but Sammy was the all round frontman who always delivered vocally. :D

  • @dferris7767 Sammy doesn't struggle with vocals. =-)

  • @dferris7767 The two eras are different and some people can't handle different. I am a VAN HALEN FAN and also enjoyed VHIII with Gary. I like all their stuff. To me, Van Halen is the brothers and I appreciate gifted artists and how they change and evolve over time. Let's face it, most Van Halen fans are like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite... stuck in '82.

  • @dferris7767 The band sounded sharper with sammy---srry dave fans---Dave delivered in the studio, but he was too into drinkin/ doin the "Rock God" thing on stage and didnt pay enough attention to his vocals

  • @dferris7767 Well it's because Dave is about the party and the show first and the music and the singing in particular second. I love all VH but am partial to the original with DLR but I'd be a fool if I said I disagreed with your statement. They were so freakin' tight with Sammy. I saw them on the OU812 tour and it was amazing. Mine All Mine is one of my fave VH tunes of either era of the band.

  • @dferris7767 The tape doesnt lie---Van Halen was miles better live with Sammy---You could argue that their "Material" was as good or better with DLR,but live, they rarely delivered,no thanks to DLR's goofy antics and his habit of not singing 1/2 the lyrics in the songs. With Sammy, they were a lot sharper live, and thats a fact.

  • @brianbela But you'll always have those DLR suck asses that will never agree. The only thing they pay attention to is the party factor instead of the quality "musically"..

  • @dferris7767 They'd rather have a pretty shitty singer because David Lee Roth gained a lot more range in his later years after Van Halen, he really wasn't that great with Van Halen, Eddie was always the biggest thing with the band, and as long as he is Van Halen, it is good, not like anyone could use the name Van Halen without him without getting sued anyway. lol

  • @dferris7767 Definately. Pity the songs suck.

  • awesome music

  • eddie was an alcoholic, crack and heroin never came into the picture

  • @veeaitch EVH was (is?) also into cocaine.

  • if only eddie couldnt destroyed himself with crack and heroin....

  • Van Halen is about the only group I can think of from that period that continued to rule.

  • i think his guitar melted after that solo

  • Badass, rockin', in your face, steamroller of a song! I love the sound of the live drums!

  • damn this is amazing the whole band is in the zone

  • man sammy looks a lot older now

  • @stan2001mn considering this is over 20 years ago, he doesn't look that bad...

  • @stan2001mn Agreed- but he still kicks ass on vocals!!!!!

  • i guess as far as concerts in japan go, none of the japanese chicks throw their panties or bras up on stage. ...that would be awesome to see sammy pick one up and throw it over ed's head as he is hammering away on his axe.

  • man alex is such an awesome drummer

  • This is a great song! Only 4200 views?

  • Someone should do a guitar tutorial for this song.

  • van halen always sounded better live thats when u know a band is good same for queen

  • @dojOdRiFTeR i agree with you but i wouldn't say "when a band sing better" i would say when a band sing at least the same as in the studio, that means there are no sound effects envolved just talent.

  • @Leogalvanhalen true but van halen r eally do sound better live their studio stuff is good but live is just amazing

  • If only Van Halen was still properly together.

  • This is live, there is a backing soundtrack though particularly the "soft" part or chorus. They still kick ass though - and Eddie can play anything on his album, Sammy could really sing anything on their albums.

  • Kiss Alive! was also exposed as not really being live, but you can't blame them for trying to put out the best product to the paying customer.

  • @plofus No kiss just sux, this is waaaaaay past them....

  • is this the real audio?, this man sang the same way as in the studio, wow!!!

  • @Leogalvanhalen Look up Van Halens vids on here from Toronto 1995....almost the entire show/songs are uploaded. I believe youtube user esalutti(think that's how it's spelled) has the best uploads. This show was also aired on tv here in Canada. I was at this concert and the sound was awesome, so was the FUCK tour in 1992. In my opinion, Van Halen with Sammy had great shows, musicianship, great sound etc..except Eddie being wasted on the 2004 reunion tour wasn't the best

  • @Rockywaves73 They were on their A game here as well but I agree about the Toronto concert, thats the one I usually check out & not just because Sammy isnt wearing yellow stretch pants in that one,can you believe he was already in his early 40's on this tour, the man is ageless.

  • Coolest solo on the cd! I love this song

  • Was thinking same thing about the background vocals - love the "soft parts" in VH songs, "Light up the Sky", etc. too bad not live, but even worse now that MA is out of the group. Their live background vocals now really suck with Eddy and Fats Jr. singing...Mike got screwed.

  • @poijof Mike didn't get screwed. He's in Chickenfoot and I guarantee you he is very happy!

  • Is that a fact? I heard this for the first time a week or two ago and was actually wowed by how sweet the backing vocals sounded. I'm thinking, "Mike, Ed-good job!" But pre-recorded huh? Bummer!

  • @NYVoice they filmed this for japan television, i have it on vhs with the original tv breaks. they fixed and edited the show. yeah listen to the background vocals and they are the same tracks as the album. they also played other songs that are not on the tv concert like "Cabo wabo" & "finish what ya started".

  • @NYVoice they most likely added the album background vocals later at 5150. i have another night's show from japan 1989 on mp3 and the background vocals are very live. haha.

I grew up on this show along with "live without a net" and never noticed all the "fixes" till years later. im a musician and really listen to this stuff.

  • This ain't totally live.

The background vocals are from the album.

You can even hear Sammy's voice singing them at the end!
