  • wow... i mean if you put me in galarraga's spot, i would be soooooooo mmaaaddd!!! i mean even though the umpire admitted his mistake and he understands he made a bad call and apologized, that still doesnt mean that he gets the title of a perfect game.. he gets the title of an ALMOST perfect game js

  • Just because he is sincere in his apology it doesn't make it a perfect game...but yeah this missed call is history now.

  • very mature

  • @HmongLovepho very fag

  • @romo366 romo? lol very fag....

  • damn stop feeling bad for the umpire he screwed it up! but that happens and he did an great job of apologizing and admiting that it was a mistake! and i also liked the way Galarraga reacted!

  • Trust me, that call is going to haunt Joyce much more that Galarraga. Galarraga seemed over it pretty quickly. Joyce will probably carry it to his grave.

  • This is painful to hear. The reporters are just asking him the same question with different words.

  • in my history of baseball this is a no hitter

  • it true there benn 20 perfect games tell my the other 20 umpire how call the last out of

those perfect games but jim joyce name will

    live forever

  • Jim Joyce sucks. He probably ruined Gallaraga's life.

  • @1millionandone Gally got a car the day after, i'd be happy as hell!

  • @1millionandone Over a perfect game... lol I doubt it. Sure it will probably be Galarraga's only chance at a perfect game, but his performance will be remembered, and Joyce and his maturity will be far more remembered than almost any perfect game... heck I don't even remember 5 out of the 20 perfect games there've been... I think Randy Johnson pitched one, Cone and Wells pitched one each, and Roy Halladay and Mark Buehrle and Dallas Braden, that's it. I don't remember the umps.

  • they should just call it a perfect game because it was...

  • made him more famous for missing the call to be honest

  • ump should still be executed

  • at least he handled this maturely, that's why MLB players voted him the best umpire

  • Wow, even the Indians player was like, "Oh my God!"

  • Sports is a game of challenge and sometimes, well most time there are errors being made. Jim is stepping up to the plate and admitting his blown call. There are allot of umpires that dont have the balls to admit when they are wrong.

  • Red neck bastard I don't buy his crocodile tears... If Galarraga was blonde that mistake wouldn't have been made.

  • @cpjuliansp You have no better argument so you bring ethnicity into it? Weak.

  • @manballs12 ya i was high when i commented :D

  • Okay, they brought review into football. Time to do it in baseball. This would have been an excellent place for it. And I can think of only one person in the world who would have been happier than this umpire to have that call overruled.

  • @Astrobrant2 exactly, and the year they removed it a controversial play happened

  • The funny thing no one talks about is that Miguel Cabrera had no business fielding that ball. It was going right to the second basseman.

  • @AnEternalEnigma

That's because it is a first baseman's job to try to cut the ball off if he can get to it. This goes the same for a 3rd baseman. If the ball is hit towards shortstop but he can get to it, he has to cut it off in order to have the ball delivered to the bag quicker. I played baseball at the AAA level. I know this. Besides, the point is that he was out.

  • if its one out away from a perfect game, you should call it safe no matter what

  • That was reall a big mistake and it would have been a perfect game!

  • Being a homer of the Tigers and seeing this... it makes me sad but Gallaraga got more popularity out of the blown call than if it was a perfect game! I respect Jim for admitting it and frankly feel bad for the guy, he was a great umpire in years past... just one bad call and your names known around the world.

  • @chowder2100 your an idiot. The umpire feels bad bc he ruined a perfect game. I'm sure the ump feels worse than Armando. At least in Aemando's heart he knows he pitched a perfect game even though this game won't be remembered.

  • @vizibes11 This game will be remembered and still has been remembered, i'll never forget this game.

  • If it's that close, I know tie goes to the runner, but you call the out.

  • @dobravery Tie Doesn't go to the runner. It states clearly in the rule book that "runner must beat the throw" Tie is not beating, therefore a tie is an out.

