  • If I am no

  • Uh bob you need to hit "apply"

  • which phone do you prefer the LG revolution 4G or the thunderbolt

  • @quantamEVA I prefer the ThunderBolt by a small margin. They are really pretty close in performance, but the ThunderBolt has a kickstand and the Sense user interface.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Respond to this video...

  • what does 4g do anyways?

  • @thesoccermaster101 4G does faster network download speeds. You can connect to the Internet at speeds like you get on your cable modem at home. Just today, I got a speed of 13.5 Mbps on a DROID Bionic. That's 4G.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • nice vid u should do a revieww on some games for xbox360

  • what the heck? and we'll use that one. best part. :)

  • Great reviews Bob keep them coming. I'm either gonna pick this up in a couple weeks or try and wait to see what's going on with the HTC Vigor. Your review helped take me away from everyone who was pushing me to get an I Phone. Great review and thanks:).

  • Wich phone is better in your opinion? Incredible 2 or thunderbolt?

  • @alexinter7 In my opinion, I prefer the ThunderBolt, primarily because of LTE. LTE is a joy if you have it in your area.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @alexinter7

To be honest this look like a beefier Droid Incredible 2. I own a incerdible 2 so this phone is appealing but as it look you cant lose out with either one. but as noted 4g is aplways a plus.

Verizon contacted my and told me because 4g was coming in my area i was eligable for a special 4g upgrade. I been leaning hard on this phone since the new Nexus relase date do not seem in sight.

  • i love it when you say "yahoo" lol

  • The newest update fixed the boot screen and not only made it look a lot different and much better, but also enables you to mute it if you don't want the thunder sound. :)

  • #WINNING

  • in all the parts of this video... cont the times that he says "steaming"

  • Hey Bob,... you've got some sexy hands there. You lotion daily, I bet *wink*

  • @MrsYoungcookie Sometimes twice a day. *wink* *wink*

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Do you have to pay extra just for 4G on top of your normal bill?

  • @MrNerveDamage At the moment, I don't think there is an extra charge for 4G. However, it's best to check with Verizon for the most accurate plan pricing info.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • I see the weather is for Reston. Is that Reston, VA?

  • @flarn2006 Yes, Wirefly has offices in Reston, VA, and Largo, MD.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • the internet is nothing special on these i have an lg optimusm from metro pcs and they are exactly the same internet speed!

  • Can the screen be changed from a preloaded skin to a picture. for example if i took a picture of a cat, could it be used as the wallpaper?

  • @Blkjackben Yes, it can be changed to custom wallpapers.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • how about the thickness of the device? is it alright?

  • reminds me of the htc evo shift? idk whyy

  • what kind of a shitty review is this? you didn't mention my most important concern: BATTERY LIFE

  • @xoloxum Did you watch our ThunderBolt battery life video? We have a whole video about the ThunderBolt's battery life.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly my bad, didn't see that video

  • hey can you set this phone to orient on the homescreen

  • @walktroughmasters12 Not sure what you are asking. Are you asking if the home screen can be set to rotate when you rotate the phone? If so, I don't think there's a setting for that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @Wirefly. I am coming from an LG Dare that I only use for texting and phone usage. I am thinking of upgrading and this will be my first Android phone. I would like it more for having access to medical stuff (nursing school). Is this a good phone for my needs or should I go with the HTC 2 Incredible?

  • @wirefly if I already have the unlimited data plan on Verizon am I gonna have to pay extra for the 4g service?

  • @diegotorresnator You'll probably have to ask Verizon that question -- I hate to give you the wrong information for something like that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @diegotorresnator no u dnt , the 29$ for unlimited data is for both 3g and 4g phones

  • @diegotorresnator no..as long as you have a smartphone plan..you are "grandfathered" in which means you will not be charged. After july 7th, only people who do not have a data plan, will be charged if they decide to switch to a data plan..all in all you are GOOD..no worries

  • I really like the thunderbolt but i want a phone that does netflix. Does this phone have netflix, if not what phones on verizon do? what about a tv feature?

  • @BeastMaster500 The Samsung DROID Charge and LG Revolution definitely have Netflix. I thought the HTC ThunderBolt did as well but it would have been something that's been added after the phone launched. However, I have personally tested the DROID Charge and Revolution with Netflix and it works.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • How does this phone compare to the droid x2 ?

