  • I've done my bit to help older people access the internet as it's always struck me that they are a group who could gain the most from it. Plenty of ways to save money, keep in touch with family and with so many libraries shutting a great source of information and entertainment. Even for people with eyesight or hearing problems there's plenty of accessibility features to get them on the net.

  • It's a great thing you're doing, Peter. They do say the older you get, the more you need to be online! I have an 84 year old in my family who has been using the internet for many years. I've found showing people what they can see online has far more of an effect than telling them. I have sent him lots of youtube links on subjects that he is interested in e.g. motorshows, technology, travel etc. He was encouraged to see your channel! He's not quite hooked on youtube yet but I'm working on it! Xxx

  • we need to get the old folk laptops that are easy to use ... netbooks etc. Most of the time people are terrified of using a PC because of all the spam and phishing.

  • Good work chap!

  • I appreciate your efforts. If my grandmother didnt suffer from horrible arthritis id consider helping her out in the same way. Shes a writer and a thinker and would have greatly benefited from having the internet in her home.

  • help! i'm a 61 year old singer who has a job to get work because of ageism.check me out on you tube at 'gypwin' or 'gentleman john'.cheers

  • I'm truly sorry it took me so long to get back to your channel and to this. You should have seen my mother's eyes light up when she had her first experience with a website. I'm actually tempted to post it as a video response...

  • This is the third video of yours I am watching, and as subscriber number 47.362 I feel privileged to be part of your very large group of fans. Your advice to Ruth is very good, hopefully more senior citizens will watch this. With a little bit of help and assistance, they would find so much enjoyment on the Net! Plus being able to communicate with their dear ones who are far away in real time! Take care, Peter, God bless you. Giovanna :-)

  • hes like sayin "hey old dude buy a freaking computer and get into gaming" :)

  • What's that little ringing!

    Ahh!!

  • You're so lovely

  • it would be great if senior citizens learn to use computers because i think that they would be active and that, i think helps them to not get diseases like alz haimer because they keep their minds busy

    well is just my opinion

    btw i love your videos

i wish my grandfather learn to use msn

    lol

  • You are like a breath of fresh air. I love your videos.

  • Ruth, make Geriatric1927 give you a couple of quick lessons in web surfing ... it will bring the world to your parlor. You'll absolutely love it!

  • Wooo!!! Old people ROCK!! XD

  • Nice! I hope they get one so they can see their family and 'Reminisce' in history or whatever they enjoy.

  • this was a very well made video, well done you old farts.

  • In that case YOU will be a "perv" ie OLD one day or are you never going to get old??

  • well done on this video,i am 63 my mother in law is 88 , we love our pc's & the net,it is not to late to learn, dont be afraid, there are lots of people who are willing to help both young & old, just ask

  • That was brilliant film making.

I think some of the crass comments below show a stunning lack of 'savvy'.

    Thanks.

  • Good for them! Wish my parents weren't such technophobes

  • We should all be so lucky to be a silver surfer!

  • This is a featured video?

  • boskiddyfiddler...you picking on old folk now? You scumbag.

  • Leave this guy alone. He's just having a good time : ]

  • My grandad is 82 and has set up a wireless network, surfs the web has a web site, age should not stop you.

  • Well my dad is 76 he uses microsoft Word and internet - in a limited way trough google - it was quite simple to teach him that- but still even that very google search box gives him almost limitless possibilites of entertainment. Still compared to other peoples comments it seems he's quite young ;)

  • 81 years is well impressive. You are getting some feedback on your microphone/speaker system though.

Separating the two more would help reduce that

  • i wold love to hear about old war storys maby u can halp me find some true war storys

  • hi mate have a look at the angry german kid video on you tube its dead funny i think

  • Keep up the good work Mr 1927. We are all going to be there in age sooner or later. Respect to you for embracing the tech and spreading the word to your octogenarian friends.

  • Keep up the good work Mr 1927. We are all going to be there in age sooner or later. Respect to you for embracing the tech and spreading the word to your octogenarian friends. love the tie

  • l think it would be a good idea for all elderly people to have a pc it will keep the mind stimulated and intouch with relatives in oversea's.

also they could meet other senior citizens awesome video :)

  • ok its me matthew in your year im going to kick your ass then p.s. you sad o for the porn bit

  • 'My name is aiden hardy'- you relise its probly sum1 who doesnt like him pretending!

