Para sa akin lang naman.. composing a song and interpreting it is an art. If it is an art there are no hard and fast rules of doing it. What matters is that the artists have 'moved' us. Parang painting, abstract man o hindi, ang mahalaga ay nakakapaggawa tayo ng mga "life realizations" na humuhubog sa ating mga pananaw at pagkatao...
i agree but ito kasi ang ating national wika. we should be apt of the right construction. but no contest, i love the song. i even sing it while i ride in a jeepney. ;-)
Too bad... there's a mistake in the lyric with this line: "Maaabot mo din ang pangarap mo". It is supposedly "Maaabot mo RIN ang pangarap mo" because the word preceded by 'din' ends with a vowel which is 'mo'. So the right word to use is 'rin'. The same ruling goes to 'doon', roon', raw', and 'daw' when constructing Filipino sentences. The song still one of the nicest songs i have heard but i got irritated with the little mistake. Don't worry, i love the song. I love singing it. ;-)

Dayo thus far is the only movie that I have watched among the MMFF entries; and I was not dissappointed! Unfortunately it did not make good in the box office... I still hope tho that many Filipino artist will still continue to make good (makabuluhan)movies/animations even if the pay-off is not that juicy. Lea Salonga did best in this movie to support Filipino artistry like she always does at a quarter or less than what she might receive in her performances/appearances abroad...
I really love Lea sings....specially on movie theme songs (animations..Aladdin, Mulan) hope we can hear more soon.....congrats also to the people behind "DAYO". Continue making us proud to be Filipino....kudos to Ms. Lea Salonga
They're both good in their own styles and genres. No doubt bout it. Personally though, I prefer Lea's. Regine's voice hasn't change at all in the past 20 years. I don't get 'wowed' by her anymore. Even her low notes seem high. Parang volume na lang ang nag-iiba. Let's try her 'Low Key' though. Pero magaling talaga si Regine kung taas ng boses, chest voice, biritan ang usapan. Isama mo pa si Jonalyn (wala lang wow factor), Sheryn, and all biriteras.

lea salonga's voice is far better if not the best from other singers. The clarity of tones is the best asset of her voice, she's not nasal when she sings so you can hear the lyrics clearly. I wont compare her with Regine because there's really no point of comparison in terms of talent, achievements and most of all "intelligence".

You can say whatever you want about Lea but there's no way of stopping her in singing. Alam kong mahal niya ang pagkanta. Actually, maganda nga't maraming comments dito. Hindi siya close-minded. Nakakalungkot lang at mayroong ilang tao na sadyang napaka judgmental... Alam ni Lea kung ano assets niya at mina maximize niya 'yon. Aminado naman siya na hindi niya linya ang pagbirit eh.
hay naku.... both have different syles... lea and regine ... but quality-wise, lea is far better... we consider clarity and range.... colour... not because you can reach for the high notes ur better... dapat hindi puro "sigaw" (not to confuse with chest voice).
Being great does not necessarily depend on how many concerts he has staged or albums he has produced. I have a neighbor who sings well and nobody knows her, but I think she can give Lea and Regine a run for their voices. If you're great, you're great even if you're not famous.
I remember buying the King And I cast recording with Julie Andrews and Lea Salonga. My grandmother sat on the sofa listening to our hi-fi system intently to the phrasing of Lea in My Lord and Master. After the song, my grandmother stood up and climbed up the stairs to retire. She said while going up the stairs, "Hindi tayo napahiya kay Lea. She can sing side by side with Julie Andrews." My lord and master from the King and I was really a very difficult song. But Lea really delivered it so well! YOu should also listen to THIS IS WHAT I DREAMED from the same musical and gosh! Lea's voice was really soaring high and also the song WE KISS IN A SHADOW where she sang a duet with no less than Peabo Bryson.
Please do watch Lea's version of TOO MUCH FOR ONE HEART from her broadway themed manila concert. It was a song from Ms. Saigon that did not make a cut in the musical but that song was really splendid notwithstanding Lea's perfect delivery of emotions and vocal quality.
You cannot compare an apple with an orange. Lea should be compared with Julie Andrews or Bernadette Peters and other Broadway stars. Regine should be compared with Sarah Geronimo at worst, or Mariah Carey at best, or any non-Broadway figure.

Just seen "Dayo" on the big screen, got invited to the premiere. All I can say is it's a must watch for families, for the kids, and the kids-at-heart. Not giving away details of the film, but Lea's segment in the film is really something, sends chills through your body. And yes, Lea Salonga is always the better singer. Sino si Regine? Si Sarah? Si Charice? Are yor referring to Lea's alalays?

Hi joseph252007, in fairness to all the Filipinas who played Kim, there were many who were good. Joanna was a great Kim (my friend, Rodel, worked with her in Sydney cast has high praises). IMO, however, some of them who played the role lost their voices (e.g., one developed an annoying vibratto, became raspy,etc.). Lea was gifted that she didn't lose her voice. In fact, her voice has fully blossomed (listen to her version Of ALL THE THINGS... Wow)!

Para sa akin lang naman.. composing a song and interpreting it is an art. If it is an art there are no hard and fast rules of doing it. What matters is that the artists have 'moved' us. Parang painting, abstract man o hindi, ang mahalaga ay nakakapaggawa tayo ng mga "life realizations" na humuhubog sa ating mga pananaw at pagkatao...