  • @garxerbrooks A very big difference between the ThunderBolt and the Motorola DROID X2 is that the T'Bolt is a 4G phone and the X2 is 3G. In favor of the X2, it has a 540 x 960 display, while the T'Bolt is 480 x 800. I like the DROID X2 quite a bit but once you get a taste of 4G, it's hard to go back. If there's no 4G in your area, the DROID X2 is a contender.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Comment removed

  • @wirefly Thank you for the advice. I know now that id most likely be better off with the Droid X2 due to the fact i doubt we have 4g here yet.... I was also looking into getting the Nokia E71 from straight talk but i doubt that would work either because of the lack of att towers around here. Just looking for the cheaper phone in the long run. Thanks again!

  • hii, is this phone still available?

  • @greenluvzyouh The HTC ThunderBolt is definitely still available, and still an excellent phone.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • BEST PHONE EVER.

  • I have a Verizon iPhone 4 and I'm going to trade it to a friend for a thunderbolt and I already have unlimited Internet do I have any other charges I should be aware of? Idk you confused me lol

  • is there an extended battery for this?

  • @iiitsfuckinme A number of companies make batteries for the ThunderBolt. Keep in mind that you may need a different back cover with a larger battery. You might check with Amazon for a selection of batteries that will fit the ThunderBolt.

Wirefly sells an external battery pack called the Jolt 3600, but it is an external power pack and not something that fits in the phone.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Misslead or lead you astray not misslead you astray

  • which phone is faster? the droid incredible 2 or the thunderbolt? thanks :]

  • Bob, I'm trying to decide between the HTC Thunderbolt and the Droid Incredible 2. which one of these phones do you think is the best in the long run? I'm going to be stuck with one of these phones, so I want to make sure I choose the right one. As of right now we do not have 4G in our area for Verizon. Not quite sure when we should be getting it.

  • @courtneyslaw Verizon is building out 4G pretty fast, but many rural areas probably won't get it for quite some time. I like the size/weight of the DROID Incredible 2, and it has a nice camera and internals that are about as fast as the ThunderBolt. The T'Bolt comes with MUCH more memory, and that has value. If you think 4G won't happen in your area for a couple of years, I'd probably go with the Incredible 2.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly I'm guessing you'd say get the Tbolt right now if, for example, Verizon is rolling 4g into my area in a few weeks, haha.

  • @zgates I dunno... it depends on how badly you need a phone. If you're on Verizon and LTE will be up in your area soon and you need a phone right now, the ThunderBolt is an excellent choice. I might actually prefer the DROID Charge, however. In you can wait a few weeks, I'd like to see how the DROID Bionic is.

    So... it depends.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • what if porn popped up and he was like" and i was masterbating earlier as you can see so pornhub came up" in that monotone voice lolol

  • ahahahaa this guy is so old

  • @slashbslashasil Careful... it kinda grows on you.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Thanks for uploading this video. I found it to be very helpful.

  • that thing is just absolutely steaming hot

  • Is it safe to assume, that unless I want the 4g aspect, I should stick with my Droid Incredible?

  • @Ge0vone The HTC DROID Incredible is a good phone. The ThunderBolt has 4G, a bigger display, much more storage, a kickstand and a front-facing camera... the DROID Incredible doesn't have those, although you can buy a 32GB microSD card to top up the DROID Incredible's storage space. Only you can decide if you need/want any of those things. In the meantime, the DROID Incredible is a nice phone -- people here love 'em.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly does the 4g sim card cost anything

  • @MrGjsz You have to pay for a data plan if you get the ThunderBolt. That data plan will include 4G (it's required) and that will get you the SIM. In other words, you will be required to buy a 4G data plan. With that plan, the SIM is supplied.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly Yea, cause the reason I said that was since the features you covered in the video, I have on my Incredible

  • can u make a video playing the game doodle jump it only 99 cents lol ^^

  • @Blade6455 Maybe we should make an Angry Birds knock-off where you get cows to make piles of manure. Then you shoot the manure at evil cats that are drinking all the cows' milk. We could call it Angry Turds.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly lol

  • how much does this cost in the market?

  • Can you IM with it?

  • @quickguy99 Yes.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly I have a mytouch 3g slide and a 2.2 froyo update just came out for it. But when i try to root it, it doesnt work. It worked with the 2.1. Im not sure if its the update but i think its a high chance. Can you please explain. I would greatly appriciate it.

  • @obig2 Sorry... didn't see this until right now. Unfortunately, I have never rooted a phone, so I have no advice for you. I suggest that you ask your question on a dedicated Android blog, such as Phandroid or AndroidPolice.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Simcard is free from Verizon when they activate your phone. Also Skype with video chat is available for thunderbolt online. Just Google it, download and enjoy!

  • so do sim card or whatever come with it? and if it doesnt how much is it? Thank you. Great reviews btw

  • I would love to get this phone but which do you prefer better, the HTC Thunderbolt or the BlackBerry Bold?