  • I've beat you to it! I've been introducing and helping older folks like yourself with computers and the internet for 4 years now. I noticed the service to cater to them was lacking. I now have a huge customer base of silver surfers who computers I build and maintain, and fix.

  • Yeah dont worry geriatric my grandad is a computer hacker so he knows how to use them shall i get him to hack your computer so i can prove it to you

  • exciting stuff!

  • lol

  • Hello there geriatric. My grandfather is 79 and still very active, he goes hiking with a friend most weeks and videos their excursions, they are always very funny. They go on like they are still in there twenties. He then uploads his videos to his PC edits them, adds music text you name it. Myself im 28 and he knows more about PCs than me. He also holds regular web cam chats with his walking parter. Im all for silver surfers, why should age come into it.

  • web cam chat's ??????? sounds a bit pervy to me...

  • small minded idiot :D

  • i was a joke you tit...durrr...at 28 i thought yo might no that...prick

  • Delightful.

  • Hi Peter, I really enjoyed your video. What I found interesting is the way Susan was able to open up to you about computers. I think someone younger would not have given her adequate time to explain herself. It's a shame that you weren't allowed to interview the older men and women at the day center. I would assume they did grant you the interviews due to ethical considerations. However, I would suggest you contacting academics from universities near you. You may be able to involved in research

  • It's inspiring to see YouTube being used by people with a level on experience, insight and intelligence that is so apparently lacking on YouTube. It's amazing just how many of those who are quick to ridicule, deride and flame others can't even write properly.

  • It's a shame to see some of the stupid comments on here, but i suppose its to be expected now.

    Good video!

  • im with you, i kind of feel sorry when i see it i dont know why?

  • Great video, keep up the good work. I am a silver surfer and have 2 blogs one of which I operate as a business. Age is no barrier to learning how to use a computer and the internet.

  • This is really interesting. My nana uses the internet and emails me regularly, she has also just learnt how to text message! She can only do these basics but I know that is still a lot more than many of my friends grandparents...and even parents!

  • I know i am.

  • Typical Morons Posting stupid commen's, whatever happened to respecting your elders

  • inspiring. Ignore the senseless comments below. very good point. 5 star.

  • inspiring,

just like the video called 'giraffe wife' watch it!

  • i dont think he can hear the ringin tbh, pitch dies with age so he probably doesnt even know what youre all moanin about haha ! give him a breakkkk

  • agreed.

  • Woah, what's that ringing sound?

  • My mom puts herself down when it comes to computers.mainly because my sister inlaw tells her its to hard to learn.:)

  • I think that a lot of older people do put themselves down when it comes to "new technology"... It's all trial and error and everyone has to start not knowing anything, at the end of the day the more time you have available the quicker you can pick something up! Like Ruth said, the grandkids are/will all be online, if they show her how then they could chat online and that could make contact more regular and more direct with the kids. It's not beyond anyone, it's just having the "guts"!

  • What some of you need to realise is that it's quite easy for the older generation to give up and die especially when they lose a loved on. The internet gives them a new opening in life particularly the disabled.

Keep it up Silver Surfers. Most of us respect you and value your experiences and comments.

  • Amazing and Awesome go going!

  • I think its brilliant that you are trying to persuade other elderly people to get connected, maybe we'll be seeing more vloggers around your age soon.

  • Shame you couldn"t get inside the old folks home! If the people inside were prepared to talk to you then you should have been allowed in.

What are they trying to hide?

  • i think you're doing a great service for older people.

  • Your comments seem to suggest that you have some sort of fantasy envolving elderly people.

  • good work geriatric1927

  • Gaaah what is that squeeling noise?!

    I enjoyed this video :)

  • some sort of interference probably :P

  • Sublimanal messages.

  • fair play mate 5*

  • My grandads a computer whizz! Im jealous - hes got this awesome computer and I have to keep phoning him for IT help :(

  • so happy the Elders are here, we need you to keep the youngans in check and your general wisdoms of kindness and gentleness like this good man are very very welcome. Happy days

    all being love

    charlie

  • It is great idea to stay in touch with people..!

