i had a 96 impala a while back. after they discontinued rear wheel drive, that muscle car feeling was gone. hopefully chevy gets it together and bring back all those bad-ass cars again. chrysler has been killing chevy for a long time with that charger and the 300. they need make the impala with lots of balls and good lookin. that will make me buy one.
They need a Chevy Impala RWD to compete against the Dodge Charger's, and Chrysler 300's.
-3.9L V6 LS/LT RWD 233 HP,
-5.3L V8 LTZ RWD 303 HP,
-SS model is basically a 4 door Camaro ZL1 with the 6.2L V8 580 HP engine.
Now that would've probably got them a whole lot of sales!!! I would've bought the Silver 5.3L V8 LTZ RWD with the optional manual trans. DAMMIT GM use your fucking head! The Impala is a suppose to be Chevy's 4 door Muscle car. I don't want a Camaro!!
Finally. Jesus. The current one has been on sale since what,1992? Feels like it anyways. I actually thought GM completely forgot about the Impala. Too busy saving itself from total collapse, then the Camaro and now revamping the entire lineup, I wondered if some head guy over in Detroit was like "What? Impala? We still make that thing?"
I love impalas, hopefully they will bring it back with RWD and not FWD, that is the only reason I haven't bought a new impala yet, and if it doesn't have a v8, it better have a powerful V6 or else I am definitely buying a ford. I would love for GM to bring back the g8, G8 GT and GXP in impala forms, got your base, mid entry and ss, just like the old days when people could customize their impalas:)

@supervette2000 Did you mean the new XTS? The XTS is the replacement for the STS and DTS. According to Cadillac, there will be a larger rear-wheel drive 'Flagship' (when, I've forgotten). But I read somewhere that the G8 would become the next Impala and this new car the XTS is a fresh design all around. BTW, the Lucerne is going bye, bye and the Lacrosse will be the largest car that Buick will offer. Cadillac should've never terminated the XLR, I don't know which genius at GM decided that.
@bhigdaddymark ur right. it was the xts. i think they just scrapped the g8. the impala will be on the epsilon 2 platform, which is the same platform that will be used as the cadillac xts. that makes me think they will look very similar. the xts looks like a kind of stretched lacrosse. about the xlr, i didn't really like it. it was just an overpriced corvette in my opinion and wasn't as agile. plus, it didn't have big selling numbers for the class it was in

Impala will get a treatment as a '14 model. The RWD -- I don't know if GM will go there; it would have to have the drivetrain of that of the Camaro and Cadillac CTS. Now, if the vehicle has rear-wheel drive, it should have an AWD option; and GM doesn't have many AWD cars -- just the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac CTS. RWD is great with power, but fuel efficiency is a different story, but it's gotten a lot better.
Hope it doesn't look like the Camaro. If they screw up and make a four door Camero, I'm selling mine right then. Lol! That's like making a four door Corvette.

@k2dogg86 Muscle cars are like this now. They're just simply heavy. The GT500 weighs 3,900 lbs. The Camaro SS weighs 3,800 lbs. The Dodge Challanger SRT8 (new 470 hp) weighs over 4,000. Camaro is basically doing the best right now out of all muscle cars, weight wise. But yes they have gotten heavy since the 60s where they'd weight like 3,300 lbs weight of Corvette Zr1 supercar. They worry more about looks now for some reason. But I hear there's gonna be a light muscle car soon :)