  • did slacker come with it?

  • @Wongoose24 Hmmm... good question. Unfortunately, I'm on vacation at the moment and not near the ThunderBolt. Maybe someone will come along who has the phone and can check for you.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @Wongoose24 yes...slacker does come with the thunderbolt

  • @steve0rama28 actually no, i bought one but slacker is free anyway

  • I believe if you put the phone in silent mode, the opening splash screen will be put on mute!

  • I heard that skype doesn't work on this phone, is this true? If so will they fix this issue in the future? Very nice review! Very helpful :)

  • @Alyziaa That's true... Skype does not yet work with the ThunderBolt. You could try using video chat apps like Tango or Qik, both of which are free downloads from the Android Market.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • the mobile hotspot will be free until may 15th and then it will be 20 dollars extra on your bll

  • @wirefly The xperia play will be a "global phone. It has already been launched in the U.K and other places. I have seen reviews and they all show a Sim card slot at the back so does this mean it will be able to be unlocked for a GMS carriers like T-Moible and at&t.

But thank you for answering my questions

  • @obig2 It's true that the Xperia Play will be launched around the world. However, that doesn't mean that the version sold by Verizon in the US will have exactly the same features. Out of many phones that it sells, Verizon has only two or three that accept SIMs for GSM operation. I simply don't know if the Xperia Play will accept a SIM... we don't expect to get one for at least a couple of weeks.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly But in general if a verizon phone like the sony erricson xperia play which will be coming to the U.S has a SIM card slot can it be unlocked if it is not 4g

  • @obig2 If a phone has GSM capabilities (such as the Motorola DROID 2 Global for Verizon) and you get an unlocked unit, then it can work with T-Mobile and AT&T SIMs. It's just that the ThunderBolt does not have GSM radios... the SIM is only for LTE and unlocking the ThunderBolt will not change that.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @obig2 In my experience, Verizon phones generally do not have SIM slots. If a Verizon phone does have a SIM slot, it is either 1) a "global" phone, or 2) an LTE 4G phone. For example, the Samsung Fascinate does not have a SIM slot. Neither does the Verizon version of the iPhone 4.

If the Xperia Play has a SIM slot, it will probably be a "global" phone that can be used internationally. If unlocked, it will probably work with T-Mobile. That's a couple of ifs and a "probably."

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @ wirefly since it has a slot for SIM, can it be unlocked for other carriers like T-Mobile

  • @obig2 No, the SIM in the ThunderBolt is for LTE operation only. It will not work with T-Mobile or AT&T SIMs.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey when you said a class 4 micro sd card what exactly does the class mean?

  • @aaronmeister1 Each step in the "class" rating adds 1 megabyte per second (which equals 8 megabits per second) of data speed. A Class 1 card can do 8 Mbps of data, a Class 2 does 16 Mbps of data, and a Class 4 does 32 Mbps of data. That's fast enough to handle consumer-quality HD video.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • This is a 'steamin' review!!

  • can you root out the start screen?

  • U HAVE TO TURN OFF THE PHONE WEN ON SILENT TO HAVE THE STORM BE ON SILENT WHEN TURNIN ON...bt im waitin on the BIONIC!!! twice as better.

  • I don't see how there wouldn't be a charge for wifi mobile hotspot as my droid x costs $20 a month if I wanted that feature. Of course I rooted it though

  • @xopurexo2 At the moment, the WiFi hotspot capability is no extra charge on the ThunderBolt. That offer is good through May 15, 2011.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly so if you start service before 5/15/11 it will be free for the life of the plan or you will be charged for the service starting 5/15?

  • @bigmuse85 You should expect to pay for the service starting on May 16, regardless of when you started using the service. This is a nice free lunch while it lasts, but it won't last forever.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @xopurexo2 $20.00 a month on top of $30.00 a month for data charges? That's highway robbery, thanks Verizon.

  • ►Bob, I just came from one of Verizon's corporate stores and learned that as of 03/21/2011, Verizon only has 38 cities with 4G towers. So if you live just outside of any of these cities, or as you travel, your 4G Thunderbolt phone will not work properly. You really dropped the ball on your report here Bob. Nevertheless, I bought the phone, only to find out that despite Verizon said it would work where I live, which is outside the city limits, it does not work properly. Have 2 take it back!

  • @SolarStormWarning You're saying the phone "does not work properly" as in, you just don't have 4G reception? Do you honestly expect 4G coverage to be just as good as their 3G coverage already? Get real.