  • @zlicious080 Thanks for the explanation. All the more reason to give the benefit of the doubt to the pitcher and the fielders in that situation.

  • Jim joyce shouldn't call the batter out just because it was a bang bang play. Thats just stupid. At that level you don't just give away outs unless you truly believe it happened.

  • I actually umpired for a while, If a play was going to be close I would actually close my eyes and listen. I trust my ears over my eyes in a situation like that I listen for what comes first, the players foot on the bag, or the ball in the glove. A coach once screamed at me for it but for me it was the best way to get the call correct. I also had coaches scream tie goes the the runner, I told them to show me where it says that in the rule book and I would gladly change the call They never could

  • @zlicious080

That's retarded, closing your eyes? What if it's the first baseman's foot hitting the bag? Better yet what if the first baseman had to extend and he wasn't even touching the bag and you heard the catch? You can trust your ears with your eyes open at the same time.

  • Also Jim Joyce is usually ranked among the top umpires in the game. I respect the fact that he was able to say that he got the call wrong. I truly believe that it was Bud Selig's blunder in not reversing the call that was truly the wrong thing to do. They went back and reversed George Brett's go ahead homerun when they called him out for too much pintar, they could have given Galaraga his perfect game, but anyway you look at it, the guy will be known for throwing a perfecto.

  • paid off.....

  • @flitty35 if he was paid off why is he almost in tears?

  • I just love how Armando Gallaraga didn't go berserk. He kept his cool and acted like a real professional. Props to him.

  • Jim Joyce is a good umpire and he just made a bad call.

  • He manned-up to his mistake. Shit happens to all of us. Some of us can learn a lot by Joyce's truthfulness.

  • @MikeMikeyYo how dipshit?

  • I feel sorry for this guy. He is so remorseful. Don Dinkinger was NOT remorseful and was defensive in 1985. This is how an umpire SHOULD act when they blow it. NOT like Don acted in 1985. A true class act.

  • I have so much respect for Joyce..he admitted that he screwed up and is more of a man because of it. Instead of backing up and making excuses he admits and apologizes. Nobodys perfect its a human mistake and it sounds like he didnt mean to do it. I hope he keeps his job..

  • @buckeyeslee711 What's amazing is do you think the NFL would apologize? You think Mike Pereira would apologize if they screwed up? Never. This man deserves all the admiration in the world.

  • Whole situation could have been avoided if baseball would get into the 20th century and use replays to review calls.

  • @dannyjerome0 I understand the sentiment but I disagree. For the commissioner to have that sort of power would put the integrity of the game into jeopardy.

  • @WannaBeANerd Yeah you're right about that. But, when I see him call the All-Star game a tie, I feel like he does what he wants anyway.

  • Mistakes happen guys.. yes its a huge mistake but hes human? I bet most of you make mistakes daily so why is he getting so much shit about it. Hes a great umpire hes been doing it for years and has made ALOT of great close calls.

  • ok. he was clearly out and this is a terrible call. but partial blame should go 2 miguel cabrera. that ball was clearly ment 4 the 2nd baseman. he wood of fielded it and thrown him out, no question. wen cabrera goes out 2 get this, he's losing time because now he has to get balance and set himself 2 throw. in addition 2 this he has 2 wait til galarraga gets over 2 first base. this causes the batter 2 hav a little more time 2 get 2 1st. but i still no that this was a shit call.

  • dude... baseball is a sport, and sports is an objective thing you see..

as an umpire, how is it your job to "THINK" something went the way it went??

It's your job to "SEE". Stop it with it that "I thought" nonsense!

  • Even if he was safe, call him out! Give at least ONE tiger a perfect game! haha

  • Fake interview, an MLB ump/judge won't curse on an interview like this guy, plus he has to get permission to give the interview. Has anyone ever heard an Active ref/ump give after comments on a call, NO. Either way MLB doesn't have replay, so they can't sit on the couch and watch it 1,000 times to see what happened like you or me.

  • @dcshipman The interview wasn't broadcasted; cursing is perfectly fine.

