The Phantom wears a wig to cover the deformities on his head as well as the mask for his face. It's not just in this movie, it's in all productions. In the 25th anniversary live DVD, when Erik and Christine first go down to his lair, he takes off his hat and pats down his wig, although you don't know it's a wig at that point. Not sure when that happens in this film.

The Phantoms deformity sucks in the movie-they did it wrong. If you watch the song after in the movie the sun-burned look is gone and its just messy. That is the main flaw of the movie. But its still amazing :) -333

Actually I spoke to ex-Phantom Peter Karrie once and he said that Andrew Lloyd Webber kept making him have his make up redone because it wasn't ugly enough! Personally, in my humble opinion, is that this version of the phantom is too "sexy." Erik (the phantom) is supposed to be this monster cursed with a horrifying deformity to his face, yet has the voice of an angel. Here he's just a sexy man in a mask whose okay at best, when it comes to singing.

Check out the 25th Anniversary from the Royal Albert Hall recently. Its the musical in its original production minus the original cast but still just as amazing. The movie is good and all but the stage is where it all started.
A lot of the scenes in this movie NEVER happened in the original staged version london did over 20 years ago. They also changed a lot of the lyrics and dialogue. IMO the stage version is better than the movie.

i dont agree w/ Christine's choice in men bc the phantom, like MikalaS18 mentioned, he has been there from the beginning. i mean yeah Raoul is ok but i just feel sooooo sad for the phantom throughout the movie. i mean hey i dont blame him, id kill Raoul too :P jk but seriously the end of this movie always makes me cry or get really sad bc phantom is left alone and he really loved Christine.

Check out the 25th Anniversary from the Royal Albert Hall recently. Its the musical in its original production minus the original cast but still just as amazing. The movie is good and all but the stage is where it all started.

A lot of the scenes in this movie NEVER happened in the original staged version london did over 20 years ago. They also changed a lot of the lyrics and dialogue. IMO the stage version is better than the movie.

@Irongirl18 Not true. I think the movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar was better than the stage version. Same with Rent, movie was better than stage version only because it was almost ALL original stage actors. But still some movies suck more than the stage version vice versa.

This is probably the only scene where I think Gerard really shines. I don't care for him in any other scene, but this is where he can actually use his sexual appeal. Well done.

You know... I always thought that it was an extreme design flaw to make it so that cutting ONE piece of rope causes a CHANDALIER to fall onto the audience... I mean... Couldn't they have made it so one rope being cute didn't smash it into the ground... And burn the WOODEN opera house down XD
And I just noticed that Christine didn't react when Erik's face was shown... Hmmm...

chain that was held in with at that control point with
all the levers that you saw Erik at before. Erik rigged it
so when he cut the rope it would cause a chain reaction
and built up tension would break the panel releasing the
chains.