  • i think kick stands arnt that use full

  • Bob its me again i really need your help i need you to please please please please please please please please please please please please do a verizon smartphone shmackdown with iphone all droids and the thunderbolt it would be the best thing ever if you even sent me a message u r the best u got me into smartphones now i cant stop keep up the good work your biggest fan in the world

  • @yankeeboy1231 Thanks! We have lots of Schmackdowns with the iPhone 4, including the ThunderBolt. There's not a lot of interest in comparing the iPhone 4 to older Verizon phones, but you can be sure I will compare it to new phones as they come out.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • will we have video chat on this phone?

  • @pelvaanali Sure! You will need to download a video chat app such as Qik or Tango, both of which are free downloads from the Android Market.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • can anyone tell me a site which gives u all updates about the latest mobile phones???

  • OMG CAN YOU PLEASE STOP SAYING "STEAMING" MY GOSH!!!!

  • @LtFluffelz ....ssssssssssssssteamiiiiiinnngggggg.

  • dont worry bob....when the Thunderbolt Root exploit is released, you can gurantee there will be a mod to turn that intro off

    WICKED the first time

    AWESOME the second time

    sweet the third time

    cool the fourth time

..uh. yea...thunder....boom..can I txt my gf already?

  • Can you explain how the wireless connection to an HD tv works? I think it's called dlna or something like that.

  • @kstars101 I have not actually tried to connect using the DLNA feature, mostly since I do not own a TV that has DLNA. I would love to demonstrate that, however.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • so u can put sim cards in this phone

  • @MsHALLYWOOD96 if you watched the video he showed us where you put the sim card...

  • @phuphroo oh welp im lazy soo....

  • Pretty much all I saw in both the videos is software. I wanted to see how good the front facing camera you barely mentioned was. Or the rear camera. Not just benchmarks. Benchmarks mean nothing.

  • @At9ra I'm preparing a camera video that compares the camera quality of the ThunderBolt and the iPhone 4. That will be just for the main camera, however.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly

Well if you could test the quality of the front camera that'd be great..we all know HTC's track record when it comes to 5 and 8 megapixel camera quality.

Also, could you explain how simultaneous voice and data work over 3G? Maybe test it on video?

    Thanks.

  • Thumbs up for Thunderbolt!!!

  • This phone looks and sounds like an EVO 4G

  • "Steamin HOT...." "that's what he said"

  • Redundant. Why not try to cover some of the newer aspects of this Android phone? It is rather annoying to see reviews constantly spending time discussing HTC's 'Sense' UI, as it has been done countless times in the past. Focus on the new LTE network. Show the front-facing cam quality. Discuss any of the new features of this phone, but certainly do not waste time explaining details of an interface that has been introduced on dozens of devices a year ago.

  • Well, nothing new from these android phones.I'll stick too my rooted Evo

  • Why didn't you do a 4G speed test? The most important feature of this phone is its 4G connection to the carrier. In both reviews you jabber on and on about features that are mostly part of the Android OS, but you omit the critical information that sets this phone apart from the others. You have a great sounding voice, but try running a speed test.

  • any word on if u guys have sold out of your first shipment yet? i heard amazon sold out in a few hours

  • @estyffe It's my understanding that we have plenty of stock on the ThunderBolt. It's been flying off the shelves, however.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey Bob,

How was the battery life compared to other Android phones? Thanks!

  • @LucidityTruth If you scroll down and look at comments, you'll see that I've addressed the ThunderBolt's battery life a couple times. I also have a rather low-key video demonstrating the battery life. It's at:

    youtube.com/watch?v=fWr0R_yKPuw

How does it compare to other Android phones? I'd describe the ThunderBolt's battery life as "average."

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey thanks for the 2 part video review! It's exactly what I was looking for and also thanks for the benchmarks. I'm due for a new every two upgrade in 4 days :) I have been debating iphone, droidx, and this, but past few days I knew it was the Thunderbolt... this solidifies my choice! Thanks Again!! Carlin at Home :P

  • will the phone ship with a sim card or do i have to buy one? whats the deal with that?

  • @estyffe The ThunderBolt will ship with the SIM card, which should be pre-installed. Enjoy your phone!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey! Just wondering and double checking im getting the phone tomorrow! Will there be 3G mobile hotspot on this device?

  • @36soccerplayer Verizon is offering the WiFi hotspot for free until May 15, which is fantastic. The ThunderBolt is better than a 3G hotspot... if you get solid 4G reception, it will distribute data at 4G speeds using WiFi!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly In areas such as nebraska or kansas will we receive 3g mobile hotspot? thanks.