There is no rule preventing interviews without the MLB's permission; you just pulled that out of your ass. Banning speech would be a violation of the first constitution amendment. Players will give multiple interviews daily. You know nothing about baseball, do you?

And are you kidding me? This was after the fact. After watching the replays, he realized he blew the call.

  • @dcshipman WRONG! This is a real interview.

  • This is why baseball is dieing... even when there is something exciting in the game (which doesnt happen very often) the people in baseball are to stubburn to make things right and change the way they do things. this could have all been fixed by simply looking at the replay and making the right choice. Stupid poeple in charge of a dieing sport.

  • yes I'm more impressed that the pitcher could smile than the perfect game. he's got a nice smile too.

  • 0:52 thats what sports is all about. the guy had the ultimate dream stolen from him...and he just smiled and shrugged. gotta tip your hat to him

  • YOU DID KICK THE SHIT OUT OF IT YOU... You CALM DOWN inhale exhale... WHERE THE FUCK IS MY INHALER MOM

  • This asshole is stilling calling plays. ANd he's full of shit. He knew he was safe before seeing the replay. He didn't miss it. He was right in front of it and everyone saw it.

  • @AdognamedOp You're such a bitch. The difference between Galarraga and you is that Galarraga was perfectly fine with the blown call, the blown call that messed up HIS game, and you're the one that is crying about it.

    Real professional, champ.

  • I think even the Cleveland guy was thinking he was out.

  • hey dont feel bad everybody makes mistakes dont go trollin ppl get a life

  • Even guys in Indians dugout were like Wow

  • fuck the media. they always drill the person with shit questions. like c'mon let the man fucking eat his dinner. i feel bad for him :( i hope he felt better by paying for half of Galarrga's new car (description)

  • Comment removed

  • He was out but In minor leagues he would have been safe

  • jim joice is ugly

  • people make mistakes. its all good bro, you got health, your job, and some pussy.

  • i feel bad for the umpire :(

  • @FosterFuel ....you shouldn't.

  • @underkiller911666 kid whats wrong with u

  • @FosterFuel he's way too experienced to make that call, it ruined galaraga's career.

  • @FosterFuel I don't

  • @FosterFuel I dont hes a fucking idiot, who ruined a kids perfect game, there is no reason why he had to call him safe, hell even if it was bang bang and it turns out it was safe, he should have been ready to call the out. bottomline

  • @FosterFuel why?

  • @FosterFuel why woud you fell bad for him or are you him go away you stupid umpier

  • @FosterFuel me too nobodys perfect

  • at least he admitted that he missed the call. any other ump probably would stick to saying that he had got it right and would refuse to look at a replay.

  • Even the Indians base runner looks like he couldn't beleive he was called safe!

  • @dancinkindofguy even their players in the dugout were shocked.

  • Comment removed

  • That Ump Is A Dick -_-

  • A play that close... that would decide a perfect game... should automatically be an out.. i could see if the runner made that bag by a linedrive to the outfield... but a play that close the ump shouldve just called an out... that was the biggest moment in that pitcher's career... sent down the damn toilet...

  • @Wrestlefan1 THANK YOU!!! That's what I keep saying. Whether he was safe or out, you should automatically give him the out.

  • it should haave been...

    galarraga: mad

    joyce: happy

mcdonald (indian player): happy... but it was the complete opposite

  • "this is a history call.. and i kicked the shit out of it" lol hahah

  • I would of called out anyways.

  • U know I respect Jim Joyce. Yeah he messed up something big but he apologized and he admitted he got the call wrong. AND he felt awful about it. He's still a great umpire in my mind and a very classy man for apologizing and admitting he was wrong.

  • @dinney123 Glad there is people that share the same view on that subject. Gal threw a perfect game in my eyes, Also Joyce still is a amazing Umpire

  • @dinney123 So right. I respect Jim Joyce too. Wish I knew where to write to him and be supportive. What year did that happen. I'm older and forget easily. RN

  • shit happens

  • This is why MLB needs to get in the 21st century and have instant replay reviews.

