As far as gothic metal goes I'd have to go with Sharon Den Adel from Within Temptation. It's not my favorite metal band but I don't think anyone could argue that she has an AMAZING voice. But with a heavy metal band (My usual genre) I'd go with Otep Shamaya fro Otep.

He said that Evanescence is in the same genre as his band, but going in a more commercial direction. Just because they started commercially and was very well know in the mainstream doesn't mean the band is not metal.