Too bad... there's a mistake in the lyric with this line: "Maaabot mo din ang pangarap mo". It is supposedly "Maaabot mo RIN ang pangarap mo" because the word preceded by 'din' ends with a vowel which is 'mo'. So the right word to use is 'rin'. The same ruling goes to 'doon', roon', raw', and 'daw' when constructing Filipino sentences. The song still one of the nicest songs i have heard but i got irritated with the little mistake. Don't worry, i love the song. I love singing it. ;-)

I was very glad to hear that we, Filipinos, have started to embark on the magical world of animation. Though I have not yet seen this movie, I believe that the movie deserves a round of applause for having the courage to enliven the Philippine animation industry. Good job!

can we not just be proud of our talents instead of putting one down just to uplift the other. they are both good artists, different genre. lea can't birit, regine can but regine can't do broadway. no one is better than the other, both have incredible talents and are hard acts to follow

Dayo thus far is the only movie that I have watched among the MMFF entries; and I was not dissappointed! Unfortunately it did not make good in the box office... I still hope tho that many Filipino artist will still continue to make good (makabuluhan)movies/animations even if the pay-off is not that juicy. Lea Salonga did best in this movie to support Filipino artistry like she always does at a quarter or less than what she might receive in her performances/appearances abroad...

They're both good in their own styles and genres. No doubt bout it. Personally though, I prefer Lea's. Regine's voice hasn't change at all in the past 20 years. I don't get 'wowed' by her anymore. Even her low notes seem high. Parang volume na lang ang nag-iiba. Let's try her 'Low Key' though. Pero magaling talaga si Regine kung taas ng boses, chest voice, biritan ang usapan. Isama mo pa si Jonalyn (wala lang wow factor), Sheryn, and all biriteras.

Kaya ba nung dalawang un ang ginagawa ni Lea? I mean,Lea can do Broadway,acting and kumanta ng mga ganyang kanta...can the others can? I mean this is a national talent. lea salonga's voice is far better if not the best from other singers. The clarity of tones is the best asset of her voice, she's not nasal when she sings so you can hear the lyrics clearly. I wont compare her with Regine because there's really no point of comparison in terms of talent, achievements and most of all "intelligence".

You can say whatever you want about Lea but there's no way of stopping her in singing. Alam kong mahal niya ang pagkanta. Actually, maganda nga't maraming comments dito. Hindi siya close-minded. Nakakalungkot lang at mayroong ilang tao na sadyang napaka judgmental... Alam ni Lea kung ano assets niya at mina maximize niya 'yon. Aminado naman siya na hindi niya linya ang pagbirit eh.

hay naku.... both have different syles... lea and regine ... but quality-wise, lea is far better... we consider clarity and range.... colour... not because you can reach for the high notes ur better... dapat hindi puro "sigaw" (not to confuse with chest voice).

Being great does not necessarily depend on how many concerts he has staged or albums he has produced. I have a neighbor who sings well and nobody knows her, but I think she can give Lea and Regine a run for their voices. If you're great, you're great even if you're not famous.

I remember buying the King And I cast recording with Julie Andrews and Lea Salonga. My grandmother sat on the sofa listening to our hi-fi system intently to the phrasing of Lea in My Lord and Master. After the song, my grandmother stood up and climbed up the stairs to retire. She said while going up the stairs, "Hindi tayo napahiya kay Lea. She can sing side by side with Julie Andrews." And I quote Maestra Mercedes Matias-Santiago, the country's leading interpreter of Lucia di Lammermoor.

My lord and master from the King and I was really a very difficult song. But Lea really delivered it so well! YOu should also listen to THIS IS WHAT I DREAMED from the same musical and gosh! Lea's voice was really soaring high and also the song WE KISS IN A SHADOW where she sang a duet with no less than Peabo Bryson.

Please do watch Lea's version of TOO MUCH FOR ONE HEART from her broadway themed manila concert. It was a song from Ms. Saigon that did not make a cut in the musical but that song was really splendid notwithstanding Lea's perfect delivery of emotions and vocal quality.

You cannot compare an apple with an orange. Lea should be compared with Julie Andrews or Bernadette Peters and other Broadway stars. Regine should be compared with Sarah Geronimo at worst, or Mariah Carey at best, or any non-Broadway figure.

Just seen "Dayo" on the big screen, got invited to the premiere. All I can say is it's a must watch for families, for the kids, and the kids-at-heart. Not giving away details of the film, but Lea's segment in the film is really something, sends chills through your body. And yes, Lea Salonga is always the better singer. Sino si Regine? Si Sarah? Si Charice? Are yor referring to Lea's alalays?

hehehe... it is funny that people here are fighting over who is the better singer. some say, singers who can reach high notes are better singers but for me, it is not a matter of how high you can reach. it is on how you can express or deliver the emotion of the song you are singing to your audience. and only a few singers can do this. to name a few, Lea Salonga, Barbra Streisand, and Michael Crawford can effortlessly deliver the emotions of the songs they are singing.

..na napaka unfair considering that Lea is an awardee of Sir Laurence Olivier, Drama Desk , Outer Critric Circle in London and the prestigious Tony award in Broadway.And everytime na si Lea ang nasa Broadway laging inaabangan ang performances nya lalo na yung last time where she played Fantine sa Les Miz. She replaced there a horrible performer na nanggaling sa Rent musical i forgot her name.

Hi joseph252007, in fairness to all the Filipinas who played Kim, there were many who were good. Joanna was a great Kim (my friend, Rodel, worked with her in Sydney cast has high praises). IMO, however, some of them who played the role lost their voices (e.g., one developed an annoying vibratto, became raspy,etc.). Lea was gifted that she didn't lose her voice. In fact, her voice has fully blossomed (listen to her version Of ALL THE THINGS... Wow)!