  • Hello all. I am a fellow Detroiter, and I was watching the whole game. When I saw that un-believable call. I was stunned not only as a part, but as a whole. When I came to my senses about the call, it was kinda belititleing to watch. But you can't blame an ump like that. They are under alot of pressure and call's like this happen all the time. But the only reason why this is still on going is because it was for a no-no. But good job Gallaraga, you are a no-no in my mind and will always.

  • even the runner didnt wanna himself to be safe

  • What about all the strikes that were actually balls? Give me a break, this game is all about human error.

  • He said that he missed a big call of baseball history but this "almost perfect" game made baseball history if that makes sense.

  • I guess i get selig's argument for integrity of the game and not using instant replay all the time, but damn he himself said too, yes it was a blown call, it ought to have been a perfect game. So why doesn't he overturn the call? That guy wont even get a no-hitter marked down.

  • I really feel for Joyce, even though I'm a tigers fan, I know mistakes happen, it's human nature! We all make mistakes, nobody is perfect! Yea ok it was the final out of the game which was called safe, yea he blew the call, so what do you want to do KILL him? He's human for god sakes, just let it go! You can always forgive, but you can't forget, that's also human nature!!

  • helen keller rolled around in her grave because even she saw he was out

  • I feel bad for this guy, he's being really good about it though.

  • fuck him i dont buy that BS he wanted to fuck over galarraga. Now hes tryin to be all sappy and get sympathy

  • @Kryptkiller2 he made a mistake, he admitted it, get over it.

  • They should call it the first "Imperfect Game" in the history of baseball. Not the "Almost Perfect" game.

  • If he was aware of what was going on, why did he call that runner safe?

  • what i respect about this is that the batter i completely forget his name but he has to run to the bag but he hates for him self for "beating him to the bag" so i agree with taylor losu

  • if i were the guy on cleveland, i wouldnt have tried to beat out the throw

  • Dang i know this was just a mistake its natural but he cost that man a perfect game thats big mess up

  • look jim joyce is a great umpire but he missed an important call. thats all there is too it

  • People always bitch about steroids affecting numbers, but things like ballpark sizes and, you know, bad umpiring affect things as well.

There's been countless bad calls left and right.

  • what would have happened if Jim Joyce wasn't the 1st base umpire?

  • @danmulb any unpire with decent eysight could have made the right call

  • it was a horrible call but he said he was sorry, stop talk shot about the man! he f up! he's a human everyone makes mistakes! and still we all know it was a perfect game!

  • WOW! that Ump Must be so dumb if a little league got out by 10 feet Jim would call him safe

  • he f*** blind

  • I think the Clevland guy wanted to be out.

  • @taylorLosu yah he did. u could tell tht when he was called safe, he put his hands over his head in shock

  • @taylorLosu He should've never ran so FAST!!

  • You Jim haters are obviously "perfect people". Jim's a class act with a heart of gold. I'll bet Jim wishes he was as perfect as youtube hecklers.

  • at least he can say sorry unlike that soccer dumbass who robbed USA

  • @yoyoshotstuff ROBBED USA? u see when England kicks the goal lampard hits it off the top beam goes in by 4 feet bounces out NO FUCKING GOAL. Almost as bad as that 'hand of god' gobshite

  • @designatedrapist I honestly think even if that goal was accounted for england would have lost the game, they didn't play better than Germany and lost focus.

  • jim joyce is a fucking dumbass and a asshole i would of just given him the perfect game what a moron he deserves to have his life ruined now he made a mistake ya u fool u did make a mistake but u dont deserve forgiveness JUST GIVE HIM THE PERFECT GAME dipshit

  • this ump is a fuckin retard

  • Sorry, but I can not resist posting this line from Jim Joyce's masterpiece here:

"A Gallawghurs argaumunt. This is the petty lipoleum boy that

was nayther bag nor bug. Assaye, assaye! Touchole Fitz

Tuomush" --Jim Joyce, Finnegans Wake, pg. 8.