And technology is nothing to be feared, computers are very intuitive now days..

I just feel bad about a lot of the ignorant people online, haters & such like..

  • This is a great idea. I communicated with my dear grandmother, now passed on, by handwritten letters. She was hard of hearing, so the phone never worked well. This was only 2-3 years ago, and I know if someone had encouraged her a bit more, she likely would have taken up computers.

Thumbs-up to you, mate! Good luck in the UK and with the AARP!

  • This guy with the glasses on must be an alien, because every time he goes near his computer it makes loud hissing sounds lol.

  • Fuck me! that bitch must get a painful neck watching tv in that position, her neck must be like a fucking cork screw lol.

  • thats one big tv. that would have cost a few thousand

  • Jolly good job.

  • I am 21 years old and am a IT administrator at a bank an we have older employee's that do not knw how to work a computer very well and do not want to because of some of the reason mentioned, but i think wat ur doin is a great encouragment tool. Technology is not goin away and will influence many basic functions and aspects of all our live and Computer literany is important. So keep doin wat u do.

  • you rock!!

I wish my grandparents would get on the net :)

  • im kinda horny from this....

  • wtf lmao

  • hu?

    how much do u cost?lol

  • Great video geriatric1927. You're an inspiration : )

  • boskidddly - you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • hi - thanks for that. great to see one of the older generation using youtube. quite sad to see silly disrespectful comments, i hope you just ignore those as they are not worth listening to. good job, very interesting x

  • A few posters have been very disrespectful, but thankfully we can ignore those no-marks.

    Thanks for the post, geriatric1927!

  • Nice one, hope you had a good time in the UK! I just thought I would let you know, you can get magnifier screens that you can fit onto any monitor, and they'd help with the vision porblem, I think. And of course you can adjust the text size on any webpages you want to look at. Anyway, great vid!

  • What a wonderful video.

I think what you're doing not just with this video, but all of your videos on YouTUBE is fantastic.

Keep up the great work and continue to inspire. ^_^

  • great story

  • Great video "Grandpa"! I think it was very true how you said 'you pay for a connection to a server to get onto the internet' because most people assume that you just pay to get straight onto the internet which shows you know a lot more about computers than a lot of younger people :) Keep up the great videos! Did you feel the earthquake the other day? I felt it even down here in Buckinghamshire!

  • aaahhhhh whats with the high pitch

  • I wonder if silver surfer's play computer games?

  • leave dis guy alone at least he s having a go imagine you at that age in like 60 years time trying to drive a hover car

  • hover car, lol! good point, a lot of young people seem to think that they'll always know everything about the latest technology...But we're all going to be overtaken by our kids and grandkids who'll tut and say how easy it is! And even if I'm 100 when they bring out hover cars I'll be darned if I'm not going to give them a go! XD

  • i gtta admit that people in any age group should make, and be able to make, there own descionions on this topic

the noise is feed back, the mics too close to his speakers

  • It's nice to see people your age using computers, my grandad is 83 and he also has started using one!

  • Its a great idea working with people in a residential home, an escape from loneliness. unfortunately the gate keepers arent necessarily the best people to make decisions. please dont let them stop access. The benefits would out way the problems, with a bit of sensitivity it could happen. Access to Aged !

  • What's that screeching noise!? Argh!

MO: I wouldn't recommend trying to get the elderly interested in computers. I've seen middle-aged people struggle for months trying to adapt.

There's just so many racy things on the internet, it could be lethal if an elderly person clicked on the wrong link BA.

If an older person wants a computer, by all means. They should just have a techno-savvy person on hand to help them figure it all out.

  • high freqency noise.

  • :O i have that ET thing

  • You're an idiot. Never speak again. Cheers.

  • that's at master579 by the way : )

  • I can only assume you are a horrible person

  • chek my channel

  • no thanks

  • My dad got his first computer at 84, now 89 and still surfing.

  • Well done !

  • What an outstanding idea and an excellent vid! Thank you!

  • What a good idea ... to try and get the older generation into PC use.

