the heart thingy you got in the chest is a really useful item for you becuase if you put it on, instead of losing HP you lose hearts when you take damage!!!

I found him to be surprisingly easy. In Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance you needed to beat him twice and he was a lot more powerful.