  • I love the very quiet and subtle Blackberry text message alert sound in the background at 1:43 haha

  • THIS UMPIRE MUST BE FIRE OUT... AND DEDICATE HIS LIVE TO PLOW HIS MISTAKES!!

  • did he say he "kicked the shit out of" the call??

  • In the words of Donald Trump....YOU'RE FIRED!!!

  • WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING THROUGH HIS MIND!!!!!! THE UMP THIS TIME IS ACTUALLY BLIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It kinda sounds like he's eating dinner.

  • @ARCNSPUDS i think he was eating dinner. dunno where tho

  • @gaJoo97 he was eating dinner? u dumb fucker he was at a press conference stop being so fu cking childish and retarded hahah he was eating dinner hahah i made a joke haha, shut the fuck up you fucking moron.

  • @norjak71 Dude are you that fucking stupid? I've seen plenty of people eat at press conferences. People went to where he was and asked him about it. Watch Jim Leyland once in a while you asshole. He eats a lot of the time at press conferences when they go into the clubhouse and ask him.

  • @TheTigerfan99 dude. your an idiot. he wasnt eating, yeah..after he blows the biggest call of his career he orders a steak and eats it. d umb fucker.

  • @norjak71 Lol go fuck yourself. What can't you hear the pinging? What do you think that is? Genius.

  • @TheTigerfan99 i dont gee, you hear pinging and hes automatically eating. yer such a tool. yer beyond a tool dude, lets blow the biggest call of your career, but before your press conference lay out some nice salad and maybe a ribeye to munch on. ya fuckin idiot. he was in a press conference in front of media, not in a private office like leylands. jackhole.

  • @norjak71 learn how to spell and get a fucking life. I read all your comments and all you do is pick on people. Your a man to talk trash on youtube but not a man to say it to someones face pussy.

  • @TheTigerfan99 its youtube faggot bitch not a spelling bee, and im not man enough to talk shit to someones face? shoulda been in the lower decks at the tigers rays game today when i walked down in the 7th inning stretch and screamed at leyland for being a fucking pussy ass manager and was asked to leave, our team is fucking pathetic and all the fans are so fucking blind. GO TIGERS WAHHh. were a fucking joke. absolute clowns, i ripped the shit outta the gay ass fans cryin about it to. faggot.

  • @TheTigerfan99 all you do is pick on people..wahhh wahhhh wahh. god your fucking pathetic, i only pick on people who are very deserving it, and you sir, are a straight fucking MORON. you totally deserve it. as well as leyland did, and every pussy ass fan who had a problem with me sayin what i had to say. leyland jus turned around like a faggot pussy and pretended to not hear me. was fuckin hilarious. what a bitch you are. grow a pair faggot. when you learn something come back okay?

  • @norjak71 Wow you are one hard ass you know that. I so wish I was you. If your supposed to be a "Tiger fan" then you wouldn't do that. I don't have a pair? Pretty bold coming from a guy who sucks dick for a living.

  • @TheTigerfan99 if i was a real tiger fan i wouldnt do that. lol your such a pussy. leylands a pussy bitch who cant manage a team if his life depended on it, he deserves what he got. and sucks dick for a living? what are you 2? fuckin faggot.

  • @norjak71 Really cause he's the reason we got to the 2006 world series genius. Fucking idiot.

  • @TheTigerfan99 no hes not, isnt it funny how the only reason we got in is for winning so many games in the first half? does that sound familiar to you? our little second half spirals, he doesnt play small ball baseball hes an idiot, he doesnt steal, hit and run, sac bunt, he always leaves pitchers in to long or takes them out to early. that 2006 team was handed to him on a silver platter, what the fuck have we done since. NOTHING. learn something and then come back retard.