I'mm 38 and have really just felt confident over the last 2 years.... and yes, my 10 year old knows more than me when it comes to computers.

On the other hand - my partner taught himself and has now moved on the building PC's & making music too.

It's a case of 'not as hard as it looks'!

    Bev

  • Interesting, due to the fact that I never thought the elderly wanted to have anything to do with computers! My grandmother thinks they're too complicated, but seems like some of them have got the hang of it afterall!

  • PLEASE WATCH IT .

    VIDEO SEARCH : jerry24003

  • I like it, verry intresting.

Always wonderd what elder citisens thought about this.

  • Nice. Respect!

  • if you find it boring, piss off.

  • Hello Sir.

You are ex RAF I presume with your near slip of "duff" before you said 'gen' explaining the silver surfer advocates brochure.

No offense intended. I am over 60 and make extremely good use of my computer. i also run a sheltered housing complex and am trying to interest my tenants as well

  • Great video

    Thanks

  • this guy is 5 years younger than my granpa. for real.

  • i don't wanna grow up, i'm a toys 'r us kid.

  • Danger at 1:08 if you are wearing headphones.

    Good video though, mate.

  • Wow, you weren't kidding.

    Ouch!

  • I found this quite interesting. I am a 43yr old support tech. When I was employed, I considered my specialty to be assisting those who required very patient care. People who felt lost and very intimidated by computers. People who hoped to get through life, w/out the aid of computers, but were now, forced to.

I hope to see more of these interviews. thx

  • This is the first of your videos that I've watched. I think it's a wonderful idea. You've helped opened my eyes to reasons why our elders, who aren't familiar with computers, appear to have no interest in learning how to use them. On a positive note, an elderly friend who is 85 yrs received his first computer as a gift from his nephew. He does have difficulty at times with it but has come a long way and seems to enjoy it a lot. I will check out your other videos and spread the word. Take care.

  • Thats a totally annoying whistle sound. geez. Great thoughts. =] take care

  • Very good presentation Peter. This is an excellent idea to keep in touch with loved ones especially in case of emergency. Computers and the internet is really the modern day ham radio because you have the ability to communtcate with people all over the world.

  • Don't peddle your lies to us, especially not here.

  • I have tried to get my older relatives interested in using a computer and surfing the internet. They are just too impatient and grouchy.LOL. This is a good thing. Goog luck.

  • It's E.T.!

  • Why not buy a computer from QVC on a month trail. If you don't click with it, just send it back for a refund.

  • I'm 73 and use the internet to run a criminal empire.

  • what was that high pitched noise?? was it one of those special noises to stop teenagers congrugating (dunno how you spell that!!!)

  • feedback!!!!11

  • the guy at the start of the vid should present a tv program !

  • Thanks for sharing this geriatric1927.

  • We younger people think we understand computers but in 50 years when we are old there will be quantum computers and we will find them difficult to understand.

  • and the point in rob saying this was ?

  • I was stating the fact that people shold not mock other people because they do not understand.

  • with all due respect, please turn down your hearing aid, it is really high pitch and quite off putting, nice video though.

  • bless em

  • Its funny because whilst the old folks today can obviously show an interest in the internet in the future there is probably going to be more silver surfers than any other user group.the internet in the perfect tool and dare i say it the perfect medication for tired old limbs but alive minds.

  • damn is that an ET statue in the background!

    mannn im scared now

  • So does you face.

  • lol you harsh bastard

  • Well done! Keep up the good work! :)

  • well done uv got some balls coming onto youtube at ur age well done

aryt video not for my liking but anyway good video on how old ppl struggle on them

cya good luk in the future

  • geri, I want to say I think this is interesting topic and one worth looking into as you are. as you pointed out computer is good for camera communication w/ family. maybe highest regard for seniors. google is good as a quick encyclopedia. they may have to decide if perhaps only those two things would make it worth it for them, as they truly are not a necessity. unfortunately modern times would have one almost believing that they are.

  • Hi Grandad!

  • I wish my Grandpa could use his computer without moaning at me all the time about how it "Doesn't work".

Still I laughed at 'silver surfer' I was expecting some fantastic 4 action XD