  • @ClipTreats We think the DROID Bionic will be a real screamer, but we don't expect to see one for at least a couple more weeks. As soon as we can, we will make the ThunderBolt vs. Bionic video.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly

bionic is gimed by the locked bootloader... people getting the bionic will be waiting forever for gingerbread while the thunderbolt will get the mod community support and will get the best version of android.... cyanogenmod

  • hey bob, i just ordered my thunderbolt from wirefly and was just wondering if u could tell me how much stock your expecting, just wondering when the thing will ship. thx

  • @estyffe Interesting question, but I'm w-a-y out of the product chain. Let me see if I can dig up some information tomorrow (Thursday, March 17).

Maybe we should call that TB Day...

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @wirefly thx bob

  • Cause yours are always the best

  • Hi bob can you please make one more htc thunderbolt video before a bunch of them start showing up on Internet and youtube because these will be hard to find it can be on anything.... Maybe a review part 3!!!

  • Hey Bob I liked you guys on facebook and was wondering how to gain access to the $25 coupon.

  • @reidac1 Sorry for the confusion... I was just told that the coupon code won't show until tomorrow, March 17. If you "like" us on Facebook, you will have access to the code. Look again at Facebook tomorrow after 9AM (Eastern time) for the link to the coupon code.

Really... sorry I jumped the gun on this one.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hi bob

i was wondering if i can buy this from europe. or if i can buy it from wirefly and it being shiped to europe thank you

  • @T3DDY1997 Wirefly ships only to the US, so we will not ship to Europe. If you want to get one through Wirefly, you will need to have it shipped to a US address. Someone at that address will have to ship it to you, but you're on your own at that point.

    Thanks for asking, though!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @ClipTreats Definitely some funny transcribe goofs, but I like the line about "classics would be wonderful." I also like the "cake" stand on the ThunderBolt.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Hey Bob, Is the TB only available at $200 for preorder or will it remain there for new customers post launch?

    Thanks

  • @acro723 I believe that the ThunderBolt will remain at no more than $199.99 on Wirefly. Even better, if you go to Wirefly's Facebook page and "like" us, you get access to a $25 coupon code that you can use for the ThunderBolt. Woo hoo!

    Bob at Wirefly

  • Is Rock Band preloaded on the device?

  • @NotAnotherYT I don't think so... maybe someone else knows who has received a final production unit.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • @afroninja929 thank you soooooooooooooo much cant wait

  • hmmm, should i upgrade from my moto droid to this or wait?

  • Unlimited data is the same as 3g and owners of the thunderbolt will have the Hotspot feature free until May 15th, after that it will be an extra $20 if you want it.

  • Have you gotten a chance to play with the Droid Bionic yet? I'd like to see how they compare. I'm leaning towards the Bionic, as it has the dual core processor and higher resolution, 16x9 screen, however I prefer Sense to Motoblur, although I have a feeling in both cases I'd end up using a different launcher.

  • @Kev50027 No, we haven't gotten a DROID Bionic yet... hoping to get one soon, though.

    Wirefly

  • IT RELEASES THE 17th!!!!!!!!

  • @ClipTreats The HTC ThunderBolt is an Android phone, meaning that it runs the Android operating system. However, it is not branded with the "DROID" name. DROID is trademarked by Verizon and is used for a series of phones by both Motorola and HTC. And the HTC ThunderBolt is not one of those "DROID" phones.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • im due for an upgrade for verizon in may and after watching reviews of the thunderbolt and the droid bionic, im going to have to make a tough decision.

  • Overall an excellent 2 part review, but since this is Verizon's first phone with 4G(ish) service and a web cam on it, it would have been nice if you could have set up a test video chat call so folks could see how well that would work with current Android Apps. Side note: HATE how you have remove the back to get at the microSD card... makes it much harder if you download pics using an adapter and card slot on your computer.

  • Does a full version of Slingplayer come on the TB? Thanks

  • @wirefly i honestly love all of your reviews

  • @latios1500 Thanks!

    Wirefly

  • @ wirefly do you know if the 4g service will cost more than already existing data plans

  • @xXSCREAMOFORLIFEXx Sorry, I don't know that yet. We may know more about the plan costs tomorrow (Tuesday, March 15) and will make the plan costs known just as soon as we can.

    Bob at Wirefly

  • ThunderBolt News Flash: Tonight, Wirefly will begin taking pre-orders for the HTC ThunderBolt and begins shipping on March 17, 2011. Check with us soon for a special Wirefly price.

    Wirefly

  • @wirefly Price?

  • @seamuszolly All we can say is that we will have a special Wirefly price. You'll be able to check in a few hours and see. We'd love to be more specific but just can't be at this time.

    Wirefly