  • @norjak71 Lol I'm not sticking up for him or nothing. In fact I agree with everything you say. The Tigers have speed they can and could use like Curtis Granderson, Austin Jackson, Guillen before his legs went downhill. I agree he takes pitchers out to early because I've seen it where Justin Verlander has given up one run and then take him out in the 8th or 9th. We almost went to the playoffs last year but he choked. They won't fire him when he always has second half troubles.

  • @norjak71 let's see there was 2007 when we were doing good up until the last two months. There was last years last week choke. But they won't fire him. Let's not forget his idiocy when he put Jose Valverde in a 6-1 ballgame vs the Red sox IN THE 8TH FUCKING INNING and he nearly blew it. Trust me I'm not denying that Leyland is a retard cause any tiger fan by now should know that after 2008 and last year.

  • @TheTigerfan99 at least we can agree on that.

  • @gaJoo97 He also sounds like he's crying too.

  • ump you did the right thing by apoligizing but everybody makes mistakes i have felt bad a bout stuff but you need to let it go and move on if any thing you made this guy famous so really this a learning experence it was a hard call everything goes really fast so i hope you feel better and move on

  • @martermasher

yeah this play is going in the record books anyway aha!

i respect joyce's sincerity. a real man admits his wrongs. shit happens

  • @martermasher i agree but people arent letting this go

  • Comment removed

  • ...im pretty sure galarraga feels worse than him...oh my god just retire like you can say hes honest and shit for retiring, but you should NEVER miss that call, no matter the circumstances, hell I may have not missed that, and I am FAR from a mlb ref

  • Honestly, there's already been 2 perfect games this year (I think) and this is the only one you here about. They got him a Ferrari or some shit. This ump did this guy a favor by taking a hit.

  • @matcpn You only hereabout this game because Was a perfect game With a bad call...¿how many times in baseball historyyou saw that in a "perfect game" and with a 27 OUT?....and did not was a Ferrari was somethig worse a GMC car...stupid!!!!!!

  • @matcpn - A perfect game is a perfect game dude. The other two weren't talked about bc they weren't blown. He got a Ferrari bc he just got screwed outta making history. And don't sit here and tell me Halladay's perfect game wasn't talked about for days bc it was.

  • @kngjames83 I'm just saying, years from now Halladay's perfect game will fade in with all the others, but I can guarantee you that no one will forget the perfect game the never was.

  • I love how people who have never met either one of them are some how more upset then Galarraga is.

  • i do feel bad for him, but I mean come one a PERFECT GAME!

  • GO TRIBE!

  • wow thx for at least apologizing

  • The Perfect Game that never was.

  • It's a shame all around, I think it will be easier for Galarraga to get over this than it will be for him.

  • @egkg75 please.. please watch the video of Galarraga's respond before posting this kind of comments! There's no more humble respond than Galarraga's!

  • @bellelimon I don't understand your problem with my comment. I'm just saying the Ump feels horrible and it probably eats him up inside because it's his fault and theres nothing he do to fix it. Where as Galaragga and everybody else knows he actually pitched a perfect game. So what do you mean by this kind of comment?

  • Es algo increible...arruinar el juego perfecto de Armando!...Sera que puede dormir el umpire ahora?.

  • Armando's foot was obviously on the bag but there is know angle that shows that Armando had possession of the ball before the runner touched the bag.. I'm not sure about this one.. Armando seems like a great guy.. I feel sorry for him.. He deserved it for sure..

  • What a JACKASS!!!! Get his OLD ASS OFF THE FIELD!!!!

  • @bowlingguy3185 Your a fucking idiot. Its a human error.

  • HUGE blunder of epic proportions. At least he knows how much he screwed up the call though. Sounds sincere to me. People making this about anything else like a racial agenda is ridiculous. Galarraga deserves his perfect game & Joyce knows it. The biggest ass in this isn't Joyce though it's Bud Selig. Because Umpires screw up all the time. The damn MLB & Selig has full right to make the correct call in this situation. And from every sound of this Joyce wouldn't even attempt to say otherwise.
